Buccaneers' Jake Browning: Still not ruled out for Friday
Coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday that Browning (back) could still play in Friday's preseason game against the Jets, Jeff Dubrof of WFLA News Channel 8 reports.
Browning strained his back during Tuesday's joint practice with the Jets, but there's apparently still a chance he could suit up for the Buccaneers' preseason opener. If he can't though, Connor Bazelak would figure to be Tampa Bay's starting signal caller Friday.

Buccaneers' Jake Browning: May not play Friday
Browning may not play in Friday's preseason game against the Jets due to a back injury, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
With Baker Mayfield not scheduled to play Friday, Browning was slated to serve as the team's starter, with Connor Bazelak and Jalon Daniels also in the mix for reps. However, Browning strained his back toward the tail end of Tuesday's joint practice with the Jets, which puts him in jeopardy of missing Friday's preseason opener.

Buccaneers' Jake Browning: Backing up the Bucs
Browning plans to sign a one-year deal with the Buccaneers, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
With starting quarterback Baker Mayfield taking quite a few hits last year, the Bucs are looking to bring in a tested backup. Browning played more than one offensive snap in four games for the Bengals during the 2025 season, totaling 757 passing yards and 6:8 TD:INT. The quarterback has started 10 games in his NFL career for a 4-6 record, adding a fifth win in Week 2 of the 2025 season when he passed 32 times against the Jaguars after Joe Burrow went down with a toe injury.

Jake Browning: Not tendered, will become UFA
Browning will become an unrestricted free agent March 11, as the Bengals are not tendering the restricted free-agent quarterback, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports.
Browning will test his market after making 10 regular-season starts for Cincinnati over the past three campaigns. Per Fowler, the Bengals are open to bringing Browning back, though Cincinnati benched Browning in favor of Joe Flacco while Joe Burrow was recovering from a toe injury during the 2025 season.
