Cole Young SS | SEA
Mariners' Cole Young: Three hits Monday
Young went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Monday's 2-1 win over the Yankees.
Young opened the scoring Monday with a two-out single off Ryan Weathers in the second inning, tallying his fourth RBI through five games this year. Young has carried over his strong spring training performance into the regular season -- he's now 6-for-18 (including 3-for-6 against left-handed pitching) with a home run as he's settled into an everyday role at second base.

Ryan Sloan SP | SEA
Mariners' Ryan Sloan: Opening age-20 season at Double-A
Sloan is opening the season with Double-A Arkansas, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Few prospects generated more rave reviews this spring than Sloan, whose already plus fastball jumped a couple ticks and now sits around 97 mph. Sloan, who could be the game's top pitching prospect in a couple months, only made three starts at High-A last year, so this is a big vote of confidence. Per the report, the initial plan was to assign Sloan to High-A Everett, but the calculus changed after he made such a strong impression this spring. The less volatile weather conditions in Arkansas compared to the Pacific Northwest in April also factored into the decision. What makes the assignment even more notable is that the Mariners have a track record of jumping their best pitching prospects from Double-A to the majors, bypassing the Pacific Coast League. Kade Anderson, the Mariners' other premium pitching prospect, is also opening the year at Double-A.

Kade Anderson SP | SEA
Mariners' Kade Anderson: Gets aggressive assignment
Anderson is opening the season with Double-A Arkansas, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Most of the top college arms get assigned to High-A for their first full season, so while this assignment may not be a big surprise, it is notable. Per the report, the initial plan was to assign Anderson to High-A Everett, but the calculus changed after Anderson made such a strong impression this spring. The less volatile weather conditions in Arkansas compared to the Pacific Northwest in April also factored into the decision. What makes the assignment even more notable is that the Mariners have a track record of jumping their best pitching prospects from Double-A to the majors, bypassing the Pacific Coast League. Ryan Sloan, the Mariners other premium pitching prospect, is also opening the year at Double-A.

Anthony Volpe SS | NYY
Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Taking live BP on Wednesday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday on the "Talkin' Yanks" podcast by Jomboy Media that Volpe (shoulder) will take live batting practice Wednesday.
It's a significant step for Volpe, who is working his way back from October 2025 surgery to repair the labrum in his left shoulder. Boone added that, if all goes well, Volpe should be ready to begin a rehab assignment in two weeks. That should put Volpe on pace to return around May 1, which has been the approximate timeline. Jose Caballero has been handling shortstop for the Yankees while Volpe recuperates.

George Springer RF | TOR
Blue Jays' George Springer: Goes yard again Monday
Springer went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to Colorado.
His blast to left field off Tomoyuki Sugano in the third inning got Toronto on the board. Springer has left the yard in back-to-back games, and while he's only batting .158 (3-for-19) through four games, all three hits have gone for extra bases.

Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR
Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Pops first homer of 2026
Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Rockies.
The infielder took Chase Dollander deep in the eighth inning for his first homer of the season. Gimenez has had a hot start to the year at the plate, going 7-for-14 in four games with a triple, a home run, a stolen base, five RBI and a 2:1 BB:K.

Davis Schneider 2B | TOR
Blue Jays' Davis Schneider: Swats first homer of season
Schneider went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run in Monday's 14-5 loss to the Rockies.
The 27-year-old entered the game in the eighth inning when Toronto emptied its bench in what ended up a 14-5 rout, and Schneider took advantage of the opportunity by depositing a Chase Dollander changeup into the left-field seats. It was Schneider's first hit of the season in four at-bats, as he's mainly been limited to a short-side platoon role so far.

Louie Varland SP | TOR
Blue Jays' Louis Varland: Stuck with loss Monday
Varland (0-1) took the loss Monday as the Blue Jays fell 14-5 to the Rockies, allowing an unearned run on two hits over 1.1 innings of relief. He struck out three without walking a batter.
The right-hander pitched well in a tough spot, as Varland was called in when Cody Ponce (knee) was removed from the game in the third inning, but the unearned run he gave up in the fourth wound up being the one that put Colorado in the lead for good. Varland's seen a heavy workload early, appearing in three of the Jays' first four games and posting a 0.00 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 5:2 K:BB over 3.1 innings with a hold.

Ryan Weiss SP | HOU
Astros' Ryan Weiss: Working out of bullpen
Weiss delivered two hitless innings in relief in Monday's win over the Red Sox, striking out three while walking one.
Weiss failed to crack Houston's rotation out of spring training, though he did make the team as a bullpen option. The right-hander looked sharp Monday, as he set down six straight Red Sox after issuing a leadoff walk in the eighth. It was an encouraging performance for Weiss, after he gave up a home run to Zach Neto in his major league debut Friday. While Weiss could work his way into the high-leverage picture, he's more likely to serve as a swingman or long-relief option this year.

Brice Matthews SS | HOU
Astros' Brice Matthews: Launches first homer
Matthews went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 8-1 win over the Red Sox.
Matthews extended Houston's lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning with a 434-foot blast off Ranger Suarez, his first homer of the year. The right-handed hitting Matthews has been platooning with Joey Loperfido to open the year, starting in three of the Astros' first five contests. He's now 2-for-9 with six strikeouts and no walks.
