Until Allen finds meaningful playing time, Fantasy managers shouldn't bother adding him to rosters.

Lions' Kyle Allen: Wins backup job in Detroit
Rotowire
Allen is in line to begin the 2025 regular season as the Lions' second quarterback, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Allen was in a battle with Hendon Hooker for the number two slot at quarterback behind Jared Goff in Detroit, and Allen ultimately won out when Hooker was cut Monday. In Allen's last regular-season start back in 2022 with Houston, he completed 20 of 39 pass attempts for 201 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, adding two rushes for one yard.

Lions' Kyle Allen: Perfect in preseason finale
Rotowire
Allen completed all five of his passes for 66 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 26-7 preseason loss to the Texans.
The 29-year-old QB may have locked up the No. 2 job for the Lions with this performance. Allen got the start and while he took a sack to end Detroit's first possession, he was laser-focused on the second, ending the drive with a 33-yard TD pass to Isaac TeSlaa. Hendon Hooker, meanwhile, went 6-for-11 for 70 yards and an INT after taking over from Allen. Jared Goff is locked into the starting role for the Lions, but Allen appears to be the next man up should anything happen to him.

Lions' Kyle Allen: Tosses two TDs in preseason loss
Rotowire
Allen completed 14 of 17 pass attempts for 124 yards and two touchdowns during Saturday's 24-17 preseason loss to the Dolphins.
Allen has now impressed in back-to-back preseason appearances, combining for 244 passing yards and four touchdowns in those contests, without an interception. While Allen has outplayed fellow reserve quarterback Hendon Hooker thus far throughout the preseason, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the backup competition behind Jared Goff remains open. Lions coach Dan Campbell said Hooker may get the start during Detroit's preseason finale against the Texans next Saturday, but both signal-callers figure to get substantial reps.

Lions' Kyle Allen: Perfect passer rating Friday
Rotowire
Allen completed seven of eight pass attempts for 120 yards and two touchdowns while taking two carries for 10 yards in Friday's preseason tilt in Atlanta.
Allen entered the contest with a little over five minutes left in the first half and proceeded to orchestrate three consecutive scoring drives. two of which resulted in touchdowns. Fellow backup Hendon Hooker started Friday's exhibition and produced little offensively while turning the ball over twice. Both signal-callers are vying to serve as Jared Goff's primary backup this upcoming season, with Allen having the clear early advantage based on performance and experience.

Lions' Kyle Allen: Joins Detroit's QB room
Rotowire
Allen agreed to terms with the Lions on Thursday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Allen spent the 2024 season with Pittsburgh and operated as their emergency quarterback for most of the campaign. He'll now join the Lions' quarterback room as an experienced backup, and he will likely compete with Hendon Hooker for the No. 2 job to Jared Goff.

Steelers' Kyle Allen: Operates as third wheel
Rotowire
Allen appeared in one regular-season game for the Steelers in 2024, completing his only pass attempt for 19 yards.
Allen saw little action behind Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. The team's quarterback situation for 2025 is up in the air, but Allen is set to become an unrestricted free agent and it's unclear what the chances are that he will be brought back.

Steelers' Kyle Allen: Emergency QB again for Week 15
Rotowire
Allen (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Eagles.
Allen will serve as the Steelers' emergency quarterback for the second game in a row. His only chance to play will come only if both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are forced to exit due to injury.

Bills' Kyle Allen: Bad development for positioning
Rotowire
The Bills signed veteran quarterback Mitch Trubisky to a two-year deal on Wednesday, presumably to serve as Josh Allen's top backup.
Kyle Allen played the backup role for Josh Allen in 2023, but with the latter mostly healthy that yielded only spot mop-up duties, as the former never even attempted a pass. Kyle Allen likely won't be doing that for the Bills in 2024 following the Trubisky signing, as Trubisky comes with a better resume and has a first-round label from 2017. Plus, Trubisky is better suited to serve as at least a partial replica of Josh Allen, as both have strong arms, can be tough to tackle and have running ability. There may no longer be room for Kyle Allen on the roster.

Bills' Kyle Allen: Limited action in seven games
Rotowire
Allen finished the 2023 regular season with seven appearances, most of it coming in mop-up duty, and zero starts.
Mop-up duty may be selling Allen's role a bit strong, as he never attempted a pass and rushed for minus-13 yards. Given the amount of time that teammate Josh Allen has to play the role of Superman and his propensity for running the ball so frequently, it's a bit of a surprise that Kyle Allen wasn't needed for at least 1-to-2 starts. We'll see if the Bills bring him back for the No. 2 role again next season, where he'd potentially be given the keys to a fantasy luxury vehicle if his teammate were to miss any time. At the very least, it would save some extra tailoring work for the team equipment manager again.

Bills' Kyle Allen: Mops up in Week 15
Rotowire
Allen played Buffalo's final seven snaps on offense in Sunday's 31-10 win over the Cowboys, attempting no passes and kneeling down twice for minus-two yards.
Allen checked into the game with 10:37 remaining in the fourth quarter, when Buffalo held a commanding 31-3 lead. The Bills didn't ask Allen to do anything more than to keep the clock moving, as the team ran the ball on all seven of his plays. Allen has yet to attempt a pass this season despite coming off the bench on six occasions this season, usually in garbage-time scenarios.

