  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Rangers' Cole Hamels: Brilliant over six innings Friday

Hamels (2-4) gave up one hit over six scoreless innings in a win over the Astros on Friday, striking out five and walking three.

Hamels went toe-to-toe with Justin Verlander and ended up on the winning side in his first scoreless outing of the season. Hamels now has four quality starts on the year but has yet to make it through the seventh inning. The southpaw has 57 strikeouts in 51.2 innings, which is a welcome feature after a 2017 campaign that saw a career-low 6.4 K/9. His next matchup will be against the White Sox in Chicago.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Yankees' Sonny Gray: Hit hard by former club Friday

Gray (2-3) took the loss against the A's on Friday, giving up five runs on nine hits and three walks over five innings while striking out two.

The right-hander breezed through a 1-2-3 first inning, but Oakland's bats teed off on Gray after that, with two of their nine hits leaving the yard -- the first time in eight starts Gray's given up multiple homers. Despite his success at limiting the long ball, Gray will take a 6.39 ERA and 32:24 K:BB through 38 innings into next Friday's road outing against the Royals.

  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

Twins' Lance Lynn: Continues early season struggles

Lynn didn't factor into the decision on Friday, lasting just 4.2 innings against the Angels and giving up four earned runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking two as the Twins won 5-4.

Lynn was coming off a strong outing against the White Sox but he couldn't keep the momentum going, continuing what has been a rough start to the season for the first-year Twin. Lynn's numbers through his first seven starts in Minnesota are ugly, as he's now got a 7.34 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and 25 walks through 34.1 innings. He can't be considered a trustworthy fantasy option until he shows signs that he's righting the ship and getting back to the form that saw him average a 3.06 ERA over his previous three seasons as a member of the Cardinals.

  • Jason Hammel SP | TEX

Royals' Jason Hammel: Serves up three home runs

Hammel (0-4) did not factor in the decision in Friday's 10-9 win over Cleveland, allowing nine runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- over 3.2 innings. He walked three and recorded one strikeout.

Hammel gave up three home runs including a fourth inning grand slam to Michael Brantley, and needed 89 pitches to record 11 outs. The 35-year-old only avoided the loss as the Royals' offense scored six unanswered runs to close out the game. Hammel has an ugly 6.13 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with a K:BB of 25:16 this season, and is next set to start against the Rays on Wednesday.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Orioles' Kevin Gausman: Avoids trouble in Friday's win

Gausman (3-2) picked up the win over the Rays on Friday, allowing two runs on 11 hits over 7.1 innings while striking out six.

The right-hander threw 86 of 107 pitches for strikes, and while Gausman managed only one 1-2-3 inning on the night, he was mostly able to wiggle out of the jams the Rays' barrage of singles created. He's now delivered quality starts in five of his last six outings, and he'll take a 3.18 ERA into his next trip to the mound Wednesday at home against the Phillies.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matt Boyd: Friday's game postponed

Boyd will start Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mariners after Friday's game was postponed due to rain.

Boyd will have an extra day of rest for his matchup with the Mariners, and carries a 3.00 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 36 innings this season.

  • Marco Gonzales RP | TEX

Mariners' Marco Gonzales: Friday's game postponed

Gonzales will start Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader in Detroit after Friday night's game was postponed due to rain, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Friday's postponement provides an additional day of rest for Gonzales, giving him a full six days since his last start against the Angels last Saturday.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman: Hits DL with shoulder fatigue

Stroman was placed on the disabled list with shoulder fatigue Friday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

It's not a particularly surprising move, despite the lack of recent reports suggesting that Stroman was battling an injury. He dealt with shoulder inflammation in spring training which forced him to delay his first start. Since then, he's been very ineffective, posting a 7.71 ERA through his first seven starts. A 52.6 percent left on base rate explains some of those struggles, and his 4.02 xFIP suggests that he's been rather unlucky, but it's still quite clear that something has been wrong. Stroman's 10.2 percent walk rate is well above his 6.7 percent career mark, and he's been knocked around when he's in the zone, posting a 46.8 percent hard-hit rate, far above his 30.5 career figure. He'll miss at least one start while resting his shoulder. Joe Biagini and Sam Gaviglio are the primary candidates to take his spot in the rotation.

  • Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX

Rays' Nathan Eovaldi: Works two innings in latest rehab start

Eovaldi (elbow) allowed an earned run on two hits over two innings against Fort Myers in his second rehab start for High-A Charlotte on Wednesday. He struck out three.

Eovaldi worked up to 32 pitches overall, 22 of which he threw for strikes, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports. The hard-throwing right-hander's one major blemish was the solo home run he allowed to Fort Myers' Taylor Grzelakowski, but otherwise, it appeared to be another positive step in his recovery from surgery to repair loose bodies in his elbow. Eovaldi has set May 24 as a potential return date, a timeline that would presumably afford him at least two more rehab outings at the minor-league level.

  • Jose Berrios SP | TOR

Twins' Jose Berrios: Gets third loss in four starts

Berrios (3-4) was hit with the loss against the Angels on Thursday, allowing five runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings, striking out two and walking one as the Twins lost 7-4.

Berrios got off to a red-hot start to the season but he's cooled off considerably since then as he's now allowed at least four earned runs in four straight starts, a stretch that has brought his ERA up to 4.50 through 46 innings. He's still got a solid 1.04 WHIP, but his 4:6 K:BB over his last three starts is a worrisome trend that's worth keeping an eye on, especially since his ability to rack up strikeouts has been one of his most appealing fantasy assets in the past.
