  • Panthers' Chuba Hubbard: Finds end zone twice in Week 1 loss

Hubbard carried the ball 10 times for 49 yards and a touchdown and caught all three of his targets for 38 yards and another score in Sunday's 59-37 loss to the Bears.

In the highest-scoring Week 1 game in NFL history, Hubbard did his part to keep Carolina competitive, opening the scoring with a four-yard grab in the first quarter and adding a two-yard TD plunge in the third. Hubbard also out-paced Jonathon Brooks in touch volume, getting 13 to the younger back's five as he tightened his grip on the No. 1 spot on the depth chart. Hubbard will look to stay productive in Week 2 on the road against the Falcons.

  • Panthers' Chuba Hubbard: Not listed on injury report

Hubbard (hamstring) was not listed on the Panthers' injury report Wednesday.

Hubbard dealt with a hamstring injury last month but has been practicing since the calendar flipped to September. With Jonathon Brooks dealing with soreness in his groin for the past week and limited in practice, Hubbard looks like the frontrunner for carries and touches out of the Carolina backfield to open the season. He's shaping up as a low-end RB2 against Chicago on Sunday.

  • Panthers' Chuba Hubbard: Returns to practice Tuesday

Hubbard (hamstring) returned to practice Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

The running back may not end up being a full participant, but he's on the field with his helmet as the session gets underway. Hubbard has been hampered by a hamstring injury since mid-August but has been progressing well, and he's trending in the right direction to be ready for Week 1.

  • Panthers' Chuba Hubbard: Remains on track for Week 1

Hubbard (hamstring) remains on track for Week 1, according to Steve Reed of the Associated Press.

It was reported earlier in August that Hubbard was on track to suit up for Carolina's season opener, and per head coach Dave Canales he remains on track to do so. Should Hubbard suit up for Week 1 as anticipated, he and Jonathon Brooks will work in a committee, per Joe Person of The Athletic.

  • Panthers' Chuba Hubbard: Coach confident regarding RB's Week 1 status

Head coach Dave Canales said Thursday that he's confident Hubbard (hamstring) will be available for the Panthers' regular-season opener against the Bears, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Canales revealed earlier Thursday that Hubbard is considered week-to-week due to a hamstring injury, but the head coach's clarification after Thursday's practice comes as a relief to Hubbard's prospective fantasy managers. Hubbard -- who had an MRI after feeling something grab in his hamstring during Wednesday's practice -- had originally been slated to work with Carolina's starters in Saturday's preseason opener against the Bills, but he will instead sit out while Jonathon Brooks will start, with Trevor Etienne and AJ Dillon also mixing in at running back.

  • Panthers' Chuba Hubbard: Week-to-week with hamstring issue

Hubbard (hamstring) is considered week-to-week, head coach Dave Canales revealed Thursday, Mike Kaye of ESPN.com reports.

Hubbard had been practicing without limitations but evidently sustained a hamstring injury in the lead-up to Carolina's second preseason game against the Bills on Saturday. The 27-year-old running back is unlikely to suit up during the preseason based on this timetable, and Hubbard's availability for the Sept. 13 regular-season opener will need to be monitored ahead of Week 1. Jonathon Brooks had been gaining momentum in Carolina's backfield competition even prior to Hubbard's injury. The Panthers also have Trevor Etienne, AJ Dillon, Anthony Tyus and Miles Davis in the backfield.

  • Panthers' Chuba Hubbard: Set to share backfield in 2026

Hubbard appears likely to operate in a committee with third-year pro Jonathon Brooks in the Panthers' backfield this season, Ben Cooper of Roundtable Sports reports.

Hubbard slotted in behind Rico Dowdle at running back with Carolina in 2025, notching just 511 rushing yards and one touchdown, the latter of which was a career low, over 134 carries in 15 regular-season contests. With Dowdle heading to Pittsburgh via free agency this offseason, Hubbard seemed likely to return to being the Panthers' RB1 in 2026, but he may not run away with the job. Jonathon Brooks is entering his third season in the league, but he has missed all but three contests during his first two campaigns while recovering from a pair of ACL injuries. Brooks was selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and Hubbard is expected to split reps with the 23-year-old this season, likely ceding the majority of snaps to the youngster in clear passing situations. Hubbard has the more proven track record, but he'll have to prove that his disappointing 2025 campaign was just an anomaly, or he'll likely have a limited ceiling from a fantasy perspective again this season.
