Jose Soriano RP | LAA
Angels' Jose Soriano: Crumbles in fourth inning in loss
Soriano (6-6) took the loss Tuesday against the Rangers, giving up five runs on three hits and five walks in four innings. He struck out four.
The fourth inning was a rather disastrous one for Soriano, who allowed five runs on three hits (two doubles) and three walks in that frame alone after firing three hitless innings to begin his outing. The five walks set a season high as well. While Soriano has logged at least six frames and allowed one run or fewer in five of his last eight outings, he's now yielded at least five runs in the other three appearances during that span. With a 4.00 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 95:52 K:BB through 108 innings for the year, he'll be hard to trust this weekend in a difficult assignment at home versus the Diamondbacks.

Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Another sterling performance in win
Eovaldi (6-3) earned the win Tuesday against the Angels, giving up one unearned run on five hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out six.
With the Rangers jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the fifth inning, Eovaldi pounded the zone for 55 strikes among his 72 pitches. The veteran right-hander hasn't reached the 80-pitch mark in any of his last three outings since coming off the injured list, although Texas did have the luxury of affording him some extra rest with Tuesday's contest getting out of hand anyway. Eovaldi will bring a spectacular 1.62 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 86:13 K:BB over 83.1 frames into his next appearance, which is slated for this weekend in a stiff matchup against the division-rival Astros in Houston.

Hunter Brown SP | HOU
Astros' Hunter Brown: Hit hard by Guardians in rare dud
Brown didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Guardians, giving up six runs on six hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out three.
Brown yielded a season-high six runs, and four of his six hits allowed went for extra bases. It was a rare clunker out of the All-Star right-hander, who has now conceded greater than two runs on just three occasions among his 18 starts on the campaign. Brown still boasts a 2.21 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 129:32 K:BB across 110 frames, and he's not scheduled to make another appearance until after the All-Star break.

Shane McClanahan SP | TB
Rays' Shane McClanahan: One inning in first rehab outing
McClanahan (triceps) struck out one batter and issued one walk in a scoreless inning during his first rehab start Tuesday in the rookie-level Florida Complex League.
McClanahan has had a long road to recovery from his Aug. 21, 2023 Tommy John surgery and more recently, a bout with nerve irritation in his triceps. His outing Tuesday marked his first appearance in affiliated ball in just under two years, though he had been able to make three starts in the Grapefruit League this spring before being shut down. Unsurprisingly, McClanahan was lifted after throwing just one inning and 11 pitches, though he was able to make use of his full arsenal in the appearance. The Rays will continue to have McClanahan ramp up slowly over the course of his rehab assignment, which will likely last for nearly the entirety of the 30-day window and should eventually move to Triple-A Durham. He appears to be tracking toward a return from the 60-day injured list in early August.

Jeffrey Springs SP | ATH
Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Sharp in seventh win
Springs (7-6) allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out two over six innings to earn the win over Atlanta on Tuesday.
Springs continued a strong stretch -- over his last five starts, he's given up just nine runs (seven earned). He's not overwhelming hitters with strikeouts, and he continues to be prone to the long ball -- he's allowed five homers in that five-start span, including a solo shot to Eli White in Tuesday's outing. For the season, Springs has a 3.92 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 81:38 K:BB with 17 homers allowed over 103.1 innings across 19 appearances (17 starts). He is tentatively lined up for a home start versus the surging Blue Jays over the weekend.

Brayan Bello SP | BOS
Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Fans 10 in complete game
Bello (5-3) allowed two runs on five hits and a walk over nine innings Tuesday, striking out 10 and earning a win over Colorado.
Bello was outstanding Tuesday, carrying a shutout into the ninth inning before Hunter Goodman belted a two-run shot. It was the first nine-inning complete game of Bello's career, and he completed it with an efficient 76 strikes on 107 total pitches. He forced 15 whiffs, including six with his sweeper, and produced his first double-digit strikeout performance since July 2024. Bello has registered a 2.83 ERA over his last nine starts and will carry a 3.27 ERA and a 65:34 K:BB into his next outing, which is lined up for this weekend at home against the Rays.

Seth Lugo SP | KC
Royals' Seth Lugo: Delivers quality start
Lugo did not factor in the decision during Tuesday's win over Pittsburgh. He allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five over six-plus frames.
Both runs against Lugo came via solo home runs; Oneil Cruz went deep in the fourth inning, and Nick Gonzales popped a home run to begin the seventh, knocking Lugo out of the contest. Lugo threw 47 of 82 pitches for strikes Tuesday and generated just four whiffs. He is 3-0 with a 1.54 ERA over his last seven outings and hasn't given up more than two runs in an outing since May 30. Lugo will enter the All-Star break with a 2.67 ERA and an 88:31 K:BB through 101 innings.

Colton Gordon P | HOU
Astros' Colton Gordon: Cleared of concussion concerns
Gordon has been cleared of a possible concussion after being struck in the head by a comebacker in Monday's loss to the Guardians, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Gordon remained in Monday's game after the incident but was evaluated for a concussion as a precaution, and he passed all tests. The left-hander will be ready to pitch again when needed, although he's currently not scheduled to make another start before the All-Star break.

Zebby Matthews P | MIN
Twins' Zebby Matthews: Throws live batting practice
Matthews (shoulder) threw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
It's the first time Matthews has faced hitters since he was diagnosed in early June with a moderate subscapularis strain in his right shoulder. If he bounces back well from Tuesday's session, Matthews could be cleared for a rehab assignment. Given that he hasn't pitched in more than a month, the 25-year-old is sure to require at least a couple rehab starts before the Twins consider putting him back into their rotation.

Tyler Wells SP | BAL
Orioles' Tyler Wells: Close to facing hitters
Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said Tuesday that Wells (elbow) will throw a live batting practice session soon, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
Wells has been throwing off a mound since early May and is almost ready to face hitters for the first time since undergoing UCL revision and internal brace augmentation surgery on his right elbow June 17, 2024. He is aiming to contribute for the Orioles at some point in the second half.
