Edwards rushed for 34 yards on four attempts and also caught a pass for five yards in a losing effort versus the Bears.

The undrafted rookie, currently listed among the fourth-string running backs, was fighting for his roster life on Thursday and was able to make a strong impression, although it might be too little, too late. Edwards had just one rush for two yards in Cleveland's first three preseason games. The odds of him making the final cut are extremely low.

Mostert (hamstring) will not play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Bears, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon-Journal reports.

Mostert didn't play in the Browns' third preseason game and wasn't expected to play Thursday. He's battling for the team's No. 3 and possibly final running back slot, and missing time won't help his cause. Terrell Watson figures to see some extra snaps while Mostert is out.

With Keith Marshall moved to IR earlier in the week, it appears that Kelley has secured the No. 3 spot in Washington's backfield. Mack Brown had a stellar performance in Wednesday's win, but it doesn't seem like it will uproot Kelley's chances of making the team. Both Matt Jones (shoulder) and Chris Thompson (shoulder) are currently dealing with injuries which means Kelley could see an expanded role to begin the season next week.

Sims won't suit up for Wednesday's preseason contest against the Redskins, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Sims will join fellow backs Doug Martin and Mike James on the sideline. In their stead, the running back reps will be handled by Peyton Barber and Russell Hansbrough.

The lack of comment can be taken as a positive, given that Carroll ruled Rawls out ahead of each of the first three preseason games. Either way, Rawls is expected to split carries with Christine Michael, who has been a pleasant surprise for the Seahawks throughout training camp and the preseason. It's not clear how the carries/snaps will be divided, and there's also a shot third-round rookie C.J. Prosise (hamstring) will handle some or all of the passing downs. Prosise is expected to play in Thursday's preseason game and should be available for Week 1.

Draughn (ribs) may miss Thursday's preseason finale against the Chargers, The Sacramento Bee reports.

Even if Draughn is healthy enough to play, the 49ers would be wise to hold their 28-year-old running back out of Thursday's game, as he's seemingly already locked in as the top backup to Carlos Hyde (concussion). With Hyde making quick progress in the NFL's concussion protocol, the Niners should have their full stable of running backs Week 1 against the Rams. Thursday's preseason game won't be entirely without intrigue, as Mike Davis, DuJuan Harris (and possibly) Kelvin Taylor are duking it out for the No. 3 running back job. Draughn is expected to be fine for Week 1.

Gillislee (concussion) returned to practice Tuesday and said he is no longer in the NFL's concussion protocol, The Buffalo News reports.

While only listed at No. 3 on the preseason depth chart, Gillislee would seemingly be next in line to serve as the lead ball carrier if LeSean McCoy were to suffer an injury. Running back Reggie Bush is expected to have a more receiving-oriented role, perhaps even mixing in with the starting offense while McCoy is also on the field. Rookie fifth-round selection Jonathan Williams (ribs), who missed Tuesday's practice, could eventually push for Gillislee's spot on the depth chart. If McCoy were to miss time, the Bills would likely deploy some sort of committee, though as of this second Gilleslee probably makes for the best McCoy insurance policy.

Oliver (Achilles) was placed on IR by the Chargers.

With Oliver, who injured his Achilles during Sunday's preseason game in Minnesota now on IR, the Chargers' running back depth behind Melvin Gordon and Danny Woodhead takes a pretty tough hit. The team's current options on that front are Kenneth Farrow and Gus Johnson, but another option could be added in the next few days.
