Colt McCoy QB | ARI
Colt McCoy: Cut loose by Arizona
The Cardinals will release McCoy on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The Cardinals are left with Joshua Dobbs, Clayton Tune and David Blough as options to start Week 1 at Washington, as McCoy is no longer on the team and Kyler Murray (knee) is expected to be kept ineligible on the reserve/PUP list for at least the first four games. Schefter suggests Dobbs, a recent trade acquisition, is the favorite to start Week 1. McCoy, meanwhile, will turn 37 the first week of September and may struggle to find a backup quarterback job elsewhere.

Kyler Murray QB | MIN
Cardinals' Kyler Murray: In line to start season on PUP list
The Cardinals don't plan to activate Murray (knee) from the active/PUP list to begin the regular season, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Murray will officially switch to the reserve/PUP list at Tuesday's 4:00 p.m. ET deadline, with Arizona having decided not to activate him before then. Any player who begins the 2023 regular season on the reserve/PUP list must miss at least the first four games, meaning Murray won't be eligible to practice or play until Week 5 versus the Bengals, at the earliest. The decision isn't surprising , given that Murray has yet to retake the practice field since suffering a torn right ACL on Dec. 12 of last season. Meanwhile, coach Jonathan Gannon has yet to name a starter for Week 1's game against the Commanders. With Colt McCoy's release, recent trade acquisition Joshua Dobbs is likely the favorite to open the regular season under center, though rookie fifth-round pick Clayton Tune has been heavily involved in preseason work.

Will Levis QB | TEN
Titans' Will Levis: Expected to practice this week
Coach Mike Vrabel said Monday he expects Levis (thigh) to resume practicing this week, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Vrabel said the rookie second-round pick has done a good job maintaining focus despite sitting out Friday's preseason finale against the Patriots. Levis has spent the summer competing with Malik Willis for the No. 2 quarterback gig behind Ryan Tannehill.

Tanner Morgan QB | MIN
Tanner Morgan: Cut by Pittsburgh
The Steelers waived Morgan on Monday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.
Morgan won't stick with Pittsburgh's initial regular-season roster, but he could get a chance to continue his development via the team's practice squad. The undrafted rookie was underwhelming in limited preseason action.

Davis Mills QB | HOU
Texans' Davis Mills: Slated to back up Stroud
Coach DeMeco Ryans named C.J. Stroud the Texans' starting QB on Sunday, per Deepi Sidhu of the team's official site. As a result, Mills is slated to open the coming season as Houston's No. 2 signal-caller.
Though Stroud and Mills began training camp splitting first-team reps, Stroud (the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft) subsequently took them over, setting the stage for Sunday's announcement. Since entering the league as a third-rounder in 2021, Mills has logged 26 regular-season starts, including 15 last year, but he'll now move into a backup role behind the franchise's high-profile rookie QB.

Nate Sudfeld QB | SF
Lions' Nate Sudfeld: Torn ACL confirmed
Sudfeld (knee) will miss the 2023 season due to a torn ACL, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Sudfeld received a second opinion Monday, confirming the season-ending severity of the knee injury he suffered in Friday's preseason finale against the Panthers. With Sudfeld done for the year and Hendon Hooker (knee) still on the active/non-football injury list, Detroit becomes a strong candidate to add another healthy body to a quarterback room that currently only has undrafted rookie Adrian Martinez behind Jared Goff and Teddy Bridgewater

Nate Sudfeld QB | SF
Lions' Nate Sudfeld: Injury may be serious
Coach Dan Campbell declined to confirm Monday whether Sudfeld (knee) is dealing with a torn ACL and said the quarterback will receive a second opinion, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
Sudfeld was forced to depart Friday's preseason game early, and it appears that he may be dealing with a significant knee injury. More details about Sudfeld's recovery timetable should be made available after he receives a second opinion, but with Hendon Hooker (knee) still on the active/non-football injury list, UDFA Adrian Martinez is currently the Lions' only healthy option behind Jared Goff and Teddy Bridgewater.

Jameis Winston QB | NYG
Saints' Jameis Winston: Finishes preseason strong
Winston completed 11 of 16 pass attempts for 93 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's preseason finale against the Texans.
Winston continued his strong exhibition play as he prepares to back up Derek Carr (rest) in 2023. The 29-year-old found fellow veteran and former division rival Jimmy Graham in the end zone for the Saints' only touchdown Sunday. With Carr slated to start Week 1, Winston carries no fantasy value ahead of the Saints' home opener against Tennessee on Sunday, Sept. 10.

C.J. Stroud QB | HOU
Texans' C.J. Stroud: Officially named Week 1 starter
Coach DeMeco Ryans named Stroud the Texans' Week 1 starting quarterback after Sunday's preseason win over the Saints, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Stroud didn't see much volume during Sunday's preseason finale, but he completed two of four pass attempts for 16 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. The touchdown was his first of the preseason, and the rookie No. 2 overall pick will officially begin the 2023 season under center for Houston. In total, Stroud completed 11 of 20 passes for 89 yards, a touchdown and an interception over his three preseason games. Stroud has some rushing potential, but his 2023 fantasy upside is limited because he'll be running an offense that struggled last season while also playing under a first-year head coach.

C.J. Stroud QB | HOU
Texans' C.J. Stroud: Scores quick TD
Stroud completed two of four pass attempts for 16 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's preseason finale against New Orleans.
Stroud started Houston's first two offensive drives Sunday, finishing his brief appearance with a touchdown pass to Nico Collins after going three-and-out on the team's first possession. The promising rookie has been operating the first-unit offense all preseason despite not being officially named Week 1 starter by head coach DeMeco Ryans. Assuming this pattern holds true, Stroud will make his first regular-season start against the Ravens on Sept. 10.
