Keenum will start Thursday's preseason contest against the Bengals, Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post reports.

With Colt McCoy again ruled out for exhibition action due to lingering effects from his broken right fibula, Keenum is closing in on securing the starting quarterback gig for Week 1, according to Rick Snider of The Washington Post. Keenum didn't exactly light it up in the first exhibition last week, completing four of nine passes for 60 yards and one touchdown. Nonetheless, Keenum's veteran status appears to be more favorable in coach Jay Gruden's mind than trotting out 2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins to begin the season.

Coach Jay Gruden confirmed that McCoy (foot/leg) won't play in Thursday's preseason game versus the Bengals, Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post reports.

McCoy is still dealing with the residual effects of his fractured right fibula from the end of last season, which hasn't allowed him to practice much in training camp or suit up for the Redskins' first two exhibitions. If the starting quarterback race turns into Case Keenum versus Dwayne Haskins, the former likely has a leg up in light of his veteran status, at least to begin the campaign. The preceding is assuming McCoy remains in recovery mode, as he tops the team's most recent depth chart.

Beathard (thumb) participated in Wednesday's practice, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Beathard suffered a thumb injury during Saturday's game against the Cowboys, the severity of which kept him sidelined during Tuesday's practice. The third-year quarterback managed to return Wednesday, and will resume competing for the No. 2 quarterback role with Nick Mullens.

Trubisky wants to continue playing in preseason games but may not get another chance to do so, Nathan Smith of the Bears' official site reports. "It's not up to me," Trubisky said, regarding his preseason usage. "And I definitely believe in the big picture and whatever coach [Matt Nagy] believes in."

Trubisky handed off three times on three snaps in Chicago's preseason opener before turning things over to backups Chase Daniel and Tyler Bray. After the game, Nagy hinted at resting his starter for the remainder of the exhibition slate, believing Trubisky's work in practice is sufficient to get him ready for Week 1. A few reports have suggested that Trubisky is having a tough time against the star-studded Bears defense at training camp, but Nagy says his quarterback is "way past" where he was at the same time last year, per Tom Pelissero of NFL.com.

Keenum has emerged as the favorite to start for the Redskins in Week 1 against the Eagles, Rick Snider of The Washington Post reports.

Hoffman also relays that McCoy had an ugly week of practice prior to being held out of last week's preseason opener against Cleveland. Washington's depth chart still has McCoy in the No. 1 spot at quarterback, but that seems to be a matter of deferring to a familiar veteran rather than a realistic prediction about which player has the best odds to start the regular-season opener. McCoy's continued struggles with foot and leg injuries have freed up extra practice reps for Dwayne Haskins and Case Keenum, with the latter now holding an edge for the Week 1 job, according to both Hoffman and Rick Snider of The Washington Post.

Driskel saw reps at wide receiver and punt returner in Tuesday's practice, Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reports.

Ryan Finley is going to get the No. 2 role in Thursday's preseason game against Washington and might be the favorite to beat out Driskel as the backup, so Driskel is trying to find other ways to contribute to the team.

Coach Jon Gruden said Tuesday that Carr will play "a little" during Thursday's preseason contest against the Cardinals, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Carr sat out Saturday's tilt against the Rams, so Thursday will be his first preseason action of 2019. This sixth-year quarterback will have a slew of new offensive weapons at his disposal this season, including wideouts Antonio Brown (foot) and Tyrell Williams, and rookie running back Josh Jacobs. Carr may be without his premier receiver during the preseason, according to Scott Bair of NBC Sports Bay Area, but is expected to have Brown back by Week 1.

Beathard did not practice Tuesday after suffering a thumb injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Cowboys, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Beathard had a solid outing Saturday, throwing for 141 yards, a touchdown and an interception, but he appears to have emerged with an injury. As of now, Beathard is unable to comfortably grip a football and will not be able to practice until he can.

Prescott turned down a contract offer from the Cowboys that included $30 million per year, Jane Slater of NFL Network reports.

Prescott is reportedly seeking a contract in the range of $40 million per year. The situation surrounding the 26-year-old quarterback's negotiations with the Cowboys is unusually complex, with Ezekiel Elliott holding out in the hope of earning a new contract and Amari Cooper (heel) entering a contract season. The Cowboys are facing a trio of key young players hoping to receive top-end compensation at their respective positions, with no immediate resolutions in sight.
