Guardians' Chase DeLauter: Aiming to return on homestand

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said Monday that the team hopes DeLauter (rib) will be ready to return during its June 26-July 5 homestand, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Working his way back from a small fracture in his right rib cage, DeLauter has resumed hitting, running and throwing. Vogt does not have a specific target date for DeLauter's activation from the 10-day injured list, but it seems it could happen as soon as this weekend.

  • Jacob Gonzalez 1B | CHW

White Sox's Jacob Gonzalez: Exiting starting nine

Gonzalez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

Gonzalez will head to the bench while the White Sox go with Miguel Vargas and Colson Montgomery as their starters in the corner infield Monday. Since being called up from Triple-A Charlotte on May 30, the left-handed-hitting Gonzalez has mostly been spared from matchups with left-handed pitching but has still struggled to a .167/.273/.229 slash line over 55 plate appearances. Gonzalez will likely be headed back to Charlotte once Munetaka Murakami (hamstring) is ready to return from the injured list.

  • Steven Kwan CF | CLE

Guardians' Steven Kwan: Held out of lineup vs. lefty

Kwan is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.

Southpaw Anthony Kay is on the bump for the White Sox, so Kwan will retreat to the bench along with fellow left-handed batters Daniel Schneemann and Kahlil Watson. Kwan is batting a career-worst .206 on the season and has been especially brutal against left-handed pitching, slashing .171/.289/.211 over 90 plate appearances.

  • Kahlil Watson RF | CLE

Guardians' Kahlil Watson: Hitting bench against lefty

Watson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.

Southpaw Anthony Kay is on the bump for the White Sox, so Watson will retreat to the bench along with fellow left-handed batters Daniel Schneemann and Steven Kwan. Since being called up from Triple-A Columbus last Wednesday, Watson has gone 0-for-12 with eight strikeouts while drawing starts in four of six games.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Cubs' Matthew Boyd: Rejoining rotation this week

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Monday that Boyd (shoulder/knee) will return from the 15-day injured list to make his next start in the majors, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

As long as inclement weather doesn't force the Cubs to alter their rotation, Boyd appears poised to start Thursday's road game versus the Mets. The veteran left-hander has been shelved since early May, first due to meniscus surgery and later because of shoulder soreness. He's collected a 6.00 ERA and 31:6 K:BB over 24 innings covering five starts for the Cubs this season.

  • Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: Idle against southpaw

Schneemann is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.

Southpaw Anthony Kay is on the bump for the White Sox, so Schneemann will retreat to the bench along with fellow left-handed batters Kahlil Watson and Steven Kwan. Schneemann is coming off a rough weekend series in Houston, where he went 0-for-12 with seven strikeouts to bring his season average down to .213.

  • Jared Young 1B | NYM

Mets' Jared Young: Hitting bench with lefty starting

Young is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.

Young will head to the bench along with fellow left-handed batters MJ Melendez and Brett Baty while the Cubs send southpaw Shota Imanaga to the bump for the series opener. With Young taking a seat, Mark Vientos will pick up a start at first base and will bat fifth.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: On bench versus lefty

Baty is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.

Baty will head to the bench along with fellow left-handed batters MJ Melendez and Jared Young while the Cubs send southpaw Shota Imanaga to the bump for the series opener. With Baty taking a seat, Bo Bichette will shift over to third base and Zack Short will enter the lineup at shortstop.

  • Felix Bautista RP | BAL

Orioles' Felix Bautista: Ready for mound work

Bautista (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Andy Kostka of TheBanner.com reports.

It will be the first time Bautista has throwing off the mound since he underwent right shoulder surgery last August to repair a torn labrum and torn rotator cuff. The Orioles have not ruled out the possibility of Bautista rejoining the bullpen before the end of the season.

  • Liam Hicks C | MIA

Marlins' Liam Hicks: Awaiting MRI results on back

Hicks is awaiting MRI results on his injured lower back, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Hicks was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a lower-back strain, and the Marlins will have a better idea as to proceed with his rehab after the MRI results are in. Manager Clayton McCullough said Monday that Hicks feels improved but is "still stiff." The club could have more on Hicks' status later Monday.
