The Phillies placed Marchan (knee) on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to July 23.

After Marchan left Wednesday's game early against the Dodgers with left knee pain, Philadelphia officially transferred him to the IL on Friday. In 92 plate appearances, the 27-year-old has slashed .102/.141/.170 with just two homers and six RBI this season. The Phillies selected Payton Henry's contract from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill Marchan's spot on the active roster.

The Cubs recalled Triantos from Triple-A Iowa on Friday.

He's grabbing the roster spot vacated by Kevin Alcantara, who was optioned to Iowa. Triantos has slashed .306/.344/.440 with seven home runs, 18 stolen bases and a 20:44 BB:K this season and will be making his major-league debut when/if he gets into a game. The 23-year-old's versatility gives him multiple avenues to playing time, but everyday reps are unlikely.

The Royals optioned Morgan to Triple-A Omaha on Friday.

Morgan will make his way back to Triple-A after spending two weeks with the big-league club. The 30-year-old made just two appearances since being recalled July 10 with Kansas City. The Royals demoted Morgan to make room for Nate Pearson on the active roster.

McGonigle is out of the lineup for the Tigers' matchup against the Royals on Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Despite riding a six-game hitting streak since July 18, McGonigle will take the day off Friday. Zach McKinstry will man shortstop and bat seventh for Detroit.

Frelick was given a cortisone shot in his injured right shoulder Wednesday, Dominic Cotroneo of 620 WTMJ reports.

Frelick also had imaging this week, which did not reveal any new injury beyond a shoulder strain. After a period of rest, the outfielder will do strengthening exercises for his shoulder and rotator cuff. There is no timetable for his return, as the Brewers will wait for Frelick's symptoms to subside before he ramps up baseball activities. Andrew Vaughn has been the biggest playing-time beneficiary from Frelick's absence, drawing regular starts at first base while Jake Bauers plays right field, but it's Luis Lara who is getting the start in right field Friday against the Rockies.

Rodriguez (glute) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Aiden Stepansky of MLB.com reports.

Rodriguez has been sidelined for two-plus weeks with a left glute strain, but he has been cleared to test things out in game action. Because his absence has been brief, the 26-year-old shouldn't need many rehab at-bats before rejoining the active roster. Once reinstated, Rodriguez is likely to share catching duties with Henry Davis.

Waldschmidt is out of the lineup for Arizona's matchup against the Nationals on Friday.

After going 0-for-3 with a strikeout against the Cardinals on Thursday, Waldschmidt will get a day off for the second time in the last four games. Tim Tawa will take over in center field and bat ninth for Arizona.

Triple-A Norfolk activated Willems (hamstring) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Following a brief rehab assignment with High-A Frederick, Willems is back in Triple-A after missing about three weeks due to a left hamstring injury. The catcher is slashing .259/.358/.431 with 13 home runs, 42 RBI, and 32 runs scored over 103 plate appearances for Norfolk this season.

The Orioles recalled Walker from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

The 31-year-old acted as the 27th man during Wednesday's doubleheader against Boston before being returned to Triple-A, but Walker hasn't actually pitched in a big-league game since June 30. With Norfolk, the left-hander has posted a 3.73 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 34:10 K:BB in 31.1 innings.

Irish was placed on the 7-day injured list at High-A Frederick on Friday with a torn left meniscus, Steve Melewski of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Irish suffered the unfortunate injury on a slide into second base earlier this week. It concludes what was a terrific first full pro season for Irish, who slashed .286/.388/.528 with 16 home runs, 20 stolen bases and a 43:75 BB:K over 76 games with Frederick. Irish will likely move up to Double-A to start next season.
