  • C.J. Anderson RB | LAR

Broncos' C.J. Anderson: Avoids ACL tear

Anderson has managed to avoid a torn ACL, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Anderson went for a second opinion on his injured knee Wednesday evening, and it sounds like the team plans on officially updating his status later in the day Thursday. The running back is currently facing a multi-week absence due to what was initially reported as a bone bruise, but with the knowledge in hand that this likely isn't a season-ending ailment, the Broncos can soon begin laying out a timetable for return. Until then, Devontae Booker remains in line to take over as the lead back.

  • Lions' Dwayne Washington: Practices in full Wednesday

    Washington (ankle) practiced fully Wednesday.

After focusing on rehabilitation rather than practice the past three weeks, Washington turned in an uninhibited session to begin preparation for Sunday's game at Houston. The same cannot be said for Theo Riddick (ankle), who was a limited participant Wednesday. As the week proceeds, the duo's activity level could determine which running back earns more snaps Sunday, but Washington may be a step ahead at the moment.

  • Texans' Jonathan Grimes: Returns to limited practice

Grimes (ankle) returned to a limited practice Wednesday.

It remains to be seen if Grimes is a candidate to play Sunday against the Lions, but his return to practice signifies that a return is in sight for the Texans' reserve back.

Broncos' C.J. Anderson: Getting second opinion on knee

Anderson spent Wednesday getting a second opinion on a knee injury that he sustained Monday night against the Texans.

Coach Gary Kubiak acknowledged that Anderson was "really sore" Tuesday, but so far the Broncos haven't confirmed reports that Anderson is expected to miss a few weeks with a bone bruise. Look for added clarity from the team on that front Thursday, though Anderson owners should look for a replacement plan in the meantime, ideally rookie Devontae Booker, who appears destined to start Sunday's game against the Chargers (at a minimum) in Anderson's place.

Broncos' C.J. Anderson: Expected to miss time

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo indicates that Anderson is expected to be out at least a few weeks with a knee injury that NFL Network's Ian Rapoport describes as a bone bruise.

Per Mike Klis of 9News.com, the Broncos should know more about Anderson's status Thursday, but while he is sidelined, Devontae Booker is set to head the team's rushing attack, with Kapri Bibbs presumably set to move up a peg on the team's RB depth chart.

  • Matt Jones RB | WAS

Redskins' Matt Jones: Comes down with knee injury

Jones missed Wednesday's practice due to a knee injury.

To add injury to insult, Jones is navigating a minefield within the Redskins' offense, with fumbling issues at the forefront and a knee concern now in tow. If the malady impacts his availability for Sunday's game against the Bengals in London, the backfield will be in the able hands of pass-catching back Chris Thompson and undrafted rookie Rob Kelley.

  • Lions' Dwayne Washington: Practices Wednesday

Washington (ankle) took part in practice Wednesday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Washington missed the Lions' entire three-game homestand due to an ankle injury and was joined by current No. 1 RB Theo Riddick (ankle) the past two outings. The pair's appearance in drills Wednesday is generally a positive sign, but their activity level will be of interest as the weekend draws closer.

  • C.J. Anderson RB | LAR

Broncos' C.J. Anderson: Set to miss practice with knee issue

Anderson -- who will miss practice Wednesday -- is getting a second opinion on his right knee injury, 9news.com reports.

The report notes that while there is hope Anderson's injury could be minor, the possibility that the running back could miss extended time has not been ruled out at this stage. Anderson's status for Sunday's game against the Chargers is thus cloudy, and if he is limited this week, or out, Devontae Booker -- who carried 17 times for 83 yards Monday night against the Texans -- would be in line for an expanded role.

  • Doug Martin RB | LV

Buccaneers' Doug Martin: Doesn't practice Wednesday

Martin (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Already beset by one setback, Martin will be treated with kid gloves by the Buccaneers as he rehabilitates the balky hamstring that has sidelined him since Week 2, per Auman. As a result, the training room will be Martin's domain until he's cleared to return to the practice field. In the interim, the Bucs will entrust Jacquizz Rodgers with a particularly hefty workload, which has equated to 56 carries for 255 yards and six catches for 37 yards over the last two contests.

  • Knile Davis RB | PIT

Packers' Knile Davis: Poised for more work Sunday

Davis is expected to be more involved in the offense Sunday in Atlanta, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. "Well, Knile Davis, he's part of the game plan," head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday. "I think the extra time he spent with [running backs coach] Ben Sirmans over the weekend, getting ready. ... I think this is just more of a language and communication gap that you have to fill. He's very bright. He's making progress."

Following his arrival two days before the Packers' Week 7 tilt against the Bears, Davis didn't exactly have much time to get up to speed and thus handled just five of the 87 offensive snaps. Meanwhile, Ty Montgomery headed a modified backfield, turning 19 touches into 126 yards from scrimmage, including seven targets and four rushes within the red zone. If Davis' recent study sessions gives McCarthy enough confidence to revert to a more traditional scheme, the former could be the beneficiary, though Don Jackson may also play a role if his left hand recovers sufficiently in the coming days.
