  • Darnell Mooney WR | NYG

Bears' Darnell Mooney: Not in line to play Saturday

Mooney isn't expected to play in Saturday's preseason game at Indianapolis, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Along with Mooney, DJ Moore, Chase Claypool (hamstring), Tyler Scott and Velus Jones (undisclosed) won't be available in the Bears' second exhibition. Mooney was cleared to practice at the start of training camp after spending the entire offseason in recovery mode from the ankle injury that ended his 2022 campaign after Week 12. With the offseason addition of Moore, Mooney now is the No. 2 receiving option, at best, for quarterback Justin Fields in the Bears offense.

  • Jaguars' Parker Washington: Finds end zone with lone catch

Washington recorded one reception on two targets for 15 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 25-7 preseason win over the Lions. He added one rush for minus-1 yard, returned two kickoffs for 46 yards and ran back three punts for 21 yards.

Washington was on the field to start the game and was targeted on the first pass attempt from C.J. Beathard. His more impactful effort came just before halftime, when he caught a short pass to the left prior to shedding a tackle and turning upfield for a 15-yard score. Washington also handled punt returns, which could be his primary contribution to begin the regular season.

  • Garrett Wilson WR | NYJ

Jets' Garrett Wilson: Not expected to play Saturday

Wilson isn't in line to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Buccaneers, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.

Per Randy Lange of the Jets' official site, Wilson returned to practice in recent days after spending two-plus weeks rehabbing a low ankle sprain, but it looks as though the team will play it safe with the wideout Saturday. In that event, Wilson's next chance to see exhibition action will be next Saturday against the Giants.

  • Tyreek Hill WR | MIA

Dolphins' Tyreek Hill: Expected to play Saturday

Hill is among the Dolphins' healthy starters expected to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.

The same applies to top QB Tua Tagovailoa, while fellow starting wideout Jaylen Waddle is dealing with an abdomen injury and is not in line to play Saturday. Though it appears as though Hill will see some reps against Houston, we wouldn't expect his appearance to be a lengthy one, with the team's depth options likely to see plenty of action after the key skill players get their work in.

  • Jaylen Waddle WR | DEN

Dolphins' Jaylen Waddle: Won't play Saturday

Waddle (abdomen) is not in line to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans.

Waddle has been missing practice of late, so his looming Saturday absence is not surprising. While the 2021 first-rounder isn't slated to see action versus Houston, fellow WR Tyreek Hill isn't among those listed by the Dolphins as not expected to play. Waddle's final opportunity to log exhibition action will arrive Aug. 26 against the Jaguars.

  • Ravens' Odell Beckham: Back at practice

Beckham returned to practice Saturday after having been given a couple of rest days, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Hensley relayed Friday via coach John Harbaugh that the team elected to rest Beckham because he's been practicing so hard of late. Assuming no setbacks ahead of Week 1, Beckham -- who is bouncing back from knee surgery -- is slated to be a key passing target for QB Lamar Jackson, along with fellow WRs Rashod Bateman and Zay Flowers and top TE Mark Andrews.

  • Giants' Parris Campbell: Records three catches Friday

Campbell caught all three of his targets for 23 yards in Friday's exhibition win against Carolina.

After sitting out New York's preseason opener, Campbell worked with the starters in Friday's win. His longest gain was a 13-yarder in the middle of the field. Campbell appears to be in line to begin as the Giants' WR3 this season, though rookie Jalin Hyatt -- who caught a touchdown pass Friday -- is among a host of pass catchers in a crowded receiver room who could cut into Campbell's snap share.

  • Charlie Jones WR | CIN

Bengals' Charlie Jones: Steps up as pass catcher

Jones recorded four receptions on six targets for 36 yards in Friday's 13-13 tie against the Falcons in preseason action.

Jones is expected to see the field primarily as a special-teams contributor early in his career, though he got the opportunity to show his prowess as a pass catcher Friday. He largely delivered in short areas of the field and was a reliable target for both Trevor Siemian and Jake Browning. Jones did also commit an offensive pass interference penalty, leaving him with an uneven offensive performance through two preseason appearances.

  • Giants' Sterling Shepard: Sees first action since return

Shepard caught his only target for six yards in Friday's preseason win over the Panthers.

In his first game action since tearing his ACL in Week 3 last year, Shepard was on the other end of a Tyrod Taylor toss right before halftime as the Giants ran a brief two-minute drill. Despite his return to full health, the veteran slot receiver faces a lot more competition for snaps and targets than he did to begin the 2022 campaign, and Shepard could find himself buried on the depth chart and potentially even off the game-day roster for a Week 1 tilt against the Cowboys.

  • Jalin Hyatt WR | NYG

Giants' Jalin Hyatt: Gets into end zone Friday

Hyatt caught four of five targets for 35 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason win over the Panthers.

After a quiet preseason debut last week, the 2023 third-round pick flashed his big-play potential with a 33-yard TD reception from Tyrod Taylor in the second quarter, as Hyatt broke free of veteran cornerback Eric Rowe to get wide open in the end zone. Hyatt is in a dogfight for snaps and targets in a crowded Giants receiver room, but if he keeps making an impact, his presence could encourage starting QB Daniel Jones and coach Brian Daboll to open up the playbook and attack downfield more often than they did last season.
