  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matthew Boyd: Tuesday's game postponed

Boyd won't make his scheduled start Tuesday versus the White Sox since the game was postponed due to inclement weather.

Boyd will end up receiving a couple extra days of rest and will take the mound Thursday in Chicago. The 28-year-old was previously scheduled to start Sunday as well, but the postponement will cost him the chance for a two-start week.

  • Jose Urquidy RP | PHI

Astros' Jose Urquidy: Called up for debut

Urquidy was called up as expected for his big-league debut Tuesday against the Rockies, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

The 24-year-old will be thrown right into a very difficult first assignment in Denver, though he looks to have the skills to succeed at the big-league level. In 43.2 innings for Triple-A Round Rock, he recorded a strong 2.89 ERA, striking out an impressive 37.0 percent of opposing batters while walking just 5.8 percent. A decent showing at Coors Field could give him the chance to remain in the Astros' rotation, with Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reporting that Urquidy is expected to get at least one more start Sunday against the Angels.

  • Twins' Adalberto Mejia: Returns from long absence

Mejia (calf) was activated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

Mejia hasn't pitched since the end of April due to a calf strain. He posted a very poor 8.74 ERA in 11.1 innings prior to suffering the injury and will have to be significantly better if he's to keep a bullpen job. Ronald Torreyes was outrighted to Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move.

  • Jose Suarez RP | ATH

Angels' Jose Suarez: Listed as Tuesday's starter

The Angels list Suarez as their starting pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.

Suarez was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday with the expectation that he would start later that night before the contest was postponed following the death of teammate Tyler Skaggs. According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, both teams are prepared to play Tuesday's game as scheduled, so Suarez will stay on turn to pitch in the series opener. The Angels will first require a new rotation member Saturday in Houston.

  • Nestor Cortes SP | PHI

Yankees' Nestor Cortes: Returns from minors

The Yankees recalled Cortes from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

Cortes will be able to return to the big leagues just three days after being optioned since his promotion corresponds with first baseman Luke Voit's (abdomen) placement on the 10-day injured list. As was the case in his earlier stints with the Yankees, Cortes is expected to serve as a long man out of the bullpen. All but one of his nine appearances with the big club this season have consisted of multiple innings, with Cortes posting a 5.22 ERA and 31:6 K:BB across 29.1 frames.

  • Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX

Red Sox's Nathan Eovaldi: Expected to be named closer

Eovaldi (elbow) is expected to serve as the Red Sox's closer upon his return from the 60-day injured list, Tom Caron of NESN reports.

Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reported Monday that the team was "strongly considering" using Eovaldi as the closer, but Caron took it a step further, saying Eovaldi will be named the closer and serve as a traditional closer. The hard-throwing righty has been out since undergoing surgery in late April to remove loose bodies from his elbow. He experienced a setback in early June in the form of biceps tendinitis, but the Red Sox are said to be optimistic about Eovaldi's chances of returning shortly after the break. The Boston bullpen has blown a combined 17 saves this season.

Red Sox's Nathan Eovaldi: May transition to closer

Eovaldi (elbow) may be used as a closer upon returning from the 60-day injured list, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Eovaldi has been on the shelf since April 20, though he's making solid progress after undergoing surgery on his right elbow. The Red Sox are hopeful he'll be ready to return shortly after the All-Star break, and given Boston's bullpen struggles, they could use the right-hander in save situations. This would also allow for Eovaldi to return sooner than anticipated, as it would likely take more time to stretch him back out to a starting role.

  • Dylan Bundy SP | NYM

Orioles' Dylan Bundy: Start pushed to Friday

Bundy is scheduled to start Friday's game at Toronto, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Bundy originally lined up to start Monday but had his start pushed back one day, and he will now receive a few additional days of rest before retaking the mound. The 26-year-old has no reported healthy issues, but manager Brandon Hyde wanted to restructure the starting rotation heading into the All-Star break. Bundy is also expected to start the first game out of the break July 12 against Tampa Bay.

  • Jose Suarez RP | ATH

Angels' Jose Suarez: Angels-Rangers postponed Monday

Suarez won't make his scheduled start Monday at Texas since the game was postponed.

Monday's game will not be played after Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs passed away earlier Monday at 27 years old.

  • Jose Suarez RP | ATH

Angels' Jose Suarez: Recalled ahead of start

Suarez was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to start Monday's game at Texas.

Suarez as been with the team over the last few days as a member of the taxi squad, but he officially joins the 25-man roster for Monday's game. The 21-year-old has a 5.57 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB over four major-league starts this season.
