  • Bengals' Trayveon Williams: Out with rib injury

Williams suffered a bruised rib and won't return to Saturday's preseason game against the Chiefs.

Williams rushed five times for five yards and caught his lone target for 13 yards before leaving the contest. Quinton Flowers and Jordan Ellis are the remaining available running backs for the Bengals since Joe Mixon, Giovani Bernard and Rodney Anderson (knee) didn't suit up Saturday.

  • 49ers' Raheem Mostert: Enters concussion protocol

Mostert suffered a concussion during Saturday's preseason game versus the Cowboys, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

This is yet another health concern for the 49ers backfield, whose injured includes Jerick McKinnon (knee) and Jeff Wilson (calf), while Matt Breida tended to a partially torn pectoral during the offseason. Although Tevin Coleman, McKinnon and Breida figure to have regular roles, when healthy, a player like Mostert could make an impact when the RB room is less than 100 percent, as he did last season before breaking his forearm. For the time being, though, Mostert will be contained to the concussion protocol until his symptoms diminish and he's cleared by an independent neurologist.

  • Akeem Hunt RB | KC

Titans' Akeem Hunt: Signs with Titans

Hunt was added to the Titans' active roster Saturday, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.

Hunt will fill a depth role for Tennessee. He hasn't appeared in an NFL game since 2017.

  • Falcons' Kenjon Barner: Has touchdown called back

Barner turned his lone target into a 37-yard gain during Thursday's 34-27 loss to MIami.

Barner caught a screen from Matt Schaub, plowed through two defenders, and streaked 37 yards down the field for what at first appeared to be a touchdown, but ultimately the replay officials determined the play should be spotted at the 1-yard line. The following play, Brian Hill vultured the touchdown from Barner, but at least the seven-year veteran made his presence felt offensively. Sixty-eight of his 186 career touches have come on kick or punt returns, and Thursday night he served as the Falcons' primary punt returner (nine yards on his only attempt), while also picking up 38 yards on two kick returns.

  • 49ers' Raheem Mostert: Undergoing concussion tests

Mostert left Saturday's preseason contest against the Cowboys to be evaluated for a concussion, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Mostert was injured while picking up a blitz in the first quarter, forcing him first to the blue sideline tent and eventually the locker room. If he indeed enters the concussion protocol, the 49ers backfield will be down to just two available options: Austin Walter and Brandon Wilds.

  • Josh Jacobs RB | GB

Raiders' Josh Jacobs: Out for preseason opener

Jacobs isn't expected to suit up for Saturday's preseason game versus the Rams, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Selected by the Raiders in the first round of the 2019 draft, Jacobs is in line to be the early down running back this fall and even has showed off his pass-catching chops during training camp. However, his pro debut will have to wait until Thursday at Arizona, at the earliest.

  • Chiefs' Damien Williams: Not playing Saturday

Williams (hamstring) won't play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Bengals, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

Williams has been battling the hamstring issue since July 28 so it's no surprise to see him sit out the first preseason contest. The 27-year-old was able to return to practice and participate in individual drills this week, so he appears to be progressing toward his return. Willams' preseason workload may remain limited even once he returns to full health.

  • Buccaneers' Dare Ogunbowale: Shines with pair of scores

Ogunbowale rushed 10 times for 34 yards and two touchdowns in the Buccaneers' 30-28 preseason loss to the Steelers on Friday.

The second-year back figures to battle veteran Andre Ellington throughout the preseason for a No. 3 running back role, and Ogunbowale certainly got that bid off to a strong start. The Wisconsin product found the end zone on two occasions, going in from 10 yards in the third quarter and then powering in from one yard away with just 10 seconds remaining in the game to cap off a 13-play, 64-yard march. Ogunbowale is younger than Ellington, and like the veteran, can also return kicks. Therefore, he would appear to have a solid shot of sticking on the final roster if he continues to provide a similar caliber of performance in upcoming exhibitions.

  • Buccaneers' Andre Ellington: Sees action in multiple roles

Ellington rushed four times for nine yards, brought in his only target for nine yards, and returned three kickoffs for 59 yards in the Buccaneers' 30-28 preseason loss to the Steelers on Friday.

The veteran running back saw action behind the top duo of Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones, as expected. Ellington couldn't do much on the ground while playing with second- and third-string offensive linemen, but he proved solid on kickoff returns during what was his first game action since 2017 with the Texans. Fellow reserve back Dare Ogunbowale paced the Buccaneers with 10 carries and two rushing touchdowns Friday and is also capable of returning kicks, so the battle between him and Ellington could be one that extends through the last preseason game.

  • Jordan Wilkins RB | CLE

    Colts' Jordan Wilkins: Missing practice

Wilkins (foot) did not participate in Saturday's practice, Kevin Bowen of 1070 The Fan Indianapolis reports.

Wilkins has been held out of a handful of practices with a reported foot injury in recent weeks. Head coach Frank Reich suggested the team is still "trying to determine the best course of action with his foot," a perhaps ominous note that would hint the second-year back could continue to miss time. While Nyheim Hines is locked into his role as a third-down specialist, newly signed D'Onta Foreman figures to be the biggest beneficiary if Wilkins' absence were to be prolonged, as the Texans castoff could wiggle his way into the primary backup duties behind Marlon Mack with a solid training camp.
