Wheeler did not factor into the decision in Friday's 6-2 win over the Nationals, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts over five innings.

Wheeler needed 97 pitches to complete five innings, marking the first time this season he's failed to work beyond the fifth frame in consecutive starts. The 35-year-old still appears to be shaking off some rust after battling shoulder stiffness, with his velocity down slightly across the board. He owns a 2.71 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and a major-league-leading 195 strikeouts across 149.2 innings and lines up for a home rematch with the Nationals next weekend.

The Giants recalled Winn from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

With Ryan Walker set to miss the Giants' next few games while on paternity leave, Winn will return to San Francisco to replenish the big club's bullpen depth. Winn has struggled in Triple-A this year, turning in a 9.31 ERA and 1.88 WHIP through 19.1 innings, so he'll likely be reserved for low-leverage situations while with the Giants.

The Giants reinstated Roupp (elbow) from the injured list ahead of his start Friday against the Rays, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Right elbow inflammation sent Roupp onto the injured list in late July, but he's been cleared to return after allowing two runs and striking out four batters over three innings in a rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento. He'll be welcomed back to the majors by a Rays offense that has struggled to the tune of a .677 OPS since Aug. 1.

Rea did not factor into the decision in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Pirates, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts over five innings.

Rea allowed one run in the fourth inning but was otherwise sharp, generating 13 whiffs on 87 pitches and limiting the Pirates to one extra-base hit. The 35-year-old has surrendered just four runs over three August starts, though he's failed to complete more than five frames in five of six outings since the All-Star break. He'll take a 3.99 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 90:33 K:BB across 121.2 innings into a home matchup with the Brewers next week.

Manager Terry Francona said Friday that the "best case" scenario is Burns (elbow) will be on the injured list for only a couple of weeks, and Burns could start throwing again this week, Charlie Clifford of NBC5 Cincinnati reports.

Burns was placed on the injured list Friday morning, retroactive to Aug. 12, with a flexor strain in his throwing elbow. Francona noted that Burns, who will be under a workload restriction for the rest of the 2025 season, was slated to pitch out of the bullpen Wednesday but reported shoulder stiffness. Further evaluation revealed the strain. Team doctors believe Burns avoided serious injury, though. The rookie flamethrower could resume throwing in the coming days and could return before the calendar flips to September.

The Brewers reinstated Misiorowski (lower leg) from the 15-day injured list, and he'll start Friday's game against the Reds in Cincinnati, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The rookie right-hander landed on the shelf in early August due to a tibia contusion, and he'll rejoin Milwaukee's rotation after a minimum-length stay on the injured list. In his first seven big-league starts, Misiorowski has posted a 2.70 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 47:14 K:BB across 33.1 innings. He could have a limited workload in his first start back since he's returning without a rehab assignment.

Misiorowski (lower leg) traveled with the Brewers to Cincinnati and remains in the mix to start Friday against the Reds, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Misiorowski is poised to pitch Friday -- either with the Brewers or in a minor-league rehab game -- and his presence with the big club gives him a good chance to come off the IL for the series opener. If that's the case, the 24-year-old righty will be skipping a rehab assignment and will likely have some workload limitations in his first start back from a tibia contusion. Milwaukee hasn't yet officially announced its pitching plans for Friday.

The Reds placed Burns on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Aug. 12, due to a flexor strain in his right elbow.

Burns last pitched a week ago in Pittsburgh and allowed one run with 10 strikeouts across six innings. He met with manager Terry Francona earlier this week to discuss the rookie's workload restrictions down the stretch, having thrown 100.1 innings so far across all levels in his first professional season. It's unclear if those limitations are related to the injury, but the 22-year-old will be unavailable for at least the next couple weeks, regardless.

The Reds sent Miley to Double-A Chattanooga on Friday to begin a rehab assignment.

Miley has been rehabbing a flexor strain in his throwing arm since late June, and he's finally been cleared to pitch in games. It's unclear how many minor-league appearances he'll require before being activated, but an August return seems possible. Given the Reds' pitching depth, it's unclear where Miley will slot in once healthy, but Nick Martinez could be bumped back to the bullpen to make room in the rotation. Per Charlie Clifford of NBC 5 Cincinnati, Miley is slated to throw 40 pitches or two innings for Chattanooga on Friday.

Sale (ribcage) will make his second rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Gwinnett, and Atlanta could shift to a six-man rotation once he's activated from the 60-day injured list, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

After designating Carlos Carrasco for assignment Thursday to make room in the rotation for rookie Hurston Waldrep, Atlanta is currently running with a standard five-man rotation. Moving to a six-man setup for the final month-plus of the season would help manage the workloads of Waldrep, Sale and Spencer Strider, especially considering the team has only two off days in September. After his upcoming outing Sunday, Sale is likely to make another start after that to get further stretched out before slotting back into the Atlanta rotation. The veteran southpaw has been on the shelf since June 21 due to a fractured left ribcage.
