Manager Joe Maddon said he hopes Cobb (wrist) is able to start Thursday against the White Sox, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Cobb has apparently checked out OK over the past few days after completing a simulated game Friday, and he's now expected to rejoin the starting rotation. The veteran right-hander has been on the shelf since late July and figures to face some workload limitations in his return to the mound, especially since he's set to return without a rehab assignment.

Manager Aaron Boone said that Severino (shoulder) will face live hitters later this week, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.

Severino's Monday bullpen session figures to have gone well given that he's now progressing to facing hitters. Assuming he continues to progress without any setbacks, the right-hander could start a rehab assignment sometime within the next week, which would likely set him up to join the Yankees' bullpen before the end of the regular season.

Manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that the team is hoping German (shoulder) will be able to be activated from the 10-day injured list during the upcoming weekend series against Cleveland, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.

The Yankees are going to wait to see how German responds to his rehab outing Tuesday before officially determining when he'll be activated. The right-hander initially landed on the IL in late July with a right rotator cuff strain, and he later faced a setback in his recovery when soreness returned in mid-August. He's expected to rejoin the New York bullpen once activated.

Perez (illness) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Perez has been on the shelf since testing positive for the virus in late August, and he'll rejoin the Red Sox on Tuesday after making one rehab appearance in the minors. The veteran left-hander hasn't fared much better since being demoted to the bullpen with an 8.64 ERA in his past 10 outings.

Sale (illness) is expected to be activated from the COVID-19 list to start Friday against the Orioles, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Sale tested positive for the virus late last week and was unable to start as scheduled Sunday against the White Sox, but it appears he'll end up missing only one turn through the rotation. Given the brevity of the absence, the veteran left-hander shouldn't face significant workload limitations, assuming he's cleared to start versus Baltimore as expected.

Ryan's X-rays were negative Tuesday after he was struck in the arm by a comebacker, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Ryan struck out five and allowed just one run on three hits in a walk over five innings of work Tuesday against Cleveland before a Myles Straw liner knocked him out of the game in the sixth inning. He marched directly off the field without waiting for team trainers, which could have indicated a more serious injury, but he's been diagnosed with nothing more than a right wrist contusion. Whether or not the injury will force him to the injured list is not yet clear.

Ryan exited his start Tuesday against Cleveland after getting struck in the arm by a comebacker, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Ryan was pitching well in the matinee of Tuesday's twin bill before a Myles Straw liner hit him in the sixth inning. In five innings of work, he allowed just one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five batters. The nature and severity of his injury aren't yet clear, but it's possible it's a bad one, as he marched straight to the dugout without even waiting for a visit from team trainers. Given that there's less than three weeks left in the regular season, anything more than a minor issue could wind up shutting him down for the year.

Odorizzi was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with right foot soreness, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Manager Dusty Baker revealed following Monday's win that Odorizzi couldn't put any weight on his right foot after exiting the game in the second inning. With that in mind, it's not surprising to see him land on the injured list. The full severity of the injury should become more clear in coming days, but the move to the IL will keep the right-hander sidelined until at least the Sept. 24 game against the Athletics. Houston was previously expected to transition back to a six-man rotation with Zack Greinke (undisclosed) returning from the COVID-19 IL on Tuesday, but the club will likely continue using five starters with Odorizzi on the shelf.

Greinke (undisclosed) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list ahead of his start Tuesday against the Rangers, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chroniclee reports.

The Astros announced over the weekend that Greinke would return from the COVID IL to start Tuesday, and now the club has made the move official by placing Jake Odorizzi (foot) on the 10-day injured list. It'll mark the right-hander's first start since Aug. 29, when he allowed six runs on nine hits and two walks across four innings against Texas.

Astros manager Dusty Baker said after Monday's 15-1 win over the Rangers that Odorizzi will need to be "analyzed" after the right-hander exited in the second inning with right foot soreness, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Baker noted that Odorizzi couldn't put any weight on the foot when the training staff visited him on the mound before pulling him from the contest, so the 31-year-old is seemingly far from a safe bet to make his next turn through the rotation Sunday in Arizona. Houston was prepared to expand its rotation to six men with Zack Greinke returning from the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday, so the Astros could simply scale back to five starters if Odorizzi isn't ready to go by the time the weekend arrives.
