  • Saints' Monty Rice: Finds work with New Orleans

    The Saints claimed Rice off waivers Wednesday. Rice was waived by the Titans on Tuesday, and it didn't take him long to land in a new spot. New Orleans may have signed Rice as insurance behind Pete Werner, who missed Week 13 with an oblique injury, though Werner returned to practice in a limited fashion Wednesday. Rice played in 12 games for Tennessee before being let go, and he totaled 26 tackles (14 solo) over 82 defensive snaps.

Rice began the season on the reserve/PUP list as he tended to an Achilles injury, but it now appears he could play again as soon as Week 5 at the Commanders. With Zach Cunningham (elbow) out, Rice could be in for a significant role if Sunday's game is indeed his first back.

    Rice is dealing with an Achilles injury during mandatory minicamp, Paul Kuharsky of PaulKuharsky.com reports. Rice missed the final six games of his rookie campaign -- including the Titans' playoff loss to the Bengals -- due to what was initially diagnosed as an ankle injury. However, Kuharsky relays that the 2021 third-round pick is actually dealing with an Achilles injury, which may put his status for the start of the 2022 campaign in jeopardy.
