Hackenberg was let go by the Eagles on Friday, Matt Lombardo of the New Jersey Star-Ledger reports.

Even with Carson Wentz (knee) and Nick Foles struggling through injuries all preseason, Hackenberg was unable to carve out a backup position. The 2016 second-rounder moves on from his third team of the offseason after being traded by the Jets and cut by the Raiders. Hackenberg will be an unrestricted free agent if he clears waivers.

Smith is expected to be named the backup quarterback after a preseason battle for the role with Cardale Jones, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports.

The 2013 second-round pick completed four of his six attempts for 16 yards in Thursday's 23-21 preseason win over the 49ers; hardly eye-popping totals, but the performance was evidently enough to solidify Smith's position as the No. 2 QB on the depth chart. Smith would be an intriguing fantasy option situated alongside a plethora of talented weapons such as Keenan Allen and Melvin Gordon, but given Philip Rivers has never missed a game since taking over as the starter 13 years ago, it's somewhat unlikely he'll get that opportunity in 2018.

Driskel was 14-for-20 for 116 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale.

Veteran backup Matt Barkley got hurt early in this one, but Driskel has had a better run than him against similar competition over the preseason. We'll see if the Bengals seek out a veteran improvement to be Andy Dalton's backup or are willing to ride it out with Driskel.

Jackson completed nine of 15 passes for 109 yards and took three carries for 25 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale against Washington.

Jackson played the entire first half and led the Ravens to 13 points on five drives. He's looked much better as a passer the last two weeks, after completing just 11 of 28 attempts through the first two games of the preseason. He finishes the exhibition slate 34-of-68 passing for 408 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, with 23 carries for 136 yards and three more scores. The completion rate (50.0) is far below NFL standards, but the Ravens didn't have any trouble scoring points when Jackson was on the field. The rookie has a real shot to open the season as Baltimore's No. 2 QB ahead of Robert Griffin.

Dobbs completed eight of 12 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown and took three carries for 18 yards and another touchdown in Thursday's preseason game against Carolina.

Dobbs got the start and led the Steelers to 17 points on four drives, finishing the preseason completing 29 of 43 passes for 434 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions, while also rushing 10 times for 64 yards and another score. He did his best to push Landry Jones out of a roster spot, but the Steelers may instead try to find a trade partner for the 2017 fourth-round pick.

Mayfield completed nine of 16 passes for 138 yards during Thursday's preseason game in Detroit.

Mayfield played the entire first half and led the Browns to 17 points on five drives. He completed 35 of 61 passes (57.4 percent) for 501 yards (8.2 YPA) this preseason, with two touchdowns, an interception and 11 carries for 34 yards. Tyrod Taylor will get the Week 1 start, but Mayfield's solid work in August may leave the 29-year-old on a short leash.

Brissett completed eight of 12 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown while playing two drives during Thursday's preseason game in Cincinnati.

Brissett's first drive ended with a Robert Turbin fumble and the second ended with a two-yard touchdown pass to WR Zach Pascal. A high-end backup quarterback is more valuable on a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations, but the Colts have made it clear they'd need to be blown away by an offer to even consider trading the 24-year-old. The calculus might change next offseason when Brissett is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Barkley has been ruled out of Thursday's preseason game against the Colts due to a left knee injury, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Barkley suffered the injury on a roughing the passer penalty, per Jay Morrison of The Athletic Cincinnati, and limped to the sideline and soon after the locker room. Penciled in as Andy Dalton's backup, Barkley is the Bengals' only reserve quarterback with NFL experience, though Jeff Driskel was making a good push in the preseason at unseating Barkley, so they could be in the market for a signal-caller in the coming days. For the time being, Driskel and Logan Woodside are the remaining QBs on the roster.

Winston won't take the field for Thursday's preseason game versus the Jaguars, Greg Auman of The Athletic Tampa Bay reports.

Winston will head into the regular season with an impressive line from three exhibitions -- 30-for-41 passing for 388 yards and three touchdowns versus no interceptions -- but a three-game suspension awaits him. While he's away from the team, Ryan Fitzpatrick will helm the Buccaneers offense. Winston is eligible to return Sunday, Sept. 30 at Chicago.

Allen will likely see a good chunk of reps under center for the Buccaneers in the preseason finale Thursday against the Jaguars, the Buccaneers' official site reports.

With the top three spots on the depth chart essentially settled, Allen is expected to get a long look from the coaching staff before the team begins making cuts to the roster before Saturday's deadline.
