C.J. Stroud QB | HOU
Texans' C.J. Stroud: Not expected to see action in preseason opener
Stroud is among the Texans' starters not expected to play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Chargers, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Per Alexander, Thursday's contest is likely to feature rookies and journeyman players trying to make the Texans' 53-man roster rather than established starters. In that scenario, Stroud's next chance to see preseason action will occur Aug. 20 against the Raiders. Davis Mills and Graham Mertz are available to handle QB reps against Los Angeles on Thursday.

Qwan'tez Stiggers DB | NYJ
Jets' Qwan'tez Stiggers: In concussion protocol
Stiggers is in league concussion protocol, per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
Stiggers had to be taken in an ambulance to a local hospital after collapsing during a joint practice Tuesday, but he has since been released and is recovering. While Stiggers works his way back to being cleared for football activities, Jordan Clark could be a beneficiary of the reps left behind in the secondary.

Malik Nabers WR | NYG
Giants' Malik Nabers: Still contained to individual drills
Nabers (knee) remained limited to individual drills at Wednesday's practice, Evan Barnes of Newsday reports.
According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, Nabers logged less work than normal Wednesday, working on the side before heading indoors with a member of the Giants' medical staff about one hour into the session. With New York's preseason opener coming up Saturday versus the Vikings, Nabers' decreased workload may have been tied to the team installing the game plan for that contest. In any case, Nabers has missed only one practice to date in training camp and seems as if he has a chance to be active Week 1 against the Cowboys on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Jordan Mims RB | PHI
Jordan Mims: Gets waived by Vikes
Minnesota waived Mims on Wednesday.
In a corresponding transaction, the Vikings signed running back Jermar Jefferson. Mims' stint in Minnesota ended up lasting just a little more than two weeks, and he'll now become a free agent again unless he's claimed by another team during the current waiver period.

Quinyon Mitchell CB | PHI
Eagles' Quinyon Mitchell: Exits practice with injury
Mitchell (undisclosed) left practice early Wednesday and did not return, Brooks Kubena of The Athletic reports.
Per Christiaan DeFranco of The Daily Local News, Mitchell was shaken up after a one-on-one drill with wide receiver Hollywood Brown, but the precise nature of the injury is still unknown. If Mitchell misses more time, Kelee Ringo would be a candidate to fill the vacated reps with the first-team defense.

Tetairoa McMillan WR | CAR
Panthers' Tetairoa McMillan: Offseason work showing up in practice
Coach Dave Canales said Wednesday that McMillan got "bigger and stronger" in the offseason, which has been apparent on the practice field in training camp, Mike Kaye of ESPN.com reports.
In particular, McMillan put a double move on CB Mike Jackson at Wednesday's practice, creating more separation than he would have previously after beating Jackson off the line before gathering in a touchdown from QB Bryce Young. "At the line of scrimmage, [McMillan] just hasn't really had an issue this camp," Canales added. "Getting off the line, I think that he's really translating all the work he did in the offseason." McMillan again is expected to serve as the top pass catcher in the Panthers offense this season after a 2025 rookie campaign in which he posted a 70-1,014-7 line on 122 targets in 17 regular-season games.

Jeremy McNichols RB | WAS
Commanders' Jeremy McNichols: Nursing quad issue
McNichols (quadriceps) did not participate at the Commanders' training camp practice Wednesday, Ben Standig of Big 100 Washington D.C. reports.
Per Standig, McNichols is day-to-day, so it seems like the injury isn't anything severe. While the veteran is sidelined, Jerome Ford and rookie undrafted free agent Robert Henry could get more looks out of Washington's backfield.

Austin Reed QB | BAL
Ravens' Austin Reed: Picked up by Baltimore
The Ravens signed Reed on Wednesday, Quentin Corpuel of the team's official site reports.
In a corresponding transaction, Baltimore placed quarterback Skylar Thompson (undisclosed) on its injured reserve list. Reed most recently played professionally for the UFL's Dallas Renegades, and with them he threw for 1,923 yards and 21 touchdowns over 10 games as a starter.

Emeka Egbuka WR | TB
Buccaneers' Emeka Egbuka: Toe sprain to be checked out
Egbuka suffered a sprained toe during Wednesday's practice, and testing will determine the severity of the injury, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Egbuka limped off the practice field Wednesday after getting rolled up on by a teammate, but Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported that the issue is considered to be minor. Upcoming imaging could change that tune, but Egbuka now seems destined to miss Friday's preseason game at the Jets along with QB Baker Mayfield, who is healthy but won't play in that contest.
