• 49ers' Nick Martin: Close to returning to practice

  Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Martin's (hamstring) status will be evaluated "in these next couple of days," Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Martin opened the regular season on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury that he sustained during training camp in August. Shanahan said Martin is "getting close" to returning to practice, and if he's cleared for field work this week, his participation level will shed light on whether he'll play in Week 6 against the Commanders on Monday, Oct. 19. The 2025 third-rounder logged 11 tackles (eight solo) and one fumble recovery across seven regular-season games during his rookie campaign, which ended on injured reserve due to a concussion.

  The 49ers placed Martin (hamstring) on injured reserve Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Martin had been dealing with a hamstring injury recently that will now force him to miss the start of the regular season unless he works out an injury settlement with the team. Otherwise, the 23-year-old will be sidelined for at least four games before he's eligible to be designated to return.

  Martin (stinger) was a full participant in Saturday's practice, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Martin suffered a stinger during Thursday's preseason opener against the Titans. The linebacker totaled five tackles (three solo) in the contest and appears to have recovered from the issue quickly. With such a quick injury turnaround, Martin is likely set to play in next Thursday's preseason contest against the Chargers.
