Savage is likely on the wrong side of the roster bubble after the Saints acquired quarterback Teddy Bridgewater from the Jets on Wednesday, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Savage, Taysom Hill and J.T. Barrett spent all preseason battling for the backup gig behind Drew Brees, but none of them will get the job after New Orleans doled out a third-round draft pick for Bridgewater. If the Saints are to carry a third quarterback on the roster this season, the smart money is on it being Hill, who has proven himself as a valuable special-teams asset after recording four tackles in the final five weeks of the 2017 campaign and a blocked punt in the Saints' divisional-round playoff loss to the Vikings.

Allen is expected to play the first half of Thursday's preseason finale, Myles Simmons of the team's official site reports.

Allen figures to have cemented his place as the Rams' No. 3 quarterback. The only issue for Allen is the possibility of Los Angeles going with just two quarterbacks into the regular season. In some ways, Thursday will serve as a tryout for Allen -- if not for the Rams, then for 31 other potential suitors.

Darnold appears poised to open the upcoming season as the Jets' starting quarterback, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The Jets have yet to officially confirm that Darnold will be their Week 1 starter, but the rookie's claim to the top job was strengthened after Teddy Bridgewater was dealt to the Saints on Wednesday. The 39-year-old Josh McCown served as the team's primary starter under center in 2017 and performed capably in that capacity, but he seems likely to transition to a backup gig with Darnold demonstrating in practices and in exhibition play that he's ready for the No. 1 role.

The Jets agreed Wednesday to trade Bridgewater and a future sixth-round draft pick to the Saints in exchange for a future third-round pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

With Sam Darnold making a strong case for the starting job and Josh McCown also on their roster, the Jets were always inclined to explore trade options for Bridgewater, who boosted his value by completing 28 of 38 passes for 316 yards with two touchdowns and one interception this preseason. The 25-year-old isn't exactly getting the opportunity he probably had been hoping for, as he'll be stuck behind Drew Brees in New Orleans this season. It's unclear if the Saints view Bridgewater as a potential long-term successor or merely a one-year insurance policy. Whatever the case, Bridgewater is signed to a one-year, $6 million contract, of which at least $500,000 has already been paid by the Jets.

Rodgers and the Packers agreed Wednesday to a four-year, $134 million contract extension, James Jones of The NFL Network reports.

Rodgers' contract status was a frequent topic of discussion during the offseason, but he recently expressed optimism that a new deal would get done when needed. According to Jones, the contract includes over $100 million in guaranteed money, with Adam Schefter of ESPN relaying that the deal could be worth up to $180 million in total. With the new contract in hand, Rodgers remains tied to the Packers for the foreseeable future, and chances are it keeps him in Green Bay until he decides to hang up his cleats at some point well down the road.

Boyle, an impressive surprise throughout the preseason, is expected to make the 53-man roster, Michael Cohen of The Athletic Wisconsin reports.

The Packers offered Boyle a vote of confidence following the decision to ship Brett Hundley off to Seattle. Boyle's impressive preseason appears to have placed the league on notice with multiple reports surfacing suggesting that Boyle would be claimed off waivers should the Packers opt to waive the 23-year-old. With a surge of added value over the past month, Green Bay reportedly feels inclined to keep Boyle around for the time being.

McGough is likely headed for the practice squad after the Seahawks traded for Brett Hundley on Wednesday, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Seattle apparently wasn't too impressed with the backup quarterback battle between McGough and veteran Austin Davis, thus motivating the front office to bring in Hundley behind starter Russell Wilson. McGough, a rookie seventh-round pick, should at least stick with the organization on the practice squad once the preseason ends, though he'll need to clear waivers beforehand. There remains a possibility, however, that the team could carry three quarterbacks until Hundley has a strong grasp of the playbook.

Goff won't play Thursday's preseason finale against the Saints, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.

Goff didn't need to prove anything, but it's odd he wasn't used at all this preseason. Fantasy owners should be itching to see how well Goff and Brandin Cooks jell in a live game. Nevertheless, the third-year pro will be ready to take on Oakland in the season opener and look top his Pro Bowl performance from last year.

Garoppolo will sit out of Thursday's preseason finale against the Chargers, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports.

Garoppolo brought an instant spark to the aching 49ers last season and is a lock to be their Week 1 starter, so there's no use in pushing him further. He played in three exhibition contests, completing 22 of 37 passes for 307 yards, one touchdown and one interception. C.J. Beathard will start in his place.

Beathard will start Thursday's preseason game against the Chargers, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports.

Jimmy Garoppolo will wear street clothes during the exhibition finale. Beathard is the clear-cut No. 2 QB in San Francisco, and he'll mostly play against and with depth players Thursday. The 23-year-old is still a project for the Niners after he played seven games last year, completing 55 percent of his passes for 1,430 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions.
