Braves' Robert Suarez: Nursing tight forearm

Atlanta manager Walt Weiss said after Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Padres in 10 innings that Suarez wasn't available due to forearm tightness, Chad Bishop of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The injury explains why Atlanta didn't turn to Suarez and instead tried to get two innings out of closer Raisel Iglesias with the score tied late, a move that backfired in the 10th. Suarez last pitched Friday, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings and 28 pitches in a win over the Brewers. Weiss downplayed any concern about Suarez's forearm issue, noting that the right-hander could be ready to return to his usual high-leverage relief role in Wednesday's series finale.

  • George Kirby SP | SEA

Mariners' George Kirby: Back in win column Tuesday

Kirby (6-7) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks over six innings in a 3-2 victory over the Pirates. He struck out five.

The right-hander produced his ninth quality start of the season on 91 pitches (65 strikes), but it took a Cole Young two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to finally get Kirby back in the win column. He'd gone 0-5 over his prior six starts, stumbling to a 6.27 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 33:7 K:BB in 33 innings during the losing streak. With that monkey off his back, Kirby will look to build on Tuesday's performance in his next outing, which is set to come on the road this weekend in Cleveland.

  • Ben Malgeri RF | DET

Tigers' Ben Malgeri: Two hits in big-league debut

Malgeri went 2-for-3 with a run scored in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Yankees.

The 26-year-old got the start in right field and batted ninth in his big-league debut, and Malgeri seized the opportunity by singling in his first MLB plate appearance before coming around to score. Tuesday's start came against southpaw Carlos Rodon, and Malgeri is likely to find himself filling a short-side platoon role in Detroit's lefty-heavy outfield while he's up with the big club.

  • Casey Mize SP | DET

Tigers' Casey Mize: Fans six in Tuesday's loss

Mize (2-5) took the loss Tuesday as the Tigers fell 4-3 to the Yankees, giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

The right-hander was nursing a 2-1 lead until running out of gas in the sixth inning, with a two-run homer by Jazz Chisholm putting New York in the lead for good. Mize was lifted after 97 pitches (65 strikes), and while he has a 9:2 K:BB in 10.1 innings over two starts since recovering from adductor inflammation, little else has been going right for him. He hasn't won a game since April 22, producing a 0-4 record over his last six big-league starts despite a 3.38 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 26:4 K:BB in 29.1 innings. Mize will try to end that winless streak in his next trip to the mound, which is set to come at home this weekend against the Astros.

  • David Bednar RP | NYY

Yankees' David Bednar: Notches 15th save

Bednar tossed 1.1 perfect innings Tuesday to record his 15th save of the season in a 4-3 win over the Tigers. He didn't strike out a batter.

The veteran closer relied on weak contact to get the job done, tossing 14 of 17 pitches for strikes. Bednar has reeled off 10 straight scoreless appearances dating back to May 22, going 4-for-4 in save chances while adding a win over that span with a 0.64 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB in 11 innings.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Collects fourth win

Rodon (4-2) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over 5.1 innings in a 4-3 victory over the Tigers. He struck out five.

The veteran southpaw wasn't exactly efficient, getting pulled after 87 pitches (55 strikes) following back-to-back doubles by Dillon Dingler and Matt Vierling in the bottom of the sixth, but the Yankees' bullpen preserved the win for Rodon. He's won three straight starts and four straight decisions, and he has yet to allow more than three runs in a start since coming off the IL in early May. Rodon will take a 3.70 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 46:22 K:BB through 41.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in Boston.

  • Luis Urias 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Luis Urias: Goes yard in Jays debut

Urias went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 9-7 extra-innings loss to the Astros.

Starting at second base and batting seventh in his Blue Jays debut, Urias made an immediate impact when he took Peter Lambert deep in the fourth inning to get his new squad on the board. Urias had been posting big numbers for Triple-A Reno in the Diamondbacks' system to begin the season, but over the last three big-league campaigns, the 29-year-old infielder managed just a .213/.319/.337 slash line over 611 plate appearances while suiting up for four different teams. Urias has enough pop and positional versatility to find a role on the bench with Toronto, but he's unlikely to be a useful fantasy asset if he does receive consistent playing time.

  • Daulton Varsho CF | TOR

Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho: Bangs out three XBH on Tuesday

Varsho went 3-for-6 with two doubles, a two-run home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 9-7 extra-innings loss to the Astros.

The center fielder has been dialed in since returning from a wrist injury over the weekend. Over the last three games, Varsho has gone 5-for-14 with four extra-base hits (two doubles and two homers), four runs, five RBI and a steal. His seven home runs and 22 RBI in 67 contests this season are way off his 2025 pace, but Varsho still has time to heat up over the summer and avoid a disappointing campaign.

  • Tommy Troy LF | ARI

Diamondbacks' Tommy Troy: Moves to center field

Troy started in center field and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Tuesday's 4-3 win over St. Louis.

The Diamondbacks have rotated bodies in center field since Jordan Lawlar (hamstring) landed on the injured list. It was Troy's turn Tuesday after Jorge Barrosa and Tim Tawa took turns the last two days. Of the three, Troy has been the most impactful batter and could be the primary center fielder while Lawlar heals. Troy had mainly defended left field, but that's not a full-time option any longer with Lourdes Gurriel back from injury.

  • Kazuma Okamoto 3B | TOR

Blue Jays' Kazuma Okamoto: On base five times in loss

Okamoto went 3-for-4 with two walks, a run scored and three RBI in Tuesday's 9-7 extra-inning loss to the Astros.

His two-run single in the eighth inning looked like it might give Toronto the win, but the bullpen couldn't make a 6-4 lead stick. Okamoto has six hits and seven RBI in the last three games, continuing a June surge that has seen the 29-year-old third baseman deliver a .324/.397/.603 slash line over 19 games this month with five homers, 12 runs and 16 RBI.
