The nature of Zakelj's injury is unclear, as is when he exactly picked up the injury. However, by being placed on IR without a designation to return, the 2022 sixth-rounder will be forced to miss the entire upcoming season unless he reached an injury settlement with San Francisco.

Zakelj went to the 49ers' injured reserve list with ruptured biceps just after the middle of last season, but he's now evidently healthy enough for football activities again. He'll compete for a depth role on the interior of the offensive line this year.
