  • Damien Harris RB | BUF

Patriots' Damien Harris: Hasn't seen plentiful reps

Kevin Duffy of the Boston Herald notes that "we've seen very little from Harris this summer. Just not getting many reps." The running back did not play in this past Thursday's preseason opener against the Lions.

Duffy adds that it's "pretty clear that Sony (Michel) is the No. 1 RB right now." That's a reasonable assumption, but given Michel's history of knee issues, it's not hard to imagine a scenario in which Harris has a chance to make a fantasy splash as the upcoming season rolls along. The 2019 third-rounder has, at times, impressed with his running between the tackles in training camp practices, so it's possible that Harris could see some action in short-yardage situations early on, even when Michel is available. In any case, the Alabama product is a roster lock and still a player to keep an eye on, considering the often unpredictable carry distribution seen in New England's backfield.

  • Chiefs' Damien Williams: Returns to team drills as starter

Williams (hamstring) got the first snap Monday in team drills, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

Williams returned to practice Wednesday as a limited participant but was held out of Saturday's preseason opener against Cincinnati. Coach Andy Reid expressed some concern about the running back's extended absence from training camp, noting that Carlos Hyde was taking advantage of the opportunity. A strong showing from Darwin Thompson on Saturday further contributed to the concern surrounding Williams, but a return to full participation Monday gives the veteran plenty of time to solidify his role before Week 1. Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy both made it clear during the offseason that they view Williams as their starting running back.

  • Benny Cunningham: Released by Jacksonville

Cunningham (hamstring) was released by the Jaguars with an injury settlement Sunday, Hays Carlyon of 1010 AM WJXL reports.

Cunningham was thought to be absent from Thursday's preseason opener due to his veteran status, but he appears to have been dealing with a hamstring injury. The 29-year-old seemed to have a decent chance of cracking the Jaguars' 53-man roster as a third-down back, but he'll have to latch on elsewhere once healthy.

  • Brandon Wilds RB | JAC

49ers' Brandon Wilds: Signs with Niners

Wilds signed a one-year deal with San Francisco on Saturday.

Wilds signs on as the seventh running back on the roster, which features Tevin Coleman, Matt Breida, Jerick McKinnon (knee) and Raheem Mostert (concussion) as the top four. Wilds appeared in three games with the Jaguars early last season, seeing the field for nine offensive snaps and rushing six times for 15 yards. The 26-year-old was waived in early October and spent the rest of 2018 on Arizona's practice squad.

  • Derrick Henry RB | BAL

Titans' Derrick Henry: Working out at practice

Henry (calf) is working out on the side of Titans' practice Sunday, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.

Henry has been working his way back from a strained calf muscle and his work on the side of practice is an encouraging sign. His initial recovery timetable was expected to be a couple weeks, which he's on track with.

  • Matt Breida RB | SF

49ers' Matt Breida: Doesn't play against Dallas

Breida didn't play during Saturday's preseason opener against Dallas.

It's unclear if Breida's absence is related to the pectoral injury that held him out for most of the offseason program. He avoided the PUP list at the start of training camp, and there hasn't been any report about a setback. The 49ers may give Breida some run later in the preseason.

  • Tony Pollard RB | TEN

Cowboys' Tony Pollard: Starts in preseason opener

Pollard carried four times for 16 yards in Saturday's 17-9 preseason loss to the 49ers.

After making waves early in camp, Pollard earned the start with the first-team offense. He began their initial drive with a six-yard burst and carried three more times to help his side to a field goal. Pollard came out of college with a reputation as an impactful pass catcher, so perhaps the only real disappointment from this outing is that he didn't receive a single target. Still, Pollard seems to have caught the eye of his coaching staff and could get more work next Saturday against the Rams. Meanwhile, Ezekiel Elliott remains away from the Cowboys in his effort to secure a new contract.

  • Chiefs' Darwin Thompson: Totals 51 yards and a score

Thompson carried the ball five times for 22 yards against the Bengals in the team's first preseason contest Saturday. He also added one reception for 29 yards a touchdown.

Thompson led the team with five carries and had a few noteworthy runs, one of which he broke through several tackles to gain more yardage. However, the highlight of his night came on a slant pass over the middle as he outraced several Bengals defenders for a 29-yard score. Thompson certainly took advantage of the opportunities he received and should continue to push for more touches out of the backfield, especially so long as Damien Williams (hamstring) is sidelined.

  • John Kelly RB | CLE

Rams' John Kelly: Quiet night against Raiders

Kelly registered 10 rushing yards on three carries during Saturday's 14-3 loss to Oakland.

Kelly appears to be in a battle with Justin Davis for the final spot in the Rams' backfield rotation, per Vincent Bonsignore of the Athletic, so a 3.3 yards per carry average in the preseason opener is far from an ideal result. In Kelly's defense, though, no one was capable of getting anything going on the ground for Los Angeles, as Rams backs combined for 2.4 yards per rush against Oakland, with only three running back carries picking up four or more yards throughout the entirety of the contest.

  • Bengals' Trayveon Williams: Out with rib injury

Williams suffered a bruised rib and won't return to Saturday's preseason game against the Chiefs.

Williams rushed five times for five yards and caught his lone target for 13 yards before leaving the contest. Quinton Flowers and Jordan Ellis are the remaining available running backs for the Bengals since Joe Mixon, Giovani Bernard and Rodney Anderson (knee) didn't suit up Saturday.
