  • Melvin Gordon RB | BAL

Broncos' Melvin Gordon: Should suit up Sunday

Gordon (hip), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Raiders, is expected to play, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Gordon was limited in practices Thursday and Friday, but the running back's hip issue doesn't look as though it will prevent him from continuing to share backfield work with rookie Javonte Williams. Confirmation of Gordon's Week 6 status will arrive once Denver's inactive list is posted in advance of Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Lions' Jamaal Williams: Expected to play Sunday

Hockenson (hip/illness), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bengals, is expected to play, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Williams has been nursing the hip issue for the past couple weeks, while the ailment prevented him from practicing Thursday. He was back on the field Friday in a limited capacity, so he looks like he'll be ready to go for the Week 6 matchup, working in tandem with D'Andre Swift (groin) in the Detroit backfield.

  • Football Team's Antonio Gibson: Expected to play Sunday

Gibson (shin), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Chiefs, is expected to play, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

For the third week in a row, Gibson is questionable with a shin fracture, but he's expected to once agin play through the injury. Still, fantasy managers will want to ensure he avoids Washington's inactive list, which will be released approximately 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott: Expected to play

Elliot (ribs), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots, is expected to play, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Elliot was limited in practice during the week after landing on a camera pylon on the sideline during last week's win over the Giants. He was similarly limited in practice heading into that game, but wound up rushing for 110 yards on a season-high 21 carries, so there's precedent for the Cowboys leaning on him heavily even when he's banged up.

  • Titans' Jeremy McNichols: Listed as questionable

McNichols (ankle) is listed as questionable for Monday's contest against the Bills, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

McNichols registered back-to-back DNPs ahead of Monday's prime-time matchup, but the questionable designation does at least afford him the chance to play. More information regarding his status and the possible return of Darrynton Evans (knee) should arrive well before the 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff Monday.

  • Mike Boone RB | MIA

Broncos' Mike Boone: On track to play

Boone (quadriceps) was activated off injured reserve Saturday and is expected to play Sunday against the Raiders, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.

It'll be interesting to see how much playing time Boone syphons away from Melvin Gordon (hip) and Javonte Williams given the duo has operated in a 55-45 split to date. Signed this offseason as a change-of-pace option, Boone figures to be more of a reserve depth piece unless one of the aforementioned players suffers an injury.

  • Samaje Perine RB | CIN

Bengals' Samaje Perine: Not playing Sunday

Perine was not activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list and thus will not be eligible to play Sunday against the Lions.

Perine needed to be activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday in order to have a shot at playing. Instead the team opted to elevate Trayveon Williams from the practice squad with the intention of him acting as Joe Mixon's (ankle) primary backup. Perine saw a season-high 11 carries in the Week 5 loss to the Packers, but that workload was largely due to Mixon's ankle sprain and is not expected to translate to Williams with Mixon on the mend.

  • Spencer Brown RB | ATL

Panthers' Spencer Brown: Joins Carolina backfield

Brown was elevated from the practice squad Saturday, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports.

Brown is slated to back up Chuba Hubbard and Royce Freeman after the Panthers announced Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) was shifting to injured reserve Saturday. The undrafted free agent beat out Trenton Cannon, Rodney Smith and Reggie Bonnafon for a depth back role after a solid preseason.

  • Chuba Hubbard RB | CAR

Panthers' Chuba Hubbard: Lead back for foreseeable future

Hubbard is expected to operate as the lead running back for at least the next three weeks after Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.

It's obviously a disappointing development for McCaffrey, who had already been ruled out ahead of the Week 6 contest, but Hubbard fantasy managers have to be giddy about the guaranteed workload, especially with three straight matchups against inferior defensive talent on tap. The rookie fourth-round pick has certainly lived up to the billing as a top-tier backup, accumulating 284 total yards on 58 touches since taking over for the injured McCaffrey in Week 3. While the Panthers will likely sign or elevate another running back from the practice squad in short order, it's hard to imagine anyone threatening Hubbard's workload at the moment.

  • Panthers' Christian McCaffrey: Shifts to IR

McCaffrey (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.

In hindsight, it's hard not to view last week's injury designation as a troubling omen. McCaffrey reportedly made it through Friday's Week 5 practice without any setbacks only to mysteriously be listed as doubtful for the aforementioned contest, ultimately missing last week's loss to the Eagles. Coach Matt Rhule seemed to have some optimism his star back would be available this week against the Vikings, only to see those hopes essentially dashed by back-to-back practice DNPs. While this latest development is obviously crushing for fantasy managers, it does take a bit of the guesswork out of McCaffrey's health status and ensures the multi-talented threat will have plenty of time to rehab what's obviously a lingering hamstring issue. McCaffrey will be eligible to make a return Week 9 against the Patriots, but until then expect Chuba Hubbard to continue operating as the lead back.
