Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Diagnosed with broken thumb

Rojas has a broken thumb and will need to be in a cast for a "couple months," according to manager Don Mattingly, Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Adding on rehab time, this injury is certain to keep Rojas out of action through at least the All-Star break. Injuries in the Marlins infield had opened up playing time for Rojas, but in his absence, look for Derek Dietrich to hold down third base for Miami. Expect an official roster move to place Rojas on the disabled list before Tuesday's game against St. Louis.

    Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Likely DL-bound

Rojas (thumb) is likely headed for a stint on the disabled list, Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald reports.

Rojas was lifted in just the second inning of Sunday's game with a badly bruised right thumb, and it looks like he may need a brief stint on the disabled list to allow it to properly heal. "It didn't look like it's going to be two or three days," manager Don Mattingly said. "It looks like something is up." Rojas is set to have X-rays performed sometime Monday, at which point there should be a clearer outlook for him. With Rojas and regular third baseman Martin Prado (hamstring) sidelined, Derek Dietrich should see the majority of the starts at the hot corner.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals' Trea Turner: Takes seat Monday

Turner is out of the lineup Monday against the Orioles, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

Turner has gone hitless in his last three games, so manager Dusty Baker will give the second-year shortstop a night off to clear his mind. Wilmer Difo will assume Turner's leadoff duties and position in the field Monday.

  • Gavin Cecchini SS | NYM

Mets' Gavin Cecchini: Will be called up Monday

Cecchini will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.

This will mark Cecchini's second stint with the big-league club, as the 2012 first-rounder went 2-for-6 with two doubles and two RBI in four games with the Mets last season. The 23-year-old currently owns a .254/.316/.369 triple slash with nine RBI and is 3-for-3 in steal attempts through 30 games with Las Vegas. A corresponding roster move should be announced once the move is official, with the likeliest transactions to be Adam Wilk (who was recalled for Sunday's spot start) getting demoted or Asdrubal Cabrera (thumb) getting placed on the disabled list to clear room.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Homers in marathon extra-innings affair

Baez went 2-for-8 with a solo home run and two RBI in Sunday's 18-inning win against the Yankees.

Baez got off to a slow start, but he's picked it up a bit of late, as three of his four homers on the season have come in May. He's also added 12 RBI in 97 plate appearances as Chicago's super-utility man. The power is certainly real, but unless Baez drops his 26.8 percent strikeout rate, his average isn't likely to help fantasy owners much. His power and positional flexibility are his greatest assets.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Batting ninth Sunday

Baez is starting at second base and batting ninth in Sunday night's game against the Yankees.

Manager Joe Maddon has starting pitcher Jon Lester hitting eighth, so Baez slots in at the bottom of the order, while Ben Zobrist is in right field and batting cleanup. Baez went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored on Saturday.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Lifted early with thumb soreness

Rojas exited Sunday's game against the Mets early with right thumb soreness.

Rojas appeared to injure his thumb while making an awkward cut during a first inning at-bat. He was replaced by Martin Prado at third base to open the second inning. It doesn't sound like the injury is too concerning as the Marlins have officially listed Rojas as day-to-day.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Hopes to return Tuesday

Crawford (groin) will play a minor-league rehab game with Double-A Richmond on Monday with hopes of being activated from the disabled list Tuesday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Crawford had hoped to be activated from the disabled list this weekend, but soggy field conditions made it difficult for him to test his injured groin on the basepaths. If everything goes well during his rehab assignment Monday, the veteran shortstop could rejoin the major-league squad Tuesday in New York.

  • Chris Owings SS | LAD

Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Back in action Sunday

Owings (illness) is playing second base and batting fifth in the lineup during Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Owings was a late scratch from Saturday's lineup due to an undisclosed illness. The versatile 25-year-old is apparently feeling better Sunday as he'll slot back into the heart of the Diamondbacks' batting order.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Phillies' J.P. Crawford: Showing improvement in May

Crawford is hitting .159/.282/.193 with two stolen bases in 88 at-bats for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Crawford had a terrible month of April but has bounced back this month with a .250/.400/.250 slash line in 12 at-bats. The young shortstop is striking out more this season, but he is also showing a better eye at the plate than his first taste of Triple-A last season. His .215 BABIP also suggests he has been a bit unlucky. Crawford will likely turn things around, but it is clear he is not going to be earning an early promotion to the majors this season. The Phillies are likely going to want to see sustained success at Triple-A before considering him for a role in the majors.
