  • Melvin Gordon RB | BAL

Broncos' Melvin Gordon: Back at practice Friday

Gordon (ribs) participated in Friday's practice, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.

It's unclear if Gordon practiced at full speed. Last week, head coach Vic Fangio relayed that he didn't believe Gordon's injury was serious, and since the running back was on the field a little more than a week before the season opener, there shouldn't be much concern about his Week 1 availability.

  • Craig Reynolds: Shown door in Atlanta

The Falcons waived Reynolds on Friday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.

Reynolds had an uphill battle to make the roster anyway, and it looks like the Falcons will stick with Todd Gurley, Brian Hill, Ito Smith and Qadree Ollison. The 24-year-old could be a practice-squad candidate.

  • Devine Ozigbo RB | DET

Jaguars' Devine Ozigbo: Rising up depth chart

John Reid of The Florida Times-Union lists Ozigbo as the No. 1 running back on the Jaguars' projected regular-season depth chart.

Reid appears to have adjusted the depth chart to reflect the news that Ryquell Armstead was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday. As a result, there's no telling when Armstead will be ready to join his teammates for practice, and eventually, Week 1 prep. Jacksonville's backfield is in flux following the decision to waive Leonard Fournette earlier this week. While Chris Thompson is locked in as the pass-catching option, Armstead, Ozigbo and even undrafted rookie James Robinson are vying for RB reps. Last season, Ozigbo turned 12 touches into 50 yards from scrimmage across 10 games as he primarily logged time on special teams.

  • John Kelly RB | CLE

    John Kelly: Jettisoned by Rams

The Rams waived Kelly on Friday, Stu Jackson of the team's official site reports.

A sixth-round selection by the Rams in 2018, Kelly has made just eight appearances through two pro seasons and oscillated between the 53-man roster and practice squad. Overall, he averaged 2.8 yards on 30 carries and hauled in two of three targets for 27 yards. Considering how the team has approached Kelly to date, he likely will be signed to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

  • Dare Ogunbowale: Let go by Bucs

The Buccaneers will waive Ogunbowale, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Ogunbowale appeared destined for a change-of-pace/special-teams role with the Bucs, but the team's recent addition of Leonard Fournette made him the odd man out, with Ronald Jones, Ke'Shawn Vaughn and LeSean McCoy also in the mix. It remains to be seen if Ogunbowale catches on with another team in short order or circles back with Tampa Bay once the ongoing league-wide roster trimming settles down.

  • Football Team's Antonio Gibson: Emergence contributes to AP release

Gibson's emergence during training camp played a role in Washington's decision to release Adrian Peterson on Friday, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports.

The third-round rookie already was ticketed for a role in the Week 1 gameplan, but it was Peterson who was widely viewed as the favorite to serve as the lead runner. It's now possible GIbson handles the job, though this report notes that Peyton Barber could also get carries, and the team still has J.D. McKissic for passing downs. Gibson is the one with three-down potential, even if it doesn't materialize right away.

  • Miles Sanders RB | DAL

Eagles' Miles Sanders: On track for Week 1

Sanders (lower body) is expected to be available for Sept. 13's season-opener against Washington, Paul Domowitch of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Sanders has missed a substantial amount of training camp due to a lower body injury, but reports have been consistently optimistic about his chances of suiting up Week 1. The 23-year-old will function as the lead dog in Philadelphia's backfield if he's indeed available against Washington, but until he resumes practicing without restrictions the possibility of a snap count can't be ruled out. Boston Scott and Corey Clement would be in line for increased snaps if Sanders ends up limited in any capacity.

  • Titans' Darrynton Evans: On track for practice

Evans (undisclosed) is scheduled to resume practicing Thursday afternoon, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.

Early reports from training camp suggested the rookie was struggling with fumbles, and he's now missed more than a week and a half of practice due to an unspecified injury. Evans still has time to prove his health before Week 1, but it isn't clear he'll be a significant part of the offensive gameplan in Tennessee's Monday night opener at Denver.

  • Bills' Devin Singletary: Facing uncertain backfield split

It still isn't clear how the Bills' backfield workload will be split between Singletary and Zack Moss, according to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic.

Singletary was an effective runner throughout his rookie season and showed development as a receiving threat late in the year, but he also fumbled four times and apparently wasn't consistent in pass protection. The 223-pound Moss is a better bet to handle short-yardage work, but Singletary still figures to be the nominal starter and quite possibly the lead runner. Reports of fumbling issues at camp were probably overblown, as it was only two instances through seven practices, and we haven't heard any evidence the problem continued. For what it's worth, Singletary had only five fumbles on 765 touches in his college career, and Moss had only six on 778 touches.

  • Zack Moss RB | CIN

Bills' Zack Moss: Looking good for goal-line work

It isn't clear how the Bills will split playing time between Moss and Devin Singletary, but it does seem that Moss is more likely to get goal-line touches, according to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic.

The report kind of hints at a traditional thunder/lightning backfield split, though Singletary wins with agility and vision more so than speed, while Moss is surprisingly nimble in the passing game for a 5-foot-9, 223-pound running back. In other words, both players appear reasonably versatile, which makes it tougher to get a read on the exact nature of their respective roles. It still isn't clear if Singletary's lead role from late last season will carry over to Week 1 against the Jets, as it's also possible Moss forces something closer to a 50/50 split right out of the gate. The Buffalo backfield will be one of the major fantasy storylines for the opening week of the season.
