Grissom began his minor-league rehab assignment with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday, going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in his only contest with the team. The 25-year-old has been on the 10-day injured list since June 8 while recovering from a left oblique strain, but he appears to be on track to return to the major-league roster in the near future.

Grissom just went on the 10-day injured list one week ago with a left oblique strain, so it's been a quick turnaround for the 25-year-old. He's eligible for activation Monday, and Grissom could be ready to rejoin the Angels' active roster for their road trip which begins Monday in Arizona.

Grissom (oblique) has been taking light swings and participating in light baseball activities, per MLB.com.
Grissom hasn't played since June 5, and he landed on the IL with a left oblique strain June 8. Given the nature of his injury, it's a promising sign that he's now able to swing a bat, albeit not at full capacity. It's not yet clear how long Grissom will be sidelined, though it seems likely that he'll need more than a minimum stay on the injured list.

Grissom went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, an additional RBI and two total runs scored in Wednesday's 11-4 win over the Rockies.
Grissom has hit safely in seven straight games and has an extra-base hit in five of those contests. The second baseman batted .190 and slugged .310 in May, but he's showing more signs of life at the plate early in June. Overall, he's hitting .246 with a .735 OPS, four homers, 27 RBI, 14 runs scored, 10 doubles and no stolen bases over 154 plate appearances this season.

Grissom went 3-for-5 with a home run and six RBI in Tuesday's 10-6 win over the Tigers.
The 25-year-old infielder got the Angels on the board with a two-run single in the third inning before launching his first career grand slam off Will Vest in the eighth to put his team in the lead for good. Grissom snapped a 2-for-28 skid with the big performance, and since joining the big-league roster in mid-April he's slashing .233/.308/.379 with three homers, eight runs and 19 RBI in 32 games while seeing action at first base, second base and third base. Advanced stats paint a rosier picture, however -- his 91.0 mph average exit velocity and 47.9 percent hard-hit rate are comparable to Mike Trout's.

Zach Neto, who batted leadoff in each of the Angels' first 43 games this season, has been slumping and will bat sixth Wednesday. Grissom hit his second home run of the season in Tuesday's loss to Cleveland and sports a .922 OPS over his last five contests. The 25-year-old infielder drove a Franco Aleman fastball 406 feet the other way to right-center field in the eighth inning for the game's final bit of offense. It was Grissom's second homer of the season, and while he's also seen occasional action at first base and third base, he's emerged as the primary second baseman for the Halos since joining the big-league roster a month ago. Over his last 16 contests, Grissom is slashing .278/.310/.500 with six doubles, two long balls, four runs and nine RBI.

Angels' Vaughn Grissom: Moving toward everyday role
Grissom will start at second base and bat third in Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
The 25-year-old will occupy a prominent spot in the order for the series finale while the White Sox send lefty Noah Schultz to the hill. While Grissom has been a regular presence in the lineup against lefties since being activated from the injured list April 11, he's starting to gain some traction in the lineup against right-handed pitching, too. Grissom has started at second base over Adam Frazier in three of the Angels' last four matchups with righties and is holding down a .280/.356/.420 slash line with a 7:4 BB:K over 59 plate appearances on the season. Grissom hasn't yet produced much in the way of counting statistics with one home run, zero steals, seven RBI and six runs in 17 games, but the excellent approach he's displayed at the plate could lead to better production in a near-everyday role.

The 25-year-old infielder got his first start of the season against a right-handed pitcher, getting the nod at first base in place of a resting Nolan Schanuel, and Grissom took advantage by driving an Erick Fedde sweeper over the left-field fence in the seventh inning. Grissom's slashing an impressive .342/.413/.526 through 13 games since coming off the IL with four doubles, one homer, five RBI and six runs. If he continues to show he can be more than a short-side platoon option, Grissom could begin to push Adam Frazier aside at second base and stake a claim to the starting job.
