Hellebuyck stopped 17 of 18 shots in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Stars. Hellebuyck enjoyed a successful debut with New Jersey after arriving from Winnipeg in a blockbuster trade. The three-time Vezina Trophy winner faced relatively little pressure as the Devils controlled the contest, making his transition into the starting role considerably easier, and he was only beaten by Justin Hryckowian, who found the twine late in the second period. His arrival significantly strengthens New Jersey's goaltending outlook, and the combination of his established ability and the team's recent defensive form makes him an elite fantasy option. The Devils have won four games in a row while conceding just six goals over that stretch, meaning Hellebuyck landed in an excellent scenario.

Hellebuyck will defend the road net against Dallas on Tuesday, per Peter Baugh of The Athletic. Hellebuyck will make his New Jersey debut in his first start of the 2026-27 campaign. The Devils acquired the star netminder from Winnipeg on Friday in exchange for Dawson Mercer, Nico Daws, Alexander Command, Nick Bjugstad (pectoral), a 2029 second-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick. Hellebuyck posted a 23-23-11 record, a 2.86 GAA and an .895 save percentage in 57 regular-season appearances for the Jets in 2025-26.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe said Monday that Hellebuyck (not injury related) intends to play during the Devils' upcoming three-game road trip, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports. While Hellebuyck appears to be close to making his team debut, Keefe said that there are "several boxes they'll need to tick" before the Devils officially give the green light to their new netminder. If Hellebuyck is held out during New Jersey's back-to-back set that includes a game against Dallas on Tuesday and a matchup against Colorado on Wednesday, Jake Allen and Remi Poirier would likely handle goaltending duties for the Devils.

Hellebuyck was traded to the Devils from the Jets on Friday in exchange for Dawson Mercer, Nico Daws, Alexander Command, Nick Bjugstad (pectoral) and a pair of draft picks. Hellebuyck was suspended by the Jets to begin the 2026-27 campaign amid his looming trade request, but he'll presumably be available for the Devils shortly after he joins the team. The three-time Vezina Trophy winner made 57 regular-season appearances for Winnipeg last year, going 23-23-11 with a 2.86 GAA and .895 save percentage.

Hellebuyck (suspension) is not listed on the Jets' official roster, per the NHL media site Friday. Hellebuyck remains suspended by the team while he holds out for a trade. So far, the 33-year-old backstop has not missed any regular-season action, but that will change when the Jets face the Bruins at home Friday. With Hellebuyck away from the team, Stuart Skinner figures to fill the No. 1 role while Clay Stevenson serves as the backup.
