  • Luis Garcia SP | NYY

Astros' Luis Garcia: Goes on IL

The Astros placed Garcia (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Manager Joe Espada said the team got "decent news" from the first opinion on Garcia's right elbow, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. However, the medical staff and Garcia are still awaiting the results of a second opinion before a decision is made on how to proceed. Garcia was pulled off his throwing program last week after experiencing soreness in his surgically repaired elbow.

  • Ryan Gusto SP | MIA

Astros' Ryan Gusto: Recalled from Triple-A

The Astros recalled Gusto from Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Gusto had been optioned earlier this month but has ultimately been included as part of the Opening Day bullpen. He's been a starter for most of his minor-league career and should serve as a multi-inning relief option.

  • Tobias Myers RP | NYM

Brewers' Tobias Myers: Moves to IL

The Brewers placed Myers (oblique) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Per MLB.com, Myers has resumed a throwing program and completed a bullpen session earlier this week since sustaining a left oblique strain in his final Cactus League start March 15. Before he's activated from the IL, Myers will likely need to complete a few more side sessions, face hitters in live batting practice and then embark on a minor-league rehab assignment. The Brewers are hopeful that the right-hander will be ready to make his season debut around mid-April.

  • Ty Madden RP | DET

Tigers' Ty Madden: Officially placed on IL

The Tigers placed Madden (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Madden has been sidelined by a strained rotator cuff in his right shoulder since early March and remains without a return timeline. Once he's healthy, he'll likely be sent to Triple-A Toledo or work as a long reliever out of Detroit's bullpen.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Tigers' Alex Cobb: Placed on IL

The Tigers placed Cobb (hip) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Right hip inflammation has plagued Cobb since the early stages of spring camp, and he didn't resume throwing off a mound until last week. He remains without a clear return timeline and likely won't have one until he's cleared to face live hitters, but he shouldn't be expected back for at least another month.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Placed on 15-day injured list

The Brewers placed Woodruff (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Woodruff's progression from shoulder surgery has gone well lately, as he saw some game action in spring training and could be ready for a rehab assignment in the not-too-distant future. The Brewers haven't provided a timetable for when the right-hander will be ready to return from the IL for his 2025 debut.

  • Red Sox's Lucas Giolito: Goes on 15-day IL

The Red Sox placed Giolito (hamstring) on the 15-day injured list Thursday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Giolito tweaked his hamstring during his first start of the spring back in mid-March. He was never shut down from throwing, and he most recently threw a two-inning simulated game at the Red Sox's spring training complex Sunday, according to MLB.com. The Red Sox appear optimistic that the right-hander won't miss much more than two or three turns through the rotation before making his team debut at some point in April.

  • Red Sox's Kutter Crawford: Goes on IL with knee issue

The Red Sox placed Crawford on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right patellar tendiopathy, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Crawford's knee issue dates back to early last season, but he has resumed throwing off a mound. The right-hander is without a timeline to make his season debut, but he appears likely to miss at least the first month or so.

  • Brayan Bello RP | BOS

Red Sox's Brayan Bello: IL move made official

The Red Sox placed Bello on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right shoulder strain, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Bello has made nice progress following an early-camp shoulder problem, but he needs more time to get ready. The Red Sox are optimistic he could be ready to rejoin the rotation by mid-April.

  • Astros' Lance McCullers: On IL, rehab start on tap

The Astros placed McCullers (forearm) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.

McCullers hadn't pitched in a game since the 2022 World Series before he finally took the hill late in spring training, throwing a scoreless, 13-pitch inning in a March 18 Grapefruit League outing against the Nationals. The right-hander checked out fine physically coming out of that appearance and then made another 33-pitch appearance in a minor-league game at Astros camp earlier this week. He's now scheduled to report to Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday to make his first rehab start, per Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle. Given his long layoff, McCullers will likely be stretched out slowly over the course of several minor-league appearances before the Astros consider bringing him off the IL, possibly as soon as late April.
