  • Dalvin Cook RB | DAL

Vikings' Dalvin Cook: Should play Sunday

Cook (groin) is expected to play Sunday against the Packers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The 25-year-old received the questionable tag after working as a full practice participant Friday, so it's not a major surprise he's on track to play Sunday. Cook missed the Week 6 matchup with Atlanta but appears good to go coming out of Minnesota's bye week. Coach Mike Zimmer previously said he believes Cook can handle his usual workload, and there's been nothing to indicate that outlook has changed.

  • 49ers' Jerick McKinnon: Set to share load

McKinnon could be forced to share the load with Tevin Coleman (ankle), who was activated off injured reserve Saturday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The 49ers continue to make their backfield a frustrating endeavor to speculate on, as JaMycal Hasty was already considered a possible suspect to whittle into McKinnon's workload even before the news regarding Coleman's activation. Both Coleman and McKinnon were hardly effective ball carriers in their most recent respective stints as the starter so a combination of all three running backs is certainly also in play. The only thing that's clear at the moment is someone will be named "a starter" come Sunday, but recent history suggests that designation means nothing when it comes to the fantasy prospects of 49ers running backs.

  • Jeff Wilson RB | MIA

49ers' Jeff Wilson: Moved to IR

Wilson (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

This comes as no surprise considering the 49ers indicated Wilson would be placed on injured reserve earlier in the week. It's a tough bit of luck for the third-year pro after easily the best game of his career, but the return of Tevin Coleman (knee) and improving health of Jerick McKinnon likely spelled a decreased role for Wilson anyhow. Wilson will stay on injured reserve a minimum of three weeks; just long enough for Raheem Mostert (ankle) to also be eligible to return.

  • Saquon Barkley RB | PHI

    Giants' Saquon Barkley: Undergoes surgery

Barkley underwent surgery Saturday to repair the torn ACL in his right knee, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Barkley had his surgery delayed almost a month while he recovered from a less severe MCL strain, but it's now complete. The star running back will now begin the arduous process of rehabbing the injury, with both the team and doctors hopeful Barkley can make a full recovery by the start of training camp next year.

  • D'Onta Foreman RB | CLE

Titans' D'Onta Foreman: Joins 53-man roster

Foreman was elevated from the practice squad ahead of Sunday's game against the Bengals.

After Sunday the running back will return to the practice squad. Foreman will give the Titans some extra running back depth behind Derrick Henry and Jeremy McNichols.

  • Qadree Ollison RB | PIT

Falcons' Qadree Ollison: Garners first rush attempt of 2020

Ollison rushed for three yards on his only carry during Thursday's 25-17 win against the Panthers.

The second-year back had been active for just one game this season prior to Thursday night, but with Ito Smith a healthy scratch, Ollison garnered his first carry of 2020. The former Pittsburgh Panther came through with his opportunity, moving the chains on third down with his carry at the 10:30 mark of the second quarter. Ollison was utilized as a short-yardage back last season for the Falcons, gaining six first downs on 22 carries and punching in four TDs. Todd Gurley's arrival in Atlanta has curtailed Ollison's usage near the end zone, as the two-time All-Pro leads the entire NFL with 38 red-zone carries through his first eight games as a Falcon.

  • DeeJay Dallas RB | JAC

Seahawks' DeeJay Dallas: Could handle lead role?

Dallas is the only Seattle tailback without an injury designation for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.

Chris Carson (foot) and Travis Homer (knee) are listed as questionable, while Carlos Hyde (hamstring) is doubtful. Given that Homer has mostly seen playing time on passing downs to this point in his career, it's possible Dallas could be the lead ball carrier if he and Homer are the only backs available Sunday. But Carson does have a history of battling through injuries, and coach Pete Carroll expects his starter to be a game-time decision ahead of Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff. Stay tuned.

  • Lions' Jonathan Williams: Heads to Detroit

The Lions signed Williams to the active roster Friday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Williams made a pitstop on Detroit's practice squad earlier this season but was cut after just a week with the unit, inking a deal with Washington's practice squad shortly thereafter. The Lions are bringing him in as backfield depth now, but he likely won't be utilized much following D'Andre Swift's recent success and Adrian Peterson's ability to remain in the mix despite his inefficiencies. Williams won't be eligible to play Week 8 against the Colts due to COVID-19 protocols, but he could suit up next week against the Vikings.

  • Boston Scott RB | PIT

Eagles' Boston Scott: Set for another start

Scott will draw the start at running back against Dallas on Sunday, Chris McPherson of the Eagles' official site reports.

Miles Sanders (knee) has already been ruled out for Week 8, so Scott will be the lead back for a second straight game. He touched the ball 15 times last week, totaling 92 yards and a touchdown. The projected game script against a Dallas team that has only scored 13 points over its last two games and will be starting a third-string rookie QB, would seem to indicate that another solid outing for the 25-year-old is in store.

  • Travis Homer RB | PIT

Seahawks' Travis Homer: Considered a game-time call

Homer (knee) will be a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup with San Francisco, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.

Coach Pete Carroll said Homer would be able to play, but it doesn't look like a sure thing after the running back was held out of practice Wednesday and Thursday. This wouldn't normally be a huge concern for the Seattle offense, but Chris Carson (foot) is listed as questionable and Carlos Hyde (hamstring) as doubtful. Homer could have an expanded role if he's the only one of the three to play, though even in that scenario it might be DeeJay Dallas serving as the lead ball carrier. In any case, we should have a better read on this backfield situation after the Seahawks release their active list approximately 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.
