    Mariners' Matt Brash: Resumes throwing

Brash (lat) began playing catch Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

It's the first time Brash has done any kind of throwing since he landed on the injured list Friday with right lat inflammation. A clearer timeline for his return may begin to take shape once he progresses to throwing off a mound.

  • Yusei Kikuchi SP | LAA

Angels' Yusei Kikuchi: Shut down multiple weeks

Kikuchi (shoulder) will be shut down from throwing for 3-to-4 weeks, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.

The fact that the 34-year-old southpaw doesn't seem to need surgery makes it more likely that he returns before the end of the season, but it could still be a while before he appears on a big-league mound. The Angels plan to build Kikuchi up as a starter once he's cleared to begin a throwing program, and they may have a better picture of his return timeline once he progresses to that point.

  • Padres' Ramon Laureano: Resting Tuesday

Laureano is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Giants.

Laureano's struggles have continued into May, as he has started the first four games of the month 2-for-15 with six strikeouts. With the 31-year-old on the bench Tuesday, Nick Castellanos has the start in left field and is batting seventh.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Giants' Luis Arraez: Taking seat Tuesday

Arraez is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Arraez went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs in Monday's series opener but will hit the bench Tuesday after a run of 19 consecutive starts. Casey Schmitt is shifting to second base to open up a spot at designated hitter for top prospect Bryce Eldridge, who made his season debut Monday.

  • Brayan Rocchio SS | CLE

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Rocchio is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.

Rocchio started the previous 15 games but will hit the bench Tuesday while in the midst of a 5-for-25 slump. Daniel Schneemann will shift to shortstop while Rhys Hoskins enters the lineup at designated hitter for Cleveland.

  • Giants' Trevor McDonald: Heading back to Triple-A

The Giants optioned McDonald to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

McDonald tossed a seven-inning spot start Monday, allowing just one run on two hits and no free passes along with eight strikeouts. However, the top prospect is being sent back down to make room for Joel Peguero (hamstring), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

  • Joel Peguero RP | SF

Giants' Joel Peguero: Returns to Giants' bullpen

The Giants reinstated (hamstring) from the injured list Tuesday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Peguero has been on the injured list since the beginning of the season due to a Grade 2 hamstring strain he suffered during spring training. He started up a rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento on April 7 and will now return to the Giants after posting a 4.82 ERA and 0.86 WHIP through 9.1 frames in the minors. The 29-year-old righty held his own in the big leagues last season, posting a 2.42 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over 22.1 innings, and he'll likely work in a setup or middle-relief role with San Francisco.

  • Noah Cameron SP | KC

Royals' Noah Cameron: Should avoid IL

Cameron (back) said he could have pitched through the back tightness that resulted in him being scratched from his scheduled start against the Guardians on Tuesday, with manager Matt Quatraro adding that the left-hander should be ready to rejoin the rotation after missing just one start, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Stephen Kolek is picking up a spot start Tuesday for Kansas City in Cameron's absence. Assuming the 26-year-old southpaw bounces back as expected, he should re-enter the Royals' starting rotation this weekend versus Detroit.

  • Henry Davis C | PIT

    Pirates' Henry Davis: Resting Tuesday

Davis isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks

Davis will begin on the bench for a second consecutive game after going just 2-for-15 with a pair of home runs over his last four starts. Joey Bart will start behind the plate and bat eighth.

  • Tristan Peters CF | CHW

White Sox's Tristan Peters: Idle Tuesday

Peters is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the Angels.

Peters has gone 3-for-11 with two RBI, two walks and a stolen base in the last four games to begin May. While he sits Tuesday, Derek Hill will start in center field and is batting seventh.
