  • Chiefs' Clyde Edwards-Helaire: Feeling sick Wednesday

Edwards-Helaire isn't practicing Wednesday due to an illness, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.

Edwards-Helaire still has plenty of time to rest up and recover from the ailment before the Chiefs play in Jacksonville on Sunday. In Kansas City's Week 1 loss to Detroit, Edwards-Helaire recorded six carries for 22 yards and one catch for seven yards while working behind Isiah Pacheco along with Jerick McKinnon.

  • Eagles' Kenneth Gainwell: Appears likely to sit Week 2

Gainwell (ribs) appears to be trending toward sitting out Thursday's game against the Vikings, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

The Eagles will provide an official gameday designation for Gainwell following Wednesday's practice, but his chances of playing Thursday don't appear promising after he was listed as a non-participant on practice reports Monday and Tuesday. Gainwell will likely need to log at least limited activity Wednesday to have hope of playing Week 2. He served as the lead option for Philadelphia's backfield Week 1, so an absence from Gainwell would spell increased opportunities for D'Andre Swift and Boston Scott, who handled depth roles in the win over New England. Rashaad Penny, who was inactive Week 1, would also likely dress Thursday if Gainwell sits and could factor into the Eagles' rushing attack.

  • Breece Hall RB | NYJ

Jets' Breece Hall: Starts week with limited practice

Hall (knee) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.

Hall will likely be a mainstay on the injury report in the first few weeks of the season as the Jets ease him back from the ACL tear he suffered last October, but the injury didn't inhibit his effectiveness in Monday's 22-16 win over the Bills. He racked up 109 yards on his first two carries and finished with 147 scrimmage yards on 11 touches. Hall is likely to earn more touches moving forward, and Wednesday's limited participation isn't indicative of a setback ahead of Sunday's game in Dallas.

  • Bills' Latavius Murray: Modest role in team debut

Murray rushed two times for eight yards and caught one of two targets for nine yards in Monday's 22-16 overtime loss to the Jets.

Starter James Cook saw 59 percent of the offensive snaps, but Murray actually saw more work than teammate Damien Harris, getting a 23 percent share to Harris' 13 percent. Harris was presumed to have some fantasy value this year in Buffalo due to his likely goal-line use, but Murray is no slouch in the red zone either with 55 career rushing touchdowns. It looks like the Bills are going to run their offense through Cook and Josh Allen, so for now Murray and Harris don't offer much upside.

  • Tarik Cohen RB | NYJ

    Tarik Cohen: Signing with Carolina

Cohen is expected to be signed to the Panthers' practice squad Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Cohen worked out with the team Tuesday and he appears to have impressed Carolina enough to earn a shot with their practice squad. The running back hasn't appeared in an NFL contest since suffering a torn ACL in 2020, but when healthy, he's proven himself as a dual-threat option out of the backfield.

  • Jake Funk RB | JAC

Colts' Jake Funk: Joins 53-man roster

Indianapolis signed Funk to its active roster Tuesday ahead of Sunday's game at Houston.

The move comes in correspondence with placing fifth-round rookie Evan Hull (knee) on the injured reserve list. Presumed starter Zack Moss is dealing with a forearm injury, and change-of-pace man Deon Jackson has demonstrated a tendency to fumble the ball away, so Funk could very well be involved as early as Week 2.

  • Evan Hull RB | HOU

Colts' Evan Hull: Moving to injured reserve

The Colts placed Hull (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday.

With Jonathan Taylor (ankle) on the reserve/PUP list and Zack Moss (forearm) inactive this past Sunday against the Jaguars, Hull worked as Indianapolis' second running back behind Deon Jackson until he suffered a knee injury in the third quarter. Now that he's on IR, the 2023 fifth-round pick will be required to miss at least the next four games, meaning his next chance to suit up is a rematch with the Colts' Week 1 opponent on Oct. 15 at Jacksonville. While Hull and Taylor (ankle) are unavailable, Moss, Jackson and Jake Funk will make up the team's backfield.

  • Tarik Cohen RB | NYJ

Tarik Cohen: Has tryout with Panthers

Cohen worked out for Carolina on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Cohen is finally 100 percent after suffering a torn ACL and then a torn Achilles along with numerous setbacks since he last played with the Bears in 2020. The 28-year-old had previously stated in August that he wanted to attempt a return to the NFL, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. If the workout is successful, and he ultimately signs, he'll likely be expected to start out on the team's practice squad.

  • J.K. Dobbins RB | DEN

Ravens' J.K. Dobbins: Officially makes way to IR

The Ravens officially placed Dobbins (Achilles) on injured reserve Tuesday, Clifton Brown of the team's official site reports.

This move is merely procedural after Dobbins tore his Achilles during the Ravens' Week 1 win against the Texans, thereby ending his campaign. Baltimore will move forward with some combination of Gus Edwards and Justice Hill out of the backfield, while Melvin Gordon is a candidate to be elevated from the practice squad.

  • Eagles' Kenneth Gainwell: Another DNP on Tuesday

Gainwell (ribs) was listed as a non-participant on Tuesday's practice estimate.

For a second consecutive day, Gainwell was held out of the Eagles' walkthrough, giving him just one more chance to log some activity ahead of Thursday's game against the Vikings. It's unclear if his current rib injury is threatening his availability for that contest, but Philadelphia at least boasts backfield depth in the event he is limited or out. In the team's Week 1 win at New England, Gainwell turned a 62 percent snap share into 18 touches for 74 yards from scrimmage, while D'Andre Swift played 28 percent of snaps en route to two touches, Boston Scott totaled two touches on 13 percent of snaps, and Rashaad Penny was a healthy scratch.
