Twins' Kyle Gibson: Could get another minor league start

Gibson (shoulder) had his scheduled bullpen session Sunday postponed as the Twins may give him a third minor league rehab outing while trying to figure out where he fits into the rotation, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Gibson has given up one run in 9.1 innings in two minor league starts. He may be ready to return, but the Twins had five starters perform well the past week and don't know who to drop from the rotation. Gibson may get another minor league start while the Twins figure out what roster move to make.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Mariners' Taijuan Walker: Roughed up by Twins

Walker was roughed up for five runs on six hits and two walks in just 4.1 innings in Sunday's start versus the Twins. He struck out three as he fell to 2-5 on the season.

Walker was hit hard Sunday, as he allowed the five runs on four extra-base hits, three of which left the yard. He still threw 66% of his pitches for strikes and the 2.70 ERA he entered Sunday's start with indicates that he should bounce back sooner rather than later. He will try to do so in his next start at the Rangers on Friday.

  • Ricky Nolasco SP | ARI

Twins' Ricky Nolasco: Strikes out seven en route to win

Nolasco struck out seven and walked just one while allowing two runs across six quality innings Sunday versus the Mariners, earning his second win of the season.

Nolasco was rocked in his prior start, but he rebounded with one of his best performances of the season Sunday, reaching seven punchouts for the third time and tossing his first quality start in the last six. The struggling Twins stand to benefit from more starts such as this from the veteran, and he will need to outperform his current 5.28 ERA in order to make that happen. He will face the Rays at home in his next start Friday.

  • Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX

Yankees' Nathan Eovaldi: Wins despite one hit of support

Eovaldi improved to 6-2 with a win over the Rays on Sunday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks, striking out seven.

Eovaldi improved his ratios to a 3.71 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. Meanwhile his opposing number, Jake Odorizzi, allowed just one hit, but it was a two-run homer by Starlin Castro, enough to get Eovaldi the win.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

White Sox's Chris Sale: No-decision despite strong outing Sunday

Sale (9-1) tossed seven innings Sunday, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven, but came away with a no-decision in a 5-4 loss to the Royals.

He was in line to become the majors' first 10-game winner this season before the White Sox's bullpen once again fell apart. It was still Sale's ninth quality start in 11 trips to the mound and fourth in his last five outings. He's also struck out at least six batters in seven straight starts and 10 of 11 this season. He'll take another shot at win No. 10 in Detroit on Saturday.

  • Rays' Jake Odorizzi: Loses despite throwing one-hitter

Odorizzi allowed just one hit Sunday against the Yankees over seven innings, but it was a two-run homer by Starlin Castro that provided the margin of defeat.

Odorizzi retired the first 16 batters he faced before one batter reached on an error. He allowed just the one hit and one walk, while striking out six.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Athletics' Rich Hill: Diagnosed with mild groin strain

Hill suffered a mild groin strain during Sunday's game against the Tigers, CSN California's Joe Stiglich reports.

Hill was removed from the game during the middle of an at-bat in the seventh inning, after he appeared to injure his plant leg while throwing a pitch. Though the injury isn't initially thought to be serious, Oakland's surprising ace may not be ready for his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for Saturday in Houston. Hill still managed to earn his eighth win of the season, giving up two runs on five hits and three walks over 6.1 innings, with nine strikeouts on 104 pitches.

  • Rich Hill SP | KC

Athletics' Rich Hill: Leaves Sunday's start in the seventh inning with apparently left leg injury

Hill exited Sunday's game in the seventh inning after appearing to tweak his left leg on a pitch.

He was in the middle of an at-bat against Jose Iglesias when he appeared to awkwardly land after a pitch. Hill could be seen telling manager Bob Melvin that he wanted to stay in the game, but with Hill at 104 pitches already, Melvin leaned to the side of caution. Hill was very effective in 6.1 innings, allowing only two earned runs while striking out nine Tigers.

  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

Rangers' Martin Perez: Earns third win of season

Perez (3-4) tossed six innings during Sunday's win against the Pirates, in which he allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three.

The 25-year-old lefty allowed less than three runs for the fifth time in six starts during May, and has allowed only 10 runs in 36.1 frames over that span. Perez also registered a quality start for the fourth time in his last five starts, so he's on the right track so far. He will look to keep it going in his next outing against the Mariners on Saturday.

  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Will throw side session Monday

Manager Terry Francona said Carrasco (hamstring) would throw a side session Monday, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.

Carrasco made his first rehab start at Double-A Akron on Saturday and checked out fine, tossing four innings and allowing one run on seven hits and a walk while striking out six. The Tribe will monitor him during Monday's session before determining whether another rehab outing is necessary or if he'll come off the DL later this week to rejoin the big-league rotation.
