Williams completed two of five passes for 28 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Bears' 27-9 preseason loss to the Bengals on Saturday. The third-year signal-caller made his preseason debut and got his night started with back-to-back completions to Rome Odunze and Roschon Johnson, although the Bears accepted an illegal contact penalty that wiped out the latter play. Williams subsequently hit Colston Loveland for 10 yards during a possession that culminated in a Cairo Santos field goal following three straight incompletions. The uneven cameo appearance may well represent the extent of Williams' preseason action ahead of a Week 1 road matchup against the Panthers on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Williams is in uniform in advance of Saturday's preseason game in Cincinnati, Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune reports. After sitting out Chicago's exhibition opener, Williams now appears set to make his preseason debut. His participation is notable for the Bears' first-team offense, especially with WRs Rome Odunze and Kalif Raymond and TEs Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet also suited up.

Williams completed 20 of 33 passes for 212 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while rushing once for one yard in the Bears' 19-16 loss to the Lions on Sunday. He also threw a two-point conversion pass. Williams couldn't lead the Bears to any points in the first three quarters, but he helped Chicago's offense come alive in the fourth to make things interesting. Williams particularly had his connection with rookie tight end Colston Loveland clicking, as the latter was on the receiving end of 10 of Williams' completions, 91 receiving yards and one of his two touchdowns, from one yard out. Williams also connected with Jahdae Walker from 25 yards out early in the fourth quarter, finishing with a pair of TD tosses for the fifth straight game to close out the campaign. Williams undeniably took a step forward in his first season under the tutelage of head coach Ben Johnson while throwing for 3,942 yards and posting a 27:7 TD:INT, but he'll need to achieve more quarter-to-quarter consistency for the Bears to succeed in the postseason beginning with next weekend's home wild-card matchup against the Packers.

I had Williams as a start quarterback in Start 'Em & Sit 'Em for Week 17, and I wrote that it would be fun if Ben Johnson gave Williams the chance to become the first quarterback in franchise history to pass for 4,000 yards. He was 600 yards away prior to facing the 49ers, and he passed for a season-high 330 in San Francisco to make it possible in Week 18. Now, Williams gets the chance to do it against the Lions, who are No. 10 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, and three quarterbacks in the past six games against Detroit have passed for at least 366 yards. Williams scored 20.9 Fantasy points in Week 2 at Detroit, and he has scored at least 22.9 Fantasy points in three games in a row. The Bears have the chance to lock up the No. 2 seed in the NFC, and Williams should lead the way. He's a top-10 Fantasy quarterback in all leagues in Week 18.

Williams completed 25 of 42 pass attempts for 330 yards and two touchdowns while adding 18 rushing yards on five attempts in Sunday's 42-38 loss to San Francisco. Williams was engaged in a classic shootout with 49ers QB Brock Purdy (303 yards, five total TDs) with both signal-callers cracking the 300-yard mark while tossing multiple touchdowns. For Williams, it was the first time through 16 starts in 2025 in which he eclipsed 300 passing yards in a single game. The improving sophomore had an opportunity to throw a third score and win the game in the closing moments of Sunday Night Football, only to watch his pass come up a yard short of a fully extended Luther Burden (leg) in the end zone as time expired. Williams has now thrown multiple touchdown passes in four consecutive starts with an improved yardage total in each game. His recent hot streak coupled with a soft matchup against the Lions makes Williams a strong fantasy play in Week 18.
