  • Aledmys Diaz 1B | HOU

Cardinals' Aledmys Diaz: To play the field Wednesday

Diaz (thumb) is scheduled to play the field in a rehab game Wednesday night, Jim Hayes of FOX Sports Midwest reports.

Diaz continues to make progress from the hairline fracture that landed him on the DL back on Aug. 1. If he can string together a few successful starts in the minors, look for Diaz to return to the Cardinals at some point this week.

  • Miguel Rojas 2B | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Exits with groin strain

Rojas exited Monday's game with a left groin strain and is considered day-to-day.

Rojas earned his second straight start Monday afternoon, and went 1-for-2 at the plate with a double before exiting. He was replaced in the contest by Adeiny Hechavarria, who should see the majority of starts at shortstop until Rojas can return to compete for reps.

  • Royals' Raul Mondesi: Out of lineup Monday

Mondesi is out of the lineup Monday against the Twins, Joel Goldberg of FOX Sports Kansas City reports.

Mondesi went 1-for-9 with two runs scored during the Royals' recently completed three-game series with the Tigers, dropping his season average to .182 for the season. The Royals continue to exercise patience with the young middle infielder, but with the team in the midst of a tight race for a wild-card spot, Mondesi could be at risk of losing playing time down the stretch.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Braves' Dansby Swanson: Not in lineup Monday

Swanson is not in the Braves' lineup Monday against the Nationals

It looks to be nothing more than a scheduled day off for Swanson as the Braves go with Gordon Beckham at shortstop. Beckham will bat eighth in the order against the Nats' Max Scherzer.

  • Gavin Cecchini SS | NYM

Mets' Gavin Cecchini: Getting call up Tuesday

Cecchini will be added to the Mets' 40-man roster and promoted to the majors Tuesday, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.

The Mets will make room for Cecchini by placing Neil Walker on the 60-day disabled list. Cecchini has morphed from a good-field, little-hit shortstop when he was drafted to one who is more known for his offense. He likely won't see much action, but can back up both middle-infield spots after seeing time at second base recently at Triple-A Las Vegas.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Out of the lineup Sunday

Seager is out of the lineup Sunday against the Padres.

Seager rarely sees time off, as the young shortstop has started 124 of 135 games for the Dodgers this season. He'll get a regular maintenance day against lefty Christian Friedrich, however, with manager Dave Roberts electing to avoid the lefty-lefty matchup by awarding Charlie Culberson the start for the afternoon matchup.

  • Luis Sardinas SS | WAS

Padres' Luis Sardinas: Out of the lineup Sunday

Sardinas is out of the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers.

Sardinas had just been starting to see regular starts at shortstop, a situation that will only improve following the release of Alexei Ramirez. It will be Alexi Amarista that gets the call for the Sunday afternoon contest, however.

  • Joey Wendle 2B | ATL

Athletics' Joe Wendle: Out of lineup Sunday

Wendle is out of the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox.

Wendle has started in two of the Athletics' four games since his Aug. 31 call-up, going 1-for-8 with a run scored. It appears manager Bob Melvin will deploy Wendle on the strong side of a platoon at second base with Chad Pinder.

  • Marlins' Dee Gordon: Gets a day off Sunday

Gordon is out of the lineup Sunday against the Indians, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

Gordon has started five straight games for the Marlins, but even with the DH spot available Sunday, he'll take a seat for a regular day off. Derek Dietrich will man the keystone in his stead.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Resting Sunday

Crawford is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cubs, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Crawford didn't receive a day off the entire month of August, so this appears to just be a long overdue maintenance day. Ehire Adrianza will start at shortstop in his place Sunday afternoon.
