Nationals' Dylan Crews: To be activated Thursday

Crews (oblique) is expected to be activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of Thursday's game against the Phillies, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Crews has been sidelined with a strained oblique since May 20 but has appeared in 12 games at Triple-A Rochester on his rehab assignment, slashing .256/.326/.436 with two home runs, seven RBI, five runs scored, one stolen base and a 1:7 BB:K across 43 plate appearances. Prior to his injury in May, Crews was struggling badly at the plate, batting .196/.266/.354 with seven home runs, 15 RBI, 24 runs scored, 11 stolen bases and an 11:48 BB:K over 173 trips to the dish.

  • Mets' Christian Scott: Tosses bullpen session

Scott threw a bullpen session last week and is "doing well" in his recovery from right elbow surgery, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

It was Scott's first bullpen session since he underwent a hybrid Tommy John and internal brace procedure on his pitching elbow last September. He's not expected to pitch this season and remains on the 60-day injured list.

  • Casey Kelly SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Casey Kelly: Summoned from Triple-A

The Diamondbacks recalled Kelly from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Arizona had optioned Kelly to Triple-A on Saturday after he made a pair of relief appearances following his promotion from the minors, but he'll be eligible to rejoin the big club after starter Anthony DeSclafani (thumb) was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. DeSclafani's next turn through the rotation is scheduled to come up Sunday in Colorado, and Arizona could turn to Kelly to make a start if he's not needed in relief over the team's next four contests. Kelly had operated primarily as a starter at Reno this season, accruing a 5.82 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 42:33 K:BB across 85 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Anthony DeSclafani: Shelved with swollen thumb

The Diamondbacks placed DeSclafani on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to right thumb inflammation, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Arizona recalled right-hander Casey Kelly from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move, and if he's not needed in relief over the next four days, he could end up taking DeSclafani's spot in the rotation the next time it comes up Sunday in Colorado. DeSclafani initially worked in relief after joining the Diamondbacks in mid-June, but he had started in his last three appearances and logged a 5.99 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 7:5 K:BB in 9.2 innings during that stretch.

  • Sam Benschoter RP | CIN

Reds' Sam Benschoter: Optioned to Triple-A

The Reds optioned Benschoter to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Benschoter will head back down to the minors after the Reds activated Hunter Greene (groin) from the 15-day IL on Wednesday. Benschoter has yet to make his MLB debut, as he didn't appear in a game during either of his two short stints on the 26-man roster this season. He owns a 3.78 ERA and 7.7 K/9 across 104 innings at Triple-A.

  • Hunter Greene SP | CIN

Reds' Hunter Greene: Activated ahead of start Wednesday

The Reds activated Greene (groin) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

In a corresponding move, the Reds optioned Sam Benschoter to Triple-A Louisville. Greene hasn't pitched since June 3 due to a strained groin but will return for the finale against the Phillies. He's also dealt with back issues this season, making a total of 11 starts and registering a 2.72 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 73:14 K:BB across 59.2 innings. He went 5.1 innings and threw 79 pitches in his latest rehab start last Friday.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Multi-hit effort in loss

Flores went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Padres.

Flores drove in the Giants' lone run on an RBI single in the first inning. The 34-year-old added another single in the sixth, marking his second multi-hit performance in four games this month. After missing six matchups due to left hamstring tightness, Flores returned to action in Saturday's loss to the Nationals. In three games since his return, he's batting .250 with two RBI across nine plate appearances.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Giants' Willy Adames: Struggles continue Tuesday

Adames went 0-for-4 in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Padres.

Adames went hitless for a fourth consecutive game, marking his longest streak without a hit since early June. The 29-year-old shortstop has struggled in August, slashing .111/.184/.244 with five runs scored, four RBI and two home runs across 49 plate appearances. Overall, he's now slashing .225/.311/.396 with 69 runs scored, 61 RBI, 18 home runs and four stolen bases over 508 plate appearances.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Out of lineup Wednesday

Gurriel is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

It's a routine day off for the 31-year-old left fielder, who has been slumping at the plate of late, slashing .167/.158/.278 with one double, three RBI, one stolen base and a 1:5 BB:K over the last seven days. Jake McCarthy is starting in left field and batting sixth against former teammate Merrill Kelly.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Not expected to need rehab stint

Riley (abdomen) likely won't need a rehab assignment before rejoining Atlanta's lineup, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Manager Brian Snitker wouldn't offer a guess as to when the third baseman might be activated from the IL, but Riley's not expected to be too far behind Ronald Acuna (calf), who should rejoin the lineup before the end of the week. Riley has been sidelined since Aug. 2 after aggravating an abdominal strain that had previously cost him eight games sandwiched around the All-Star break. It's been a disappointing season overall for the 28-year-old, whose .737 OPS would be his lowest mark since he became a full-time player in 2021.
