Montero has joined the Tigers in Minnesota and is expected to enter the rotation in place of the injured Casey Mize (hamstring), Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

It's not known yet which day Montero will start, but he will join the rotation sometime this week while Mize misses some time. The right-hander has made two appearances with the Tigers this season -- one as a starter and one as a bulk reliever -- and has allowed nine runs with an 11:4 K:BB over 8.2 innings.

The Rangers released Cueto on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Cueto exercised the opt-out clause in his minor-league contract and will now be on the lookout for a deal with a new club. The 38-year-old right-hander posted a 5.92 ERA and 30:8 K:BB over 38 innings covering eight starts with Triple-A Round Rock. Cueto last appeared in the majors in 2023 with the Marlins, putting up a 6.02 ERA in 52.1 frames.

Astros manager Joe Espada said on Tuesday in an interview with SportsTalk 790 that Garcia's (elbow) next rehab start will come Thursday at Double-A Corpus Christi, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Garcia threw one inning with the Astros' Florida Complex League affiliate this past Friday in his first rehab appearance. It's not clear what his targeted pitch count is for Thursday's outing, but Garcia will need a handful of rehab starts before becoming an option to join the Astros' rotation. He's making his way back from Tommy John surgery.

The Mets recalled Butto from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

All seven of Butto's 2024 appearances with the Mets to this point have come as a starting pitcher, but he will be used in relief this time around in order to provide some length for an overused bullpen. The right-hander has collected a 3.08 ERA and 38:21 K:BB over 38 innings in the majors this season.

Montero is a likely candidate to start in place of the injured Casey Mize (hamstring) after the latter was scratched from a scheduled start Monday with Triple-A Toledo, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Mize is expected to land on the 15-day injured list with a strained hamstring, and it looks like Montero will be the choice to take his spot. Mize's next turn had been scheduled for Saturday in Cincinnati, although the Tigers could choose to alter the order of their rotation. Montero has made one start and one bulk-relief appearance for Detroit this season, allowing nine runs with an 11:4 K:BB over 8.2 innings.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said in an interview Tuesday that Mize (hamstring) is a likely candidate to be placed on the 15-day injured list, Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio reports.

Mize had to depart Sunday's start against the Angels with a left hamstring issue. While the initial hope was that he was merely dealing with a cramp, Hinch said Tuesday that it's more serious than that. Mize would be held out at least through the All-Star break if he is indeed placed on the IL. Matt Manning and Keider Montero are candidates to take Mize's spot in the Tigers' rotation.

Anderson (elbow) threw three scoreless innings in a rehab start for Single-A Augusta on Sunday, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one.

After two rehab starts in the Florida Complex League in which he posted a 7:0 K:BB over five innings while giving up just one run, Anderson got bumped up to Single-A and delivered another strong performance as he nears the finish line on his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander built up to 46 pitches (29 strikes) on Sunday, and he's expected to make at least two more rehab appearances before becoming an option for Atlanta's rotation after the All-Star break.

Gomber did not factor into the decision in Monday's 8-7 win over Milwaukee, allowing four runs on nine hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out three.

The Colorado southpaw faced only 10 batters over three scoreless innings to open this outing before falling apart in a five-hit, three-run fourth. Gomber has now allowed four or more runs in five consecutive starts, churning out an unpleasant 8.65 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 16:4 K:BB across 26 innings. Overall, the 30-year-old sports a 4.72 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 59:24 K:BB in 87.2 innings. He is tentatively scheduled to make his next start against the Royals at home.

Peterson did not factor into the decision in Monday's 9-7 win versus Washington, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out two.

The New York southpaw scattered seven singles en route to his third quality start of 2024. After issuing eight free passes across 10.1 innings in his previous two outings, Peterson was much sharper in this appearance, walking fewer than two for just the second time this season in six starts. The 28-year-old now sports a 3.51 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 22:14 K:BB in 33.1 overall innings. He is currently slated to make his next start against the Pirates in Pittsburgh this weekend.

Gore did not factor into the decision in Monday's 9-7 loss to the Mets, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight.

The Washington southpaw created an incredible 21 whiffs to collect his eight punchouts, and he left the game with the Nationals ahead 2-0 only to watch Derek Law immediately cough up the lead. This was a bounce-back performance for Gore as he struggled in five June starts with a 5.13 ERA across 26.1 innings. The 25-year-old's season ERA now stands at 3.47 with 107:29 K:BB over 90.2 innings. He is tentatively scheduled to make his next outing against the Cardinals at home this weekend.
