Blackburn's contract was selected by the Athletics to start Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Blackburn began the season at Triple-A Las Vegas and posted a 4.97 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 88.2 innings across 17 appearances (16 starts). He hasn't fared particularly well in limited major-league action across the last two seasons, recording a 13.50 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in 13.1 innings during five appearances (two starts) over that span.

Athletics trainer Nick Paparesta said Bassitt will be placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday and is expected to undergo surgery Aug. 24 to repair the displaced and fractured bones on his right cheek, Shayna Rubin of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Bassitt is expected to need six weeks to make a full recovery.

In response to Bassitt's early exit in the second inning of Tuesday's loss to the White Sox when he was struck in the face by a line drive, the Athletics will call up Paul Blackburn from Triple-A Las Vegas to aid an overtaxed pitching staff, according to Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle. Blackburn will start Wednesday's game in Chicago, while the other four members of the Athletics' rotation will each be pushed back a day in the pitching schedule. Per Steve Berman of The Athletic, Bassitt's right eye remains swollen shut as of Wednesday, but Oakland is hopeful the swelling will subside enough within the next few days for him to undergo surgery next week. Even if the six-week recovery timeline proves accurate, Bassitt will need time to get stretched out following the shutdown, so he's seemingly unlikely to pitch again during the regular season.

Stripling (oblique) has been shut down since he suffered his injury, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.

Stripling has been on the injured list since Aug. 11 due to a left oblique strain, and the Blue Jays plan to keep him shut down for several more days to allow him to fully recover. It's not yet clear when the right-hander will be able to return to game action, and he likely won't have a better recovery timetable until he's able to resume throwing.

The Blue Jays placed Manoah on the bereavement list Wednesday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Per MLB rules, a player must remain on the bereavement list for 3-to-7 days, but it's unclear if Manoah will require more than the minimum amount of time away from the team to tend to the personal matter. If Manoah rejoins Toronto by the start of next week, he would remain on track to make his next start Monday against the White Sox. After posting a 1.53 ERA over a stretch of six consecutive starts, Manoah faltered in Tuesday's 12-6 loss to the Nationals, serving up seven runs (six earned) on six hits and one walk while working a career-low three innings.

Ober won't make his second start of the week Sunday against the Yankees as initially anticipated, with Griffin Jax instead receiving the nod for that game, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

In an effort to limit the workloads of Ober and fellow rookies Jax and Charlie Barnes, the Twins opted to expand their rotation to six men for at least this week. Rather than having Ober -- who tossed a quality start in Tuesday's loss to Cleveland -- make his second start of the week Sunday, manager Rocco Baldelli's decision to add a bullpen day to the mix for Thursday's series opener in New York pushes the 26-year-old right-hander's next turn back to next week. Ober is now expected to make his 15th start of the season Aug. 24 in Boston.

Bassitt was diagnosed with a displaced tripod fractured of his right cheekbone and a fractured jawbone after being struck in the face by a Brian Goodwin line drive during his start in Tuesday's 9-0 loss to the White Sox in the bottom of the second inning, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. He's expected to undergo surgery in 3-to-5 days once the swelling on his face subsides.

While Bassitt will almost certainly head to the injured list Wednesday and likely miss more than the minimum 10 days, he appears to have escaped from the scary incident Tuesday in better shape than the Athletics may have anticipated. All scans Bassitt underwent following his departure from Tuesday's games revealed no structural damage beyond the two facial fractures, and most critically, his vision wasn't affected. Oakland should have a clearer timetable for Bassitt's return once surgery is completed this weekend or early next week.

Bundy allowed two runs on three hits and a pair of walks while striking out three over 4.2 innings against the Tigers on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision.

It was another mediocre performance for Bundy, who has turned in one strong start in his four opportunities since rejoining the rotation. The right-hander has given up eight runs and eight walks in that span. It's been a tough season for Bundy, who has pitched to the tune of a 6.04 ERA and 1.33 WHIP across 22 outings, including 18 starts. The 28-year-old is expected to stick in the rotation while Alex Cobb (wrist) remains on the shelf. Bundy tentatively lines up for a road contest at Baltimore next week.

Eovaldi (10-8) took the loss in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Yankees, giving up two runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings as the Red Sox were downed 2-0. He struck out six.

The right-hander pitched well, firing 57 of 83 pitches for strikes, but Boston's bats couldn't solve rookie Luis Gil. Eovaldi once again couldn't keep the ball in the park, as both Yankees runs scored on solo shots by Luke Voit and Giancarlo Stanton. He's served up six homers over his last four starts -- a stretch during which Eovaldi has a 6.14 ERA despite a 26:5 K:BB through 22 innings.

Manoah (5-2) took the loss Tuesday, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on six hits and a walk over three innings as the Blue Jays fell 12-6 to the Nationals. He struck out two.

The rookie saw his three-game winning streak snapped as he stumbled through his worst outing to date in the majors. Manoah managed only 53 pitches (33 strikes) before getting the hook, but perhaps that's a good thing after he got pushed to 114 pitches last time out. The 23-year-old sports a 3.34 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 73:22 K:BB through his first 12 big-league starts (62 innings).

Anderson (6-8) allowed one earned run on three hits while striking out four across six innings, earning the win over the Rangers on Tuesday.

Anderson allowed a leadoff homer to Andy Ibanez in the third inning. However, that was the only extra-base hit by the Rangers and Anderson made easy work of them through six innings. This was his first win since joining the Mariners. Since July 4, the 31-year-old has a 2.72 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with three wins in seven starts. On the season, he has a 4.10 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 101 strikeouts in 125 innings.
