The Astros optioned Ullola to Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday.

Ullola gave up three earned runs in just one inning after getting called up Sunday, and he'll now lose his spot in the Astros' bullpen in order to make room for Hayden Wesneski's (elbow) return from the IL. Ullola owns a 4.92 ERA and 1.40 WHIP through 53 innings at Sugar Land and could make a few more appearances for Houston down the stretch as a replacement for a tired arm.

The Nationals optioned Schultz to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.

The move comes after the Nationals' 5-2 loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday, when Schultz gave up three earned runs on four hits while striking out one batter in two-thirds of an inning. The 28-year-old right-hander will return to Rochester, where he has a 2.30 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 15.2 innings.

Gusto did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings.

Gusto breezed through the first two innings before Philadelphia's lineup broke through, scoring six runs over the next three frames. The fifth inning proved especially costly, with Trea Turner launching a solo homer as part of a three-run rally. The six runs marked the most Gusto has allowed in an outing this season. The right-hander exited in line for the loss, but Miami answered with six runs of their own over the next few innings to erase the deficit in the eventual victory. Across eight starts and five relief appearances, Gusto owns a 5.31 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 34:13 K:BB over 39 innings.

Crooks is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

The Cardinals will keep the left-handed-hitting Crooks on the bench for the third time in four games, with all three of his absences coming against left-handed pitchers. Pedro Pages will get the nod behind the plate Wednesday while southpaw Matthew Boyd toes the slab for the Cubs.

Roden will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Royals.

Since Byron Buxton returned from the injured list July 20, Roden's playing time has been trending down, as the 26-year-old started in just two of the Twins' previous seven games. However, with Buxton aggravating a hip injury Tuesday and taking a seat Wednesday, the Twins will have a spot in the lineup available to Roden, who has produced a .488 OPS over 39 plate appearances in the big leagues this season.

Vierling left Wednesday's game against the Orioles due to groin tightness, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Vierling suffered the injury after legging out a triple in the fifth inning. The Tigers will take a closer look at him during the team's off day Thursday, at which point more will be known regarding his status for the weekend series against the A's.

Young is not in the Mets' starting lineup against Atlanta for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Young will be on the bench while Eric Wagaman starts at first base and bats eighth for the second game of Wednesday's twin bill. Young went 1-for-2 with a walk in the first game, which was a 3-2 win for the Mets.

The Royals recalled Rave from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

Rave will be up with the Royals for the second time this season after Vinnie Pasquantino (wrist) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. During his previous stint with the Royals, Rave handled a reserve role in the outfield and did well with his limited opportunities, reaching base on seven of his 21 plate appearances while providing four extra-base knocks.

Ewing is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against Atlanta.

Ewing went 1-for-2 with two steals, a run and an RBI in the Mets' 3-2 win in the first game of the twin bill. He'll hit the bench for the second contest of the day while Tyrone Taylor, Luis Robert and Carson Benge start in the outfield from left to right.

Luzardo did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Marlins, allowing six runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five over 6.1 innings.

Entering Wednesday, Luzardo had not allowed more than one earned run in any of his previous six starts. He cruised through the first four innings, yielding just one hit, before Miami broke through for three runs in the fifth, highlighted by Heriberto Hernandez's two-run homer. Luzardo's outing ended after Otto Lopez delivered an RBI single in the seventh, and two inherited runners later came around to score. His five strikeouts were the fewest he's had in a start since June 5. Despite the rough outing, Luzardo still owns a 3.57 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 157:41 K:BB across 128.2 innings this season. He is scheduled to face Washington in his next start and will seek to bounce back against MLB's most productive lineup.
