Jayden Daniels QB | WAS
Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Expected to sit Friday
Daniels and other starters aren't expected to play in Friday's preseason game against the Patriots, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
Daniels won't see action in the preseason opener but could get some reps Aug. 18 against the Bengals or Aug. 23 against the Ravens. Marcus Mariota (lower leg) didn't travel with the team to New England, leaving Josh Johnson and Sam Hartman to split quarterbacks reps Friday.

Shedeur Sanders QB | CLE
Browns' Shedeur Sanders: Should play around 50 snaps
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Friday that Sanders will play about 50 snaps in Friday's preseason opener against Carolina, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
With Joe Flacco being rested while Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel nurse hamstring injuries, the Browns are left with only Sanders and recent signing Tyler Huntley to play QB on Friday. Stefanski said the rookie will play most of the game, with Huntley apparently scheduled to only come in toward the end. It's a nice opportunity for Sanders, although he'll presumably be surrounded by fellow backups, and possibly facing Carolina's defensive starters on the first drive or two.

Hendon Hooker QB | TEN
Lions' Hendon Hooker: Starting second preseason game
Hooker will start Friday's preseason game against the Falcons, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Hooker is competing with Kyle Allen for the top backup spot behind Jared Goff, who will get the night off. Allen started and played the first half of the Hall of Fame Game against the Chargers, while Hooker mustered just 18 passing yards and an interception in the second half of that 34-7 preseason loss. Hooker will likely get the first half of Friday's game.

Tyler Shough QB | NO
Saints' Tyler Shough: Looks sharp with first-team offense
Shough took most of the first-team reps Thursday and looked sharp during practice, according to SI.com's Gilberto Manzano.
Reports from Saints training camp suggest Spencer Rattler has gotten more work with the starters this summer, including during a scrimmage this past Sunday. Thursday's practice marks a step in the right direction for Shough, who still has time to make his case for the Week 1 starting job. Saints coach Kellen Moore hasn't announced how he'll divide QB reps during Sunday's preseason opener against the Chargers.

Jared Goff QB | DET
Lions' Jared Goff: Not slated to play Friday
Goff is not in line to play in Friday's preseason contest against the Falcons, Christian Romo of the Detroit Free Press reports.
With Goff, who also didn't play in last Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Chargers, not slated to see action versus Atlanta, the report notes that Hendon Hooker is set to play the first half Friday, with Kyle Allen on track to play in the second half. Goff is entrenched as the Lions' starting QB ahead of Week 1, but according to Tim Twentyman of the team's official site, Hooker and Allen are in a close competition to back up Goff.

Anthony Richardson QB | IND
Colts' Anthony Richardson: May practice Saturday
Richardson (finger) could return to practice as soon as Saturday, Stephen Holder of ESPN reports.
Richardson sustained a dislocated right pinkie finger during Thursday night's preseason opener, but Holder notes the Colts medical staff was able to pop the joint back into place and the QB began testing his ability to grip a football in the hope of returning to the contest. With Richardson's subsequent X-rays having come up negative, it looks he has a chance to practice Saturday, a scenario that would allow him to continue competing with fellow signal-caller Daniel Jones for the team's Week 1 starting assignment.

Caleb Williams QB | CHI
Bears' Caleb Williams: Not scheduled to play Sunday
Williams isn't scheduled to play in Sunday's preseason game against the Dolphins, per CHGO Sports.
This likely means most of Chicago's projected starters will be held out, although we figure to see them at least once this preseason as they continue learning coach Ben Johnson's playbook. With Williams held out, Tyson Bagent or Case Keenum figures to get the start Sunday.

Anthony Richardson QB | IND
Colts' Anthony Richardson: X-rays come back clean
Richardson's X-rays on his dislocated finger came back clean Thursday night, and he's expected to return to practice "in the coming days," NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.
Richardson was injured while taking a sack in the first quarter of Thursday's preseason opener against the Ravens. He was immediately removed and ruled out for the remainder of the exhibition, but it sounds like Richardson has avoided any serious issues. However, any missed practice time will allow Daniel Jones to soak up all of the reps with the first-team offense, as Jones and Richardson continue to battle for the starting job. Richardson has been one of the most injury-prone quarterbacks in the league since entering the NFL as the No. 4 overall pick of the 2023 Draft. Both Richardson and Jones are good bets to make multiple starts each in 2025.

Jalen Milroe QB | SEA
Seahawks' Jalen Milroe: Minimal passing production in debut
Milroe completed six of 10 passes for 61 yards while rushing three times for 38 yards in Thursday's 23-23 preseason tie against the Raiders.
Milroe played the entire second half after Drew Lock played the first half. The rookie third-round pick's muted passing performance in his NFL debut suggests he may not be ready to challenge Sam Darnold or Lock for one of the top two spots on the depth chart, though Milroe put his rushing ability on display with a 27-yard run in the fourth quarter. Milroe will likely see significant action against the Chiefs on Aug. 15 in Seattle's second preseason game.

Drew Lock QB | SEA
Seahawks' Drew Lock: One TD, one INT in preseason start
Lock completed 12 of 22 passes for 147 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Thursday's 23-23 preseason tie against the Raiders. He added three rushing attempts for four yards.
Lock got the start Thursday and played the entire first half with Seattle resting new starting quarterback Sam Darnold. The veteran backup bounced back from an interception on the opening drive to lead a touchdown drive on the next possession. Lock added a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tory Horton in the second quarter. Rookie third-round pick Jalen Milroe played the entire second half but finished with only 61 passing yards. Milroe is viewed as a raw prospect and seems to be behind Lock in the battle for the second spot on the depth chart, though avoiding turnovers will nonetheless be a point of emphasis for Lock in the team's second preseason game against the Chiefs on Aug. 15.