Bills' Kyle Allen: Sees action in Week 3
Rotowire
Allen saw action for the second straight week, playing 11 snaps in Buffalo's 37-3 win over Washington in Week 3. He did not attempt a pass and rushed twice for minus-2 yards.
The score indicates exactly why Allen was in there -- for the second game in a row the Bills blew out their opponent and used the fourth quarter to keep franchise quarterback Josh Allen in one piece. What's not shown in the stats is that Kyle Allen actually led the Bills to their final touchdown drive, mostly by handing the ball off to his teammates and letting them continue to run over the Washington D. Kyle Allen does have value if Josh were ever to miss a few games, given the firepower the team has on offense.

Bills' Kyle Allen: Shines in second preseason game
Rotowire
Allen completed 12 of 15 passes for 112 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers.
Allen was outplayed by his main competition for the backup quarterback job, Matt Barkley, in the first preseason game, but Barkley was picked off three times Saturday and also suffered an elbow injury. As such, Allen appears to have quickly flipped the script and stands as the favorite to open the season as Josh Allen's top understudy.

Texans' Kyle Allen: Plummets to third on depth chart
Rotowire
Allen (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
Allen will go from starting the Texans' past two games to falling all the way to third on the depth chart this week, as Davis Mills will get the nod under center while practice-squad call-up Jeff Driskel serves as his backup. During his two-game run in the starting lineup, Allen completed 46 of 78 pass attempts for two touchdowns and four interceptions while also losing a fumble as the Texans suffered double-digit losses to the Dolphins and Browns.

Texans' Kyle Allen: Returns to backup role
Rotowire
Allen is set to return to a backup role for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, after head coach Lovie Smith said Wednesday that Davis Mills will reclaim starting quarterback duties for the Texans, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
After Mills led the Texans to 1-8-1 record through the team's first 10 games, he was benched ahead of Week 12 in favor of Allen. The change at quarterback didn't yield desirable results, as Allen completed 46 of 78 pass attempts for 416 yards, with two touchdowns and four picks during his two-week stint as starter, which featured double-digit losses to the Dolphins and Browns. With Smith handing the offense back over to Mills, Allen seems unlikely to see extended action this season unless the former succumbs to an injury.

Texans' Kyle Allen: Looks set for Week 12 start
Rotowire
Allen will take all the first-team quarterback reps Wednesday and appears on track to start Sunday's game in Miami, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, head coach Lovie Smith declined to name a Week 12 starter during his press conference Wednesday, but Allen looks poised to unseat the struggling Davis Mills, who has guided the Texans to a 1-8-1 record through 10 games. Assuming Allen is confirmed as the Texans' new starter by week's end, he could be worthy of consideration as a low-end option in leagues that start two quarterbacks or have a superflex spot. In 21 career games with Washington and Carolina, Allen has completed 63.1 percent of his throws for 6.9 yards per attempt and a 24:17 TD:INT.

Texans' Kyle Allen: Set to sign with Texans
Rotowire
Allen agreed Wednesday with the Texans on a one-year deal, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
According to Jhabvala, Allen's deal is for $2.5 million and includes $2.25 million fully guaranteed. The 26-year-old -- who spent the last two seasons with Washington -- will provide Houston with added quarterback depth behind Davis Mills, the team's projected starter for 2022 with Deshaun Watson expected to be traded this offseason.

Commanders' Kyle Allen: Won't be tendered by Washington
Rotowire
Allen isn't in line to receive a contract tender from the Commanders, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Allen earned a roster spot as Washington's backup quarterback in 2021, but he made just two appearances and completed 12 of 19 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown. He'll be free to sign with any other team starting next week after the Commanders acquired Carson Wentz from the Colts on Wednesday.

Football Team's Kyle Allen: Barely plays in 2021
Rotowire
Allen made two appearances during the 2021 campaign, completing 12 of 19 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown for Washington.
Allen came back from last year's broken leg and earned a spot on the team as the No. 3 quarterback, then quickly rose to No. 2 on the depth chart after Ryan Fitzpatrick injured his hip Week 1 and didn't return for the rest of the season. No matter, Allen barely ended up playing, with Taylor Heinicke enjoying a healthy season under center, though his performance was less than stellar, especially toward the end. Allen is scheduled for restricted free agency in the offseason, and presumably will be viewed as a backup whether he stays in Washington or ends up elsewhere. Heinicke, meanwhile, is signed through 2022.

Football Team's Kyle Allen: Washington-Eagles moved to Tuesday
Rotowire
Allen (illness) and Washington will no longer play the Eagles on Sunday, after the NFL officially rescheduled the matchup between the two teams for Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
Due to ongoing COVID-19-related issues within Washington's organization, the NFL is hopeful that by delaying the game two days, the Football Team will restore enough players from the reserve/COVID-19 list to alleviate depth concerns on the roster. Even with the delay, top quarterback Taylor Heinicke (illness), who was placed on the list Friday after testing positive for the virus, will face an uphill battle to clear the necessary protocols ahead of Tuesday's game. Allen, meanwhile, should stand a better chance of being ready for Tuesday, after he was placed on the list Wednesday following his positive COVID-19 test. However, if neither Allen nor Heinicke are available to play, Washington will likely turn to the newly-signed Garrett Gilbert or one of its two quarterbacks on the practice squad (Kyle Shurmur and Jordan Ta'amu) to make the Week 15 start.

Football Team's Kyle Allen: Replaces injured starter
Rotowire
Allen completed four of nine passes for 53 yards against Dallas on Sunday.
Allen stepped in after starter Taylor Heinicke left the game with a knee injury in the fourth quarter. Allen lacks Heinicke's athleticism and big-play ability in general, so he'd likely be a downgrade from his teammate in both a football and fantasy sense. However, Allen is the next man up if Heinicke can't play against Philadelphia in Week 15.
