Jose Quintana SP | COL
Mets' Jose Quintana: Pitches well in loss
Quintana (0-2) took the loss against the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out five batters over six innings.
Quintana made his second start of the campaign and went one more inning than in his season debut against the White Sox on July 20, when he allowed two runs over five frames. The left-hander picked up a quality start against the Yankees but got inadequate run support to drop to 0-2. Quintana worked up to 94 pitches Wednesday, so he appears to already be capable of managing a nearly full workload. Despite taking a loss in each of his first two outings, he's been fine with a 3.27 ERA and 1.36 WHIP.

Carlos Rodon SP | NYY
Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Nabs first win as Yankee
Rodon (1-3) earned the win over the Mets on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out four batters over 5.2 innings.
Rodon logged his longest outing of the campaign, notching one more out than he did in his season debut against the Cubs on July 7. The left-hander continued to struggle with his control -- he's walked multiple batters in each of his four starts and has 12 walks across 20.1 innings on the campaign -- but Rodon held the Mets to just one extra-base hit and one run. He appears to still be trying to find his groove, having managed just a 6.7 K/9 after posting a 12.2 K/9 over his previous two campaigns combined. Nonetheless, Wednesday's win was a step in the right direction given that Rodon had dropped each of his first three starts.

Alex Wood RP | ATH
Giants' Alex Wood: Snags win Wednesday
Wood (5-4) picked up the win Wednesday over the Athletics, allowing one hit over three scoreless innings. He did not strike out or walk a batter.
Wood was the fourth pitcher in the game, working as a bulk reliever for the fifth time this season. The southpaw got the job done, quieting the Athletics' bats after Jakob Junis gave up three runs in the fourth inning. Wood has alternated wildly between strong and poor outings over the last couple of months, so it's tough to trust him on a week-by-week basis. He's at a 4.75 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 51:30 K:BB through 60.2 innings this season. Assuming he stays on a regular turn, he's lined up for a difficult home outing versus the Diamondbacks next week.

Lance Lynn SP | STL
White Sox's Lance Lynn: Another poor start
Lynn allowed seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Wednesday.
Lynn has been tagged for 20 runs (17 earned) over 16.2 innings since the All-Star break, continuing a season that's had far more downs than ups. The 36-year-old right-hander was off to a decent start aside from a difficult second inning, but he completely unraveled as the Cubs rallied for six runs -- five charged to Lynn -- in the fifth. Lynn is now at a 6.47 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 144:45 K:BB through 119.2 innings over 21 starts. He remains a potential trade target, but it's unclear if any interest will turn into an offer for a pitcher enduring his worst major-league season. If he remains with the White Sox, Lynn is tentatively scheduled for a road start versus the Rangers next week.

Marcus Stroman SP | NYY
Cubs' Marcus Stroman: Struggles again Wednesday
Stroman allowed seven runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four over 3.1 innings in a no-decision versus the White Sox on Wednesday.
Stroman didn't pitch well, but Lance Lynn was just about equally poor for the Pale Hose. After an excellent first three months of the campaign, Stroman has struggled over his last six starts, allowing 28 runs (24 earned) over 27 innings with just one quality start in that span. The poor stretch has inflated his ERA from 2.28 to 3.51 and his WHIP from 1.02 to 1.20. He's added a 10-7 record and a 109:48 K:BB over 125.2 innings through 22 starts overall. He's tentatively lined up for a challenging two-start week next week, with potential matchups versus Cincinnati and Atlanta on the slate, assuming the Cubs hold onto Stroman through the trade deadline.

Ky Bush P | CHW
White Sox's Ky Bush: Shipped to White Sox
The White Sox acquired Bush along with catcher Edgar Quero from the Angels on Wednesday in exchange for right-handers Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Bush missed the first few months of the season at Double-A Rocket City with an oblique strain and has put up a 5.88 ERA and 1.42 WHIP through 26 innings across six starts since returning. Though his stats don't jump off the page on first glance, he's allowed just three runs over his last three starts (14.2 IP) and has demonstrated an ability to strike batters out at a solid rate. If he continues at his current rate, there's a chance the 23-year-old southpaw makes his MLB debut before the end of next season.

Framber Valdez SP | DET
Astros' Framber Valdez: Short outing in loss
Valdez (8-7) allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out only one over 3.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Rangers.
The six runs were a new season high for Valdez, who has given up at least four runs in four of his last five outings. He also surrendered multiple home runs for the third time this season, including twice in his last three starts. The struggling southpaw is now at a 3.29 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 134:32 K:BB through 126 innings over 20 starts. Valdez is lined up for a home start versus the Guardians next week.

Lucas Giolito SP | SD
Angels' Lucas Giolito: Sent to Halos
The White Sox traded Giolito to the Angels on Wednesday along with right-hander Reynaldo Lopez in exchange for catcher Edgar Quero and left-hander Ky Bush, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
On the heels of a five-inning shutout performance against the Twins this past Sunday, Giolito will join the Angels rotation as the team puts itself firmly in the buyers camp ahead of the trade deadline. The 29-year-old righty holds a 3.79 ERA and 1.22 WHIP through 121 innings this season, though he's seen those numbers trend down over the past month. Giolito was scheduled to pitch Friday for the White Sox, but it's unclear at the moment when he'll make his Angels debut.

Andrew Heaney RP | LAD
Rangers' Andrew Heaney: Collects seventh win
Heaney (7-6) allowed three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three over five innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Astros.
Heaney gave up a three-run home run to Alex Bregman in the first inning before settling down. Over his last six outings, Heaney has given up 21 runs (20 earned) across 29 innings, and that's with a pair of scoreless appearances in the mix. The veteran southpaw is at a 4.62 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 103:43 K:BB through 101.1 innings over 20 starts this season. He's tentatively projected for a favorable home start versus the White Sox next week.

Jake Irvin SP | WAS
Nationals' Jake Irvin: Serves up three home runs
Irvin did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over six innings against Colorado. He struck out seven.
Irvin was victimized by the long ball in the second, third and sixth innings, marking the first time this season in which he's allowed three home runs in a game. However, he still managed to get through six innings for the second straight start while logging his second-highest strikeout total of the season with seven. The right-hander has now surrendered five home runs over his last two starts and will look to keep the ball in the park in his next appearance, which is likely to come next week against the Brewers.
