  • Rob Kelley RB | NO

Saints' Rob Kelley: Joins New Orleans

Kelley signed with the Saints, John DeShazier of the Saints' official site reports.

The Saints have been looking at veteran running backs, including Alfred Morris (Cowboys) and Theo Riddick (free agent). The team appears to have settled on Kelley, who took just four carries last season in Washington before a toe injury brought his campaign to an early end. He's never shown much explosiveness or receiving ability, but he's a big, tough runner with experience on special teams. With Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray locked in atop the depth chart, Kelley will compete against Dwayne Washington, Javorius Allen, Devine Ozigbo and Matt Dayes.

  • Chiefs' Damien Williams: Missing another session

Williams (hamstring) isn't in pads for practice Tuesday, Brooke Pryor of The Kansas City Star reports.

Williams will miss a second session following his early exit from Sunday's practice. A short-team absence shouldn't make much difference, considering coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy both made it clear during the offseason that they view Williams as their starting running back. Recovery from hamstring injuries is difficult to predict, so the Chiefs likely will take a cautious approach, giving Carlos Hyde most of the first-team backfield reps in the meantime.

  • Jeff Wilson RB | MIA

49ers' Jeff Wilson: Tweaks leg during practice

Wilson appeared to suffer a minor injury to his lower right leg during Monday's training camp practice, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.

Wilson did not take part in additional drills, but he did stay on the field for the remainder of practice, so the injury doesn't sound serious. The 23-year-old is currently fighting for a backup/special teams spot on the 53-man roster this preseason.

  • Derrick Henry RB | BAL

Titans' Derrick Henry: No practice Monday

Henry (foot) did not practice Monday, Erik Bacharach of The Tennessean reports.

Henry exited practice Friday with an undisclosed health issue and was most recently seen wearing a walking boot. He's now missed three consecutive days of camp work. For now, the injury shouldn't raise major red flags so long as he proves his health at some point in the preseason.

  • Detrez Newsome RB | LAC

Chargers' Detrez Newsome: Returns from leg injury

Newsome (leg) was participating at practice Monday, Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com reports.

Newsome limped off the field at the end of Sunday's practice with the leg issue but had no problems on the field Monday. The 25-year-old presumably falls behind Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson on the depth chart while Melvin Gordon continues his holdout.

  • 49ers' Raheem Mostert: Healthy for training camp

Mostert (forearm) was cleared before the start of training camp, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Mostert was held out of OTAs and minicamp after his season-ending forearm injury from last year required a follow-up surgery during the offseason. He's still locked in for a spot on the 53-man roster, as the three-year contract he signed in March includes $2.4 million guaranteed, per overthecap.com. Coach Kyle Shanahan believes the 49ers have four starting-caliber running backs, pointing to Mostert's 87-yard performance against Green Bay last October. Even so, the special-teams ace will have a tough time earning snaps in a backfield that also includes Tevin Coleman, Matt Breida and Jerick McKinnon (knee).

  • 49ers' Jerick McKinnon: Could be ready this week

Coach Kyle Shanahan said McKinnon (knee) could be removed from the PUP list soon, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area suggests McKinnon could return as soon as Thursday, with Wednesday marking the first off day of 49ers training camp. The 27-year-old running back suffered a minor setback in his ACL rehab a couple weeks ago, while backfield mate Matt Breida was cleared from the pectoral injury that held him out of offseason practices. Both players are expected to battle Tevin Coleman for snaps and touches.

  • Titans' Jeremy McNichols: Earns coach's attention

Coach Mike Vrabel said he's excited about McNichols, who is getting extra practice reps while Derrick Henry recovers from a foot injury, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

Despite the strong performance early in training camp, Erik Bacharach of The Nashville Tennessean reports that McNichols likely is competing with Alex Barnes and Dalyn Dawkins for the No. 4 running back job. Henry isn't believed to be dealing with a serious injury, and his returning backups from last season have value in the passing game (Dion Lewis) or special teams (David Fluellen). With Fluellen getting a look at fullback, the winner between McNichols, Barnes and Dawkins may actually be the third option for carries.

  • Chiefs' Damien Williams: Misses practice

Williams (hamstring) isn't practicing Monday, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

Williams was removed from Sunday's practice with an apparent hamstring injury, leaving Carlos Hyde to take over with the first-team offense. Coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy both made it clear during the offseason that they view Williams as their starting running back.

  • Detrez Newsome RB | LAC

Chargers' Detrez Newsome: Suffers apparent leg injury

Newsome hurt his right leg Sunday during practice, Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com reports.

Newsome limped off the field after taking a hit from linebacker Kyle Wilson. The second-year running back earned a roster spot as an undrafted rookie last season and now may have a better opportunity if Melvin Gordon's holdout continues. Even so, Newsome presumably falls behind Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson in the Los Angeles backfield.
