  • Royals' Freddy Fermin: Getting rest Sunday

Fermin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Fermin was behind the plate for all nine innings of Saturday's 5-1 win, so he'll be given a breather for the day game Sunday. Salvador Perez will handle catching duties for Kansas City.

  • Royals' Hunter Renfroe: Losing work

Renfroe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Renfroe will hit the bench for the third time in four matchups with a right-handed starting pitcher (Jared Jones). The 32-year-old is slashing a modest .237/.308/.397 over 393 plate appearances on the season and looks like he could have to settle for a part-time role down the stretch.

  • Jose Siri LF | LAA

Rays' Jose Siri: Taking seat Sunday

Siri is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

Siri went 3-for-7 with a double, a triple and three strikeouts while starting the previous two games of the series, and he'll head to the bench for the finale. Jonny DeLuca will shift to center field while Dylan Carlson receives a start in left.

  • Kyle Isbel CF | KC

Royals' Kyle Isbel: Out of Sunday's lineup

Isbel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Isbel will typically hit the bench versus left-handed pitching, but he's on the bench Sunday against Pittsburgh righty Jared Jones. Garrett Hampson is starting in center field for the series finale.

  • MJ Melendez DH | NYM

Royals' MJ Melendez: Not starting Sunday

Melendez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Melendez is sitting Sunday for the second time in three games despite the fact right-hander Jared Jones is starting for Pittsburgh. Tommy Pham will shift to left field while Adam Frazier receives a start in right.

  • Rays' Christopher Morel: Absence continuing Sunday

Morel (Achilles) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Guardians.

It's the second straight game on the bench for Morel after he exited Friday's contest due to right Achilles discomfort. He'll also have Monday's team off day to help in his recovery before Tuesday's series opener versus Boston.

  • Kyle Manzardo 1B | CLE

Guardians' Kyle Manzardo: On bench Sunday

Manzardo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

It's the second straight game on the bench against a right-handed starter (Taj Bradley), as Manzardo has gone 4-for-23 with nine strikeouts over his past nine contests. Jose Ramirez is resting his legs as the designated hitter while Daniel Schneemann starts at third base.

  • Steven Kwan LF | CLE

Guardians' Steven Kwan: Remaining on bench Sunday

Kwan (body fatigue) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

Kwan was scratched from Friday's lineup due to body fatigue and is sitting Sunday for the third consecutive contest. He should be considered day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener versus Minnesota. Angel Martinez is receiving another start in left field.

  • Chris Martin RP | TEX

Red Sox's Chris Martin: Moves past illness

Martin (illness) made relief appearances Wednesday against the Orioles and Thursday against the Yankees, tossing a pair of scoreless innings and striking out three batters while giving up one hit and no walks.

Martin appeared out of the bullpen just once in the first week of September before manager Alex Cora disclosed last Sunday that the reliever was battling an illness. Cora's decision to use Martin on consecutive days would seem to imply that the right-hander is now feeling back to full strength after the bout with the ailment.

  • Joey Loperfido LF | HOU

Blue Jays' Joey Loperfido: On bench Sunday

Loperfido (hip) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports.

The 25-year-old departed Saturday's contest due to left adductor discomfort and will be held out of the starting nine for at least one game. Loperfido will have Monday's team off day to aid in his recovery ahead of Tuesday's series opener at Texas.
