  • Quinn Mathews SP | STL

Cardinals' Quinn Mathews: Staying in rotation indefinitely

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Sunday that Mathews will remain in the team's rotation for the foreseeable future, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The wheels had already been in motion for Mathews to get a long look at the big-league level, and he's now also needed out of necessity following the injuries to Andre Pallante (elbow) and Hunter Dobbins (forearm). Mathews is coming off easily the worst of his three major-league starts, having been roughed up for seven runs on 10 hits and one walk with three strikeouts over five innings versus the Phillies. The southpaw is set to make his home debut this weekend against the Pirates.

  • Masyn Winn SS | STL

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Scheduled for MRI, CT scan on thumb

Winn was slated to undergo a CT scan and an MRI on his injured left thumb Sunday night, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Winn injured list thumb while sliding into second base during Tuesday's game in Cincinnati. He attempted to play through discomfort Wednesday, but since then has been held out of the Cardinals' lineup for four straight contests. Winn is hopeful of returning to action Tuesday against the Orioles following a team off day Monday, but more will be known about his status after the imaging results are in. If Winn is forced to miss additional time, the Cardinals will likely continue to have JJ Wetherholt play shortstop while mixing and matching at second base.

  • Corbin Carroll RF | ARI

Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll: Extends on-base streak

Carroll went 2-for-3 with one double, one triple, one RBI and one run scored in Sunday's 5-3 win over Cincinnati.

Carroll delivered the insurance run with a sacrifice fly as part of Arizona's four-run seventh inning. Earlier in the game, he extended an on-base streak to 14 contests, during which he's slashed .340/.452/.720 with five doubles, four triples, two home runs, five RBI, nine walks, two steals and 11 runs scored. Carroll, who experienced a slump coming out of the All-Star break (15-for-76, .197 over 19 games), looks ready to carry the Diamondbacks in their quest for a playoff spot.

  • Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Key contributor in win

Vargas went 2-for-4 with one double, one triple, two RBI and one run scored in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Reds.

Vargas ripped a two-run triple as part of Arizona's four-run seventh inning, knocking in the tying and go-ahead runs. He then came in to score the insurance run on a sacrifice fly. Vargas started a sixth consecutive game at second base, filling in for the injured Ketel Marte (knee), who began baseball activities last week and is expected to begin hitting this week.

  • Kyle Schwarber DH | PHI

Phillies' Kyle Schwarber: Walks off St. Louis

Schwarber went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Cardinals.

Schwarber capped the Phillies' six-run ninth inning and improbable comeback with a two-run, game-winning blast off Riley O'Brien. It was Schwarber's league-leading 39th home run this season and his second in his last two contests. He's gone 15-for-64 (.266) with six homers in his last 16 games, boosting his slash line to .245/.361/.532 with 78 RBI and 76 runs scored across 559 plate appearances this year.

  • Rockies' Tomoyuki Sugano: Hit hard in short outing

Sugano (12-7) took the loss Sunday against the Guardians, allowing five runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out two over three innings.

Sugano was hit hard from the outset, allowing four hits and a walk as Cleveland plated three runs in the first inning. Things didn't improve much in the second, with the Guardians adding two more runs on four hits. Sugano needed 92 pitches to record just nine outs, while his nine hits allowed matched a season high. The right-hander has struggled considerably over his last eight innings, surrendering 16 hits and 12 runs (11 earned) while taking consecutive losses. He owns a 4.96 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 71:28 K:BB across 121.2 innings this season and is slated to face Atlanta on the road Friday.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Picks up steal in win

Riley went 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 4-2 win over Milwaukee in the Little League Classic.

Riley continues to labor near the bottom of the order -- he hasn't hit higher than seventh in the lineup since he batted sixth July 24 in Baltimore. The third baseman has gone 20-for-72 (.278) in August, far better than his .223 average for the season. He's added a .662 OPS, 15 home runs, 60 RBI, 54 runs scored, 20 doubles, one triple and eight stolen bases over 130 contests. His counting stats are nearly identical to a 102-game sample from the 2025 regular season, highlighting his clear and sudden decline in productivity this year.

  • Braves' Ronald Acuna: Logs steal Sunday

Acuna went 1-for-3 with two walks and a stolen base in Sunday's 4-2 win over Milwaukee in the Little League Classic.

Acuna has gone 4-for-32 (.125) with a 3:13 BB:K and two steals on three attempts over his last eight games. This was just his second game without a strikeout in that span, but his timing at the plate appears to be just a bit off right now. For the season, the star outfielder has struggled more than usual, batting .232 with a .745 OPS, 13 homers, 17 steals, 35 RBI, 44 runs scored, 12 doubles and one triple over 79 contests.

  • Braves' Michael Harris: Ends power drought

Harris went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-2 win over Milwaukee in the Little League Classic.

Harris restored a two-run lead for Atlanta with his ninth-inning blast. The outfielder had gone all of August without a homer prior to Sunday, though he hit .307 (23-for-75) with nine doubles and a triple during his power drought. For the season, Harris is batting .294 with an .813 OPS, a career-best 21 homers, 71 RBI, 62 runs scored, 30 doubles, one triple and seven stolen bases over 125 contests.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Grabs four-out save

Iglesias allowed a hit and a walk over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the save in Sunday's 4-2 win over Milwaukee in the Little League Classic.

Iglesias was brought in after the Brewers put the tying run at third base in the eighth inning. He got out of trouble there and then closed it out in the ninth to pick up his 27th save of the campaign. August has been a little challenging for Iglesias, who has allowed six runs over nine innings this month, though he's still converted four of his five save chances. For the season, the veteran closer has a 3.00 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 51:15 K:BB across 48 innings.
