  • Panthers' Christian McCaffrey: Racks up 187 yards in Week 1

McCaffrey rushed 21 times for 98 yards and caught all nine of his targets for 89 yards in Sunday's 19-14 win over the Jets.

McCaffrey didn't find the end zone, but he still worked as the focal point of the offense, churning out 124 scrimmage yards on 16 first-half touches. Carolina's offense slowed down in the second half after taking a 16-0 lead into the locker room, but McCaffrey closed it out with an 18-yard run to pick up a game-sealing first down. His immense volume as both a rusher and pass-catcher give McCaffrey arguably the highest fantasy floor in the league, and he'll remain a set-and-forget RB1 against the Saints in Week 2.

  • Colts' Jonathan Taylor: Compiles 116 total yards in loss

Taylor rushed 17 times for 56 yards and brought in six of seven targets for 60 yards in the Colts' 28-16 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.

As his final line indicates, Taylor found running room mostly to be at a premium against a stingy Seahawks front. However, his reception tally drew even with that of backfield mate Nyheim Hines', while his receiving yardage total paced Indianapolis. In particular, Taylor's overall usage was encouraging, considering Hines' relatively robust workload of nine carries largely was a byproduct of game script, and Taylor was just as involved as a receiver as his teammate. Taylor and his fantasy manager now will hope for a more favorable game script in a Week 2 matchup against the Rams.

  • J.J. Taylor RB | HOU

    Patriots' J.J. Taylor: Inactive Sunday

Taylor is inactive for Sunday's season opener against the Dolphins.

With Taylor inactive Sunday, Damien Harris, James White, Rhamondre Stevenson and Brandon Bolden are in line to handle the Patriots' Week 1 backfield duties. Taylor figures to enter the team's lineup down the road, however, once injuries hit.

  • Nate McCrary RB | GB

Broncos' Nate McCrary: Inactive for Week 1

McCrary (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Giants.

McCrary is not carrying an injury designation, so the backup running back is simply a healthy scratch. His next chance to make his season debut comes Week 2 at Jacksonville.

  • Saquon Barkley RB | PHI

Giants' Saquon Barkley: Back in action

Barkley (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Broncos, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

As Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reported on Saturday, Barkley will make his first appearance since tearing the ACL and MCL in his right knee Week 2 of last season. But it appears as if his workload will be capped, as Ian Rapoport of NFL Network noted Sunday morning that Barkley will be eased into things with Giants kicking off the campaign with two games in five days. As a result, Barkley likely won't approach the 20.8 touches per game that he handled through the first three years of his career. Devontae Booker and rookie Gary Brightwell are on hand for any reps that don't go to Barkley.

  • 49ers' Raheem Mostert: Will not return to Sunday's game

Mostert (knee) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Lions, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.

The knee injury Mostert suffered in the first half of Sunday's game will prevent him from seeing any more action in Week 1, so Elijah Mitchell and JaMycal Hasty will split the carries for the remainder of the day. The extent of Mostert's injury is not yet known, but head coach Kyle Shanahan figures to provide some sort of update after the game concludes.

  • Rashaad Penny RB | CAR

Seahawks' Rashaad Penny: Hurts calf Sunday

Penny injured his left calf during Sunday's game at Indianapolis.

Penny tended to a calf injury during Week 1 prep, logging limited showings Wednesday and Thursday before capping it with a full practice. But the injury resurfaced Sunday, which has been the story of his three-plus years in the league. Behind clear top back Chris Carson, the Seahawks have Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas at the ready for backfield reps.

  • 49ers' Raheem Mostert: Questionable to return

Mostert (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Lions, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

This isn't a promising sign for the 49ers, as they're already quite thin in terms of depth at running back. Elijah Mitchell and JaMycal Hasty are expected to gain a bigger role if Mostert is unable to return to action in the contest, given that Trey Sermon is inactive Sunday.

  • D'Andre Swift RB | CHI

Lions' D'Andre Swift: Williams labeled Week 1 starter

Jamaal Williams was announced as the Lions' starting running back over Swift Sunday against the 49ers, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.

It remains to be seen how this plays out, but the resulting box score/snaps counts will be worth monitoring to see how the Lions' RB backfield workload shakes out in Week 1. Swift -- who is bouncing back from a groin injury -- was not among Detroit's inactives Sunday.

  • Lions' Jamaal Williams: Gets surprise Week 1 start

The Lions introduced Williams as their starting running back for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Additionally, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network relays that Williams is expected to "carry the load" for the Lions in terms of both snaps and touches, even though D'Andre Swift is active for the contest. Because Swift recently overcame a groin injury, the Lions are likely just being cautious with him in Week 1, but he's eventually expected to serve as the team's top option out of the backfield once the injury is in the rear-view mirror. At least for the season opener, however, Williams should be in line for some added fantasy value while he takes on a heavier workload.
