  • Amari Cooper WR | LV

Browns' Amari Cooper: Suffers minor tweak Sunday

Cooper is considered day-to-day after suffering a minor tweak during Sunday's training camp practice, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

The good news is that Browns GM Andrew Berry said the tweak wasn't related to Cooper's offseason core muscle surgery, but it's possible the star wideout still misses a few practices, as Cleveland figures to be cautious this early in training camp. The 2015 first-round pick was stellar during his first year with the Browns in 2022, posting his third 1,000-plus-yard campaign over the past four years while securing a career-high nine touchdowns. When healthy, Cooper will attempt to build a rapport with Deshaun Watson, who's looking to bounce back after a subpar six-game stretch following a lengthy suspension last season.

  • Kadarius Toney WR | CLE

Chiefs' Kadarius Toney: Tweaks knee during warmups

Toney "tweaked his knee" while shagging punts before Sunday's training camp practice, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.

Toney didn't participate in drills after suffering the injury, but the severity of the issue remains unclear. Either way, it's a concerning development for the oft-injured wideout, who's struggled to deliver consistent production despite immense talent. Kansas City figures to be extremely cautious with Toney moving forward, which should allow Skyy Moore, Rashee Rice, Richie James and Justyn Ross to get more first-team work in with Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

  • Izaiah Gathings: Let go by Jets

Gathings was waived by the Jets on Saturday, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports.

The move coincides with the Jets signing defensive lineman Ifeadi Odenigbo and running back Damarea Crockett. Gathings signed as an undrafted free agent in May after participating in the Jets' rookie minicamp. He had 60 catches for 559 yards and two touchdowns in his final season at Middle Tennessee.

  • Marvin Jones WR | DET

Lions' Marvin Jones: Goes on NFI list

The Lions placed Jones on the active/non-football injury list Sunday for an unspecified reason, Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reports.

An explanation for Jones' absence to begin training camp could be provided in the coming days. Even though he's opening camp on the NFI list, Jones is eligible to practice and take part in preseason games whenever deemed ready to do so. As a result, the NFI designation doesn't have any bearing on his availability for Week 1.

  • Amari Cooper WR | LV

Browns' Amari Cooper: Won't be limited at training camp

Cooper (abdomen) will face zero restrictions ahead of training camp, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

It's encouraging to hear the veteran receiver dismiss the notion he'd potentially miss any practice time stemming from a February core muscle surgery. Cooper was already spotted participating in 11-on-11 drills back in early June, so by all accounts it seems as if the star target will be healthy entering 2023. The ninth-year pro will aim for his fourth season with at least 1,100 receiving yards since 2019 and will be part of an already talented pass-catching group aided by the offseason addition of Elijah Moore.

  • Grant DuBose WR | BUF

Packers' Grant DuBose: Lands on NFI list

DuBose (undislosed) will start camp on the active/NFI list, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

DuBose was selected by the Packers in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He recorded 15 touchdowns and 126 receptions across 24 games in his final two collegiate seasons. When healthy, he is expected to compete for a depth wide receiver spot during training camp.

  • Browns' Marquise Goodwin: Placed on active/NFI list

Goodwin (illness) was placed on the active/non-football illness list by the Browns on Friday, Cory Kinnan of USA Today reports.

Goodwin will open camp on the sideline due to blood clots that were recently discovered in his legs and lungs, but he'll be eligible to return to practice and play at any point this preseason. The Browns' first exhibition is slated for Aug. 3 versus the Jets, and given the seriousness of Goodwin's health issues, it seems unlikely he'll be ready to suit up in that game.

  • Browns' Michael Woods: Placed on active/NFI list

Woods (Achilles) was placed on the active/non-football injury list by the Browns on Friday.

Woods suffered a ruptured Achilles in April while working out with quarterback Deshaun Watson, and he's expected to miss the entirety of the 2023 campaign. The wide receiver will likely transition to injured reserve at some point leading up to the regular season.

  • Browns' Anthony Schwartz: Placed on active/NFI list

Schwartz (hamstring) was placed on the active/non-football injury list by the Browns on Friday.

Schwartz will open camp on the sidelines as he continues to nurse a hamstring injury. The wide receiver is eligible to return to practice at any point and play this preseason, though it's unclear if he'll be able to go in the Browns' first exhibition Aug. 3 versus the Jets.

  • Browns' Austin Watkins: Signs with Cleveland

Watkins and the Browns agreed on a contract Friday, Brad Stainbrook of 247Sports.com reports.

Watkins will join Cleveland ahead of their upcoming training camp after spending the 2022 campaign as a free agent. The wide receiver has yet to make his NFL debut after a collegiate career at UAB and he'll look to at least crack the Browns' practice squad ahead of the 2023 season.
