Reasons Why The Dallas Stars Can Win The Stanley Cup

Top Stars News

  • Stars' Kyle Burroughs: Lands one-year agreement

Burroughs signed a one-year, two-way contract with Dallas on Monday.

Burroughs had one goal and six assists in 18 regular-season appearances for AHL Ontario in 2025-26. He will probably spend most, if not all, of the 2026-27 campaign with AHL Texas.

  • Stars' Jamie Benn: Agrees to one-year contract

Benn signed a one-year, $850,000 contract with the Stars on Friday.

Benn had 15 goals, 36 points, 53 PIM and 79 hits in 60 regular-season appearances in 2025-26. The 36-year-old shouldn't be counted on to get much more than 40 points next season -- and even that milestone might be missed if he deals with injury issues -- but he should be a solid bottom-six option and continue to guide the squad as its captain.

  • Stars' Joel Kiviranta: Back with Dallas

Kiviranta signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Stars on Wednesday.

Kiviranta will have a second stint with Dallas after playing there from 2019-20 to 2022-23. He's coming off a down year of nine points, 50 shots on net and 63 hits over 51 regular-season games with the Avalanche in 2025-26. Kiviranta will contend for bottom-six minutes in 2026-27, giving him limited potential in fantasy.

  • Stars' Brandon Halverson: Signs with Dallas

Halverson signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Stars on Wednesday.

Halverson made three regular-season NHL appearances for the Lightning across the past two seasons, but he spent most of his time in the AHL. Across 43 regular-season starts with AHL Syracuse last year, he went 24-11-10 with a 2.42 GAA and .905 save percentage.

  • Stars' Arttu Hyry: Gets two-year contract

Hyry (lower body) signed a two-year, $1.8 million contract with the Stars on Wednesday.

Hyry completed his entry-level contract, which made him a restricted free agent. He had three goals, five points, two PIM and 32 hits in 20 regular-season appearances in 2025-26. Hyry will have to earn his roster spot with the Stars during training camp, but there's a fair chance that he'll end up spending all of 2026-27 in the NHL.

  • Stars' Artem Shlaine: Lands two-way contract

Shlaine signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Stars on Wednesday.

Shlaine played exclusively for AHL Texas last year, recording 19 goals, 19 assists and 12 PIM across 67 regular-season appearances. He hasn't yet made his NHL debut, but he'll remain with the Stars on a two-way pact for the 2026-27 campaign.

  • Stars' Jakub Vanecek: Nabbed by Dallas in Round 2

Vanecek was the 59th overall pick by Dallas in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday.

Vanecek made the move to North America this past season, joining WHL Tri-City. He led a poor Americans team in scoring among rearguards (14 goals and 35 points in 59 games), seeing a ton of playing time in all situations. He finished the year with a strong showing (five points in seven games) for Czechia at the World U18. At 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, Vanecek has plenty of size and mobility. If you think the offense will translate to the professional ranks, he probably should have been in the first-round discussion, especially in this draft. Vanecek is a quality prospect.

  • Stars' Matthew Seminoff: Re-ups in Big D

Seminoff agreed to terms on a two-year, two-way contract with Dallas on Thursday.

Seminoff has spent the last three seasons playing in the minors, primarily with AHL Texas, but he has yet to force his way into a call-up with the big club. Still, that NHL debut could be on the horizon after the 22-year-old winger racked up 24 goals and 26 assists in 72 regular-season games for Texas, adding another four points in five playoff contests. While Seminoff is unlikely to make the Stars coming out of training camp, he should be on the promotion short list when injuries pop up.

  • Stars' Harrison Scott: Inks extension with Dallas

Scott signed a two-year, two-way contract extension with the Stars on Thursday.

Scott hasn't yet made his NHL debut, but he performed well during his first full season with AHL Texas during the 2025-26 campaign, recording 18 goals, 14 assists and 38 PIM across 72 regular-season appearances. He'll likely spend most of his time in the minors during the 2026-27 season.

  • Stars' Kyle Capobianco: Re-ups with Dallas

Capobianco signed a two-year, $1.75 million contract with the Stars on Wednesday.

Capobianco's deal is a one-way contract in both seasons, giving him stable money even if he ends up in the AHL at some point. He is the eighth blueliner the Stars have under contract for 2026-27 at this point in the offseason. The 28-year-old logged five points, 18 shots on net, 27 blocked shots and 12 hits over 33 regular-season appearances in 2025-26, but he didn't play during the Stars' first-round playoff exit against the Wild.

  • Stars' Luke Krys: Staying in Dallas organization

Krys signed a two-year, two-way contract extension with the Stars on Wednesday.

Krys' 2025-26 campaign got off to a delayed start after he recovered from an Achilles injury. He showed well after debuting in January, earning 16 points over 40 regular-season games in the minors and two assists across five playoff outings. The defenseman has yet to make his NHL debut and will likely need to play a full and healthy season in 2026-27 to get that chance in the near future.

  • Stars' Emil Hemming: Helps complete series comeback

Hemming scored twice in OHL Barrie's 5-0 win over Brantford in Game 7 on Monday.

The Colts were down 3-1 in the series at one point, but they rallied back to advance to the OHL Finals. Hemming had four goals and three assists against the Bulldogs, and he's up to a total of 10 goals and 22 points through 16 playoff contests. Hemming will look to keep his offense going against Kitchener with a spot in the Memorial Cup on the line for the winner of the next series.

  • Stars' Nathan Bastian: Was ready to play

Bastian (hand) told reporters Monday that he could have suited up for Game 6 against the Wild, Sam Nestler of DLLS Sports reports.

Bastian hadn't played in an NHL game since March 28 against the Penguins, missing the last nine contests of the regular season as well as all six of the Stars' playoff games. The 28-year-old winger will head into the offseason as an unrestricted free agent. Considering he logged just six goals and an assist over 36 regular-season outings, fantasy managers will probably want to look elsewhere for forward depth.

  • Stars' Roope Hintz: Mending from hamstring injury

Hintz (hamstring) believes he was close to returning to the lineup after dealing with a setback in his recovery, according to Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News on Monday.

Hintz, who tore his hamstring in two spots, was hopeful that he could have played in Game 2 or 3 had the Stars advanced to the second round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, he will have the summer to recover fully after Dallas' first-round exit at the hands of Minnesota on Thursday.

  • Stars' Tyler Seguin: Should be ready for training camp

Seguin (knee) expects to be available for the start of training camp in the fall, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports Monday.

Seguin appeared in only 27 games during the 2025-26 regular season, providing seven goals and 17 points. He underwent surgery in mid-December to repair a torn ACL. Seguin's inability to stay healthy over the last three regular seasons will likely hurt his fantasy stock ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

  • Stars' Cameron Hughes: Three points in AHL playoff win

Hughes scored a goal and added two assists in AHL Texas' 5-4 overtime win over Chicago in Game 4 on Sunday.

Hughes helped Texas keep its playoff run alive with this performance. He's earned six points over four playoff contests this season after producing a career-best 68 points in 65 regular-season outings. Hughes also saw action in three NHL games, picking up his first point, a goal, in an April 9 game against the Wild.
