Beau Brieske RP | DET
Tigers' Beau Brieske: Strong showing as opener
Brieske allowed one walk and struck out five over three scoreless and hitless innings while taking a no-decision Friday in the Tigers' 3-2 loss to the Giants.
Brieske made his third start of the season and matched his longest outing. He threw 31 of 49 pitches for strikes in the impressive turn as an opener, though it doesn't appear he has a path to the rotation at this time. He last functioned primarily as a starter in 2022 and has worked out of the bullpen for 24 of his 27 appearances in 2024. For the season, Brieske has a 4.57 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 45:15 K:BB over 41.1 innings.

Victor Robles RF | SEA
Mariners' Victor Robles: Registers steal Friday
Robles went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 6-0 win over the Mets.
Robles was hitless for the fourth time in six games, but he was able to draw his first walk since July 26 and notch a steal. The outfielder had seven multi-hit efforts over the first 12 games following the All-Star break, but he's cooled off lately and could lose his leadoff spot since he's not having much success getting on base lately. For the season, Robles has a .272/.357/.392 slash line with three home runs, 15 steals, eight RBI and 16 runs scored over 146 plate appearances between the Mariners and the Nationals.

Ryan Bliss 2B | SEA
Mariners' Ryan Bliss: Opens scoring with homer
Bliss went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 6-0 win over the Mets.
Bliss opened the scoring in the second inning, with the long ball being his first major-league hit since June 22. The infielder primarily looks to be a backup to Jorge Polanco at second base, so there's no guarantee Bliss will get steady at-bats even against southpaws. For the season, he's slashing .222/.290/397 with two homers, nine RBI, 10 runs scored and five stolen bases over 71 plate appearances in the majors, in addition to a hearty .846 OPS over 62 contests at Triple-A Tacoma.

Leonardo Rivas 3B | SEA
Mariners' Leo Rivas: Two steals in win
Rivas went 1-for-3 with two RBI, two stolen bases and one run scored in Friday's 6-0 win over the Mets.
Rivas delivered a two-run single in the seventh inning to give the Mariners some breathing room. The rookie infielder hasn't gotten much playing time since getting called up in late July, going 3-for-17 with three RBI, two steals and three runs scored over 10 contests. He's batting .217 over 23 plate appearances this year, though the speedster has 24 steals over 63 games at Triple-A Tacoma. Rivas appears to be a short-side platoon option at shortstop when Dylan Moore shifts over to third base.

Bryce Miller SP | SEA
Mariners' Bryce Miller: Twirls six shutout frames
Miller (9-7) allowed three hits and a walk while striking out six over six scoreless innings to earn the win Friday over the Mets.
This was Miller's third scoreless outing in his last five starts, as well as his fourth quality start in that span. The 25-year-old right-hander has found success lately by limiting the long ball, giving up just two home runs over his last seven outings. For the season, Miller has recorded a 3.46 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 119:31 K:BB over 132.2 innings across 23 starts. He's projected for a road outing in Detroit next week.

Caleb Thielbar RP | CHC
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Continues recent improvement
Thielbar threw two perfect innings while striking out two in Friday's 6-3 win over the Guardians.
Thielbar struggled to start the season with a 8.04 ERA and 5.2 BB/9 in his first 15.2 innings. However, he's turned his season around since June 12 with a 2.81 ERA and 19:5 K:BB over his last 16 innings. He had seemingly lost the ability to control his looping curveball early in the season, but has gotten back to peak form. He could play a key role in high-leverage spots for the Twins as the top southpaw in the bullpen, and he's picked up two of his eight holds on the year in his last three appearances.

Wenceel Perez RF | DET
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Exits with injury
Perez was removed from Friday's game against the Giants due to left abdominal tightness, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Perez drew a walk and struck out before being pulled from the game in the fourth inning. He'll presumably undergo further testing to determine the severity of his injury. Bligh Madris entered as the 24-year-old's replacement, but Parker Meadows could begin to see more work against left-handed pitching if Perez is forced to miss any time.

Hunter Harvey RP | CHC
Royals' Hunter Harvey: Dealing with back tightness
Manager Matt Quatraro said Friday that Harvey has been dealing with back tightness, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Harvey picked up his first save of the season Sunday against the Tigers, but his back issues have prevented him from pitching since then. The Royals skipper didn't give any indication that the 29-year-old reliever will need to spend time on the injured list, but there is also no telling when he'll be available out of the bullpen again.

Alex Cobb SP | DET
Guardians' Alex Cobb: Falls in Cleveland debut
Cobb (0-1) took the loss in the second game of Friday's doubleheader against the Twins, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out one.
Making his first start since last September, Cobb was shaky out of the gate, allowing a run in each of the first two innings before giving up a three-run homer to Matt Wallner in the fifth. The 36-year-old Cobb was solid with San Francisco last year, going. 7-7 with a 3.87 ERA in 28 starts. He's currently slated to make his next start at home versus the Cubs next week.

Nick Sogard 2B | BOS
Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Steals first career base
Sogard went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base in Friday's 8-4 loss to the Astros.
Sogard was active on the basepaths all night and was especially a pest in the fourth inning, as he stole his first career base and then scored on an errant pickoff attempt. The 26-year-old has reached base in each of his first seven major-league games with two multi-hit efforts and seven runs scored.
